Description

IN-BATH WATER FILLER AND OVERFLOW ARRANGEMENT
FIELD OF THE INVENTION [001] The invention relates to an in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement. In particular, this invention relates to an in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement adapted for ease of installation and which protrudes minimally from an inner wall of a bath tub.
BACKGROUND [002] Bath tubs are commonly installed in a large majority of households and other premises, such as hotels etc., and are used for immersing and washing oneself and others, such as children and pets. There are a number of different types of bath tubs, including recessed or alcove baths, which are installed against two or three walls, and freestanding baths that do not connect to any walls for support. Freestanding bath tubs have grown in popularity in recent years due to their modern appearance, innovative design potential and versatility.
[003] All bath tubs require a water filler, which is generally in the form of a spout that is either affixed to a wall adjacent to the bath or floor mounted. There are a number of disadvantages associated with both wall and floor mounted bath fillers, particularly with respect to freestanding baths. In particular, wall mounted bath fillers require the bath to be in reach of the spout, which is generally within 300 mm of the wall, and which significantly limits the placement of the bath within the room and makes cleaning more difficult. Alternatively, floor mounted bath fillers are available; however, they are damage prone, expensive and require exact placement in the slab to reach the bath. Consequently, there is little margin for error during the design and installation stages for floor mounted bath fillers. Another disadvantage common to
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 both wall and floor mounted bath fillers relates to the protrusion of the spout within the bath tub, which can result in injury and inconvenience to bath occupants.
[004] As a result, a number of in-bath water fillers have been developed that are attached to the inner bath wall and also include integrated overflow functionality; however, these are generally large and not aesthetically pleasing. In addition, existing in-bath fillers protrude substantially from the inner bath wall, which represents a risk to bath users and is also inconvenient and potentially uncomfortable when the user occupies the bath tub. Also, existing in-bath fillers are difficult to remove for servicing or replacement as they generally require the underside of the bath tub to be removed for the purpose of accessing the unit, which is a very expensive and damage prone process. Another limitation of such in-bath fillers is that they are inflexible in that they do not incorporate a handset option for the additional use of a shower head.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION [005] Therefore, an object of this invention is to provide for an in-bath filler and overflow arrangement adapted for ease of installation and which protrudes minimally from an inner wall of a bath tub.
[006] It is an object of the invention to overcome, or at least substantially ameliorate, the disadvantages and shortcomings of the prior art.
[007] Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein, by way of illustration and example, certain embodiments of the present invention are disclosed.

DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS [066] The following description will describe several embodiments of the present invention.
[067] The in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement of a preferred embodiment of the invention is shown generally as (10).
[068] In particular, Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement (10) of the present invention, which is made up of an inner unit (20), wherein the inner unit (20) has an inlet opening (21) and an outlet opening (22). The inner unit (20) further includes a first channel (23) and a second channel (24). In addition, the first channel (23) at a proximal end (25) is adapted to be connected to the inlet opening (21) of the inner unit (20), and the first channel (23) at a distal end (26) is adapted for connection to a water supply pipe (not shown). This allows for water to be supplied through the first channel (23) and inlet opening (21) of the inner unit (20) in order to fill a bath tub. Further, the second channel (24) at a proximal end
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 (27) is adapted to be connected to the outlet opening (22) of the inner unit (20), and the second channel (24) at a distal end (28) is adapted to be connected to a water outlet pipe (not shown). This allows for overflow water from a bath tub to pass through the outlet opening (22) of the inner unit (20) and the second channel (24), which prevents overfilling of the bath tub.
[069] As shown in Figure 2, the inner unit (20) is adapted to fit within a wall cavity (41) of a bath tub (40), wherein the wall cavity (41) is formed between an inner wall (42) and an outer wall (43) of the bath tub (40). In particular, the periphery edges (29, 30) of each of the inlet opening (21) and outlet opening (22) of the inner unit (20) are positioned substantially adjacent to a back face (44) of the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40) and also in line with a corresponding inlet opening (46) and a corresponding outlet opening (47) formed through the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40). Thus, the inlet opening (21) of the inner unit (20) and the outlet opening (22) of the inner unit (20) are substantially aligned with the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40) and in line with the corresponding inlet opening (46) and the corresponding outlet opening (47) formed through the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40).
[070] The in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement further includes a connection arrangement that is adapted to affix the inner unit (20) within the wall cavity (41) of the bath tab (40). In particular, the connection arrangement includes a bezel piece (51), wherein the bezel piece (51) includes a water supply opening (52) and an overflow opening (53) that when in place correspond with the inlet opening (21) of the inner unit (20) and the outlet opening (22) of the inner unit (20), respectively.
[071] As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the bezel piece (51) attaches to a front face (45) of the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40) and advantageously protrudes minimally from the front face (45). This is possible due to the unique and compact arrangement of the inner unit (20) discussed above, such as wherein periphery edges (29, 30) of
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 the inner unit are adapted to be positioned substantially adjacent to the back face (44) of the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40), and the inlet opening (21) and outlet opening (22) of the inner unit are substantially aligned with the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40). As a result, the bezel piece (51), which lines up with the openings (not shown) of the inner wall (42) and openings (21,22) of the inner unit (20), is not required to protrude substantially from the inner wall (42) in order to result in an effective flow of water into and out of the bath tub (40) through the water supply opening (52) and overflow opening (53), respectively. In particular, according to an embodiment of the present invention the bezel piece (51) protrudes a maximum of approximately three to ten millimetres from the front face (45) of the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40), more particularly, the bezel piece (51) protrudes approximately four millimetres from the front face (45) of the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40).
[072] The unique arrangement of the invention in which the bezel piece (51) protrudes minimally from the front face (45) of the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40) is ideal in that there are no bulky, sharp or angular protrusions that may cause an inconvenience or harm to bath users. Thus, such an arrangement is particularly suitable for small children and pets. Furthermore, the bezel piece (51) is flexible and versatile in that it can also be made available in a range of designs and finishes to suit the users taste and preferences.
[073] As shown in Figure 1, the bezel piece (51) may be further adapted to include a pair of projections (56, 57), wherein each of the projections extend outwardly from the water supply opening (52) and the overflow opening (53) of the bezel piece (51), respectively. Further, each of the projections (56, 57) is adapted to fit snugly within the inlet opening (21) and the outlet opening (22) of the inner unit (20). Advantageously, this improves the water tight fit of the in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement (10) within the bath tub (40) and means that the bezel piece (51) only protrudes minimally from the front face (45) of the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40).
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 [074] In addition, as shown in Figure 4, the water supply opening (52) of the bezel piece (51) may be further modified to include one or more baffles (54), which are adapted to direct the water supply in a downward direction to prevent splattering of the water in different directions during filling of the bath tub (40). Any other method of directing the water that would be known by those skilled in the art may be used.
[075] In addition to the bezel piece (51), the connection arrangement of the present invention can include any means of affixing the inner unit (20) within the wall cavity (41) as known by those skilled in the field so as to provide a water tight fit. In the embodiment shown, this includes a pair of gaskets (61,62) positioned between the peripheries (29, 30) of each of the first and second openings (21,22) of the inner unit (20) and the back face (44) of the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40) to form a water tight seal between the inner unit (20) and the inner wall (42). As shown in the present embodiment, the gaskets (61,62) are held in place by a plurality of protrusions (31) extending outwardly from the inner unit (20) that are adapted to sit substantially flush against the back face (44) of the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40). Any other means of forming a seal between the inner unit (20) and the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40) that would be known to those skilled in the art are possible.
[076] The connection arrangement further includes a sealing plate (68) and a fixing plate (or fixing piece) (63). In particular, the sealing plate (68) includes corresponding first and second openings (69, 70) and is adapted to be positioned on the front face (45) of the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40). The fixing plate (or fixing piece) (63) also has corresponding first and second openings (64, 65) and is positioned adjacent to the sealing plate (68).
[077] The means for attachment of the sealing plate (68) and the fixing plate (63) to the inner unit (20) may include any suitable means known to those skilled in the field. In the specific embodiment shown, the sealing plate (68) and the fixing plate (63) each include two or more openings (71,66) through which two or more screws (67)
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 may be secured through corresponding openings (48) on the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40) and into corresponding screw openings (32) of the inner unit (20).
[078] Furthermore, the bezel piece (51) is adapted for connection to the fixing plate (63) to form a water tight fit, which may include any number of connection means known by those skilled in the art. In the embodiment shown, the bezel piece (51) is adapted for connection to the fixing plate (63) through a snap fit, which provides for simple installation and also the ability to detach the bezel piece (51) when necessary.
[079] Whilst the embodiment shown is configured such that the water supply opening (52) is positioned above the overflow opening (53), any other configuration is possible that allows for the supply of water into the bath tub (40) combined with the integrated overflow functionality. The only limitation is that the arrangement will require a minimum airgap between the water supply opening (52) and overflow opening (53) of approximately 20 mm and may require the use of a dual check valve or other approved apparatus for backflow prevention.
[080] The in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement (10) may be installed using a method that includes a number of steps. Firstly, the inlet opening (46) and the outlet opening (47) are formed through the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40). This may be achieved by drilling through the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40) to form the openings (not shown), or through any other means known by those skilled in the art.
[081] As mentioned earlier, the connection arrangement adapted to affix the inner unit (20) within the wall may include any suitable means that would be known to those skilled in the art so at to provide a watertight fit. In the present embodiment this is shown to include the sealing plate (68) and the fixing plate (63) having respective openings (71,66) through which screws (67) may pass and be received within
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 corresponding screw openings (31) of the inner unit (20). Thus, when such a connection arrangement is utilised, the method also includes forming a further two or more openings (48) adapted to receive a screw through the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40). This may be achieved by drilling through the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40) to form the openings (48), or through any other means known by those skilled in the art.
[082] Following this, the method involves positioning of the inner unit (20) within the wall cavity (41), such that the inlet opening (21) and the outlet opening (22) of the inner unit (20) substantially line up with the inlet opening (46) and the outlet opening (47) of the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40). The inner unit (20) is then affixed within the wall cavity (41) of the bath tub (40) by way of the connection arrangement and the bezel piece (51) affixed to the inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40) such that the water supply opening (52) and the overflow opening (53) line up with the respective inlet openings (21,46) and outlet openings (22, 47) of the inner unit (20) and inner wall (42) of the bath tub (40).
[083] In order to complete the installation process, a water supply pipe (not shown) at a first end is connected to the distal end (26) of the first channel (23) and a second end of the water supply pipe (not shown) to a water outlet point (not shown). Also, a first end of a water outlet pipe (not shown) at a first end is connected to the distal end (28) of the second channel (24) and at a second end to an overflow waste connection (not shown).
[084] In an alternative preferred embodiment depicted in Figures 5 to 8, the in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement (100) includes a body (110), the body including an inner unit (200) joined with a fixing piece (263). The inner unit (200) includes a first channel (203) and a second channel (204), wherein the first channel (203) includes an inlet opening (201) at a proximal end (205), and the first channel (203) at a distal end (206) is adapted for connection to a water supply pipe (not shown). This
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 allows water to be supplied through the first channel (203) and inlet opening (201) of the inner unit (200) in order to fill a bath tub. The second channel (204) includes an outlet opening (202) at a proximal end (207), and the second channel (204) at a distal end (208) is adapted to be connected to a water outlet pipe, such as an overflow pipe (not shown). This allows for overflow water from a bath tub to pass through the outlet opening (202) of the inner unit (200) and the second channel (204), which prevents overfilling of the bath tub.
[085] As shown in Figure 6a, the inner unit (200) of the body (110) is adapted to fit within a wall cavity (241) of a bath tub (240), wherein the wall cavity (241) is formed between an inner wall (242) and an outer wall (243) of the bath tub (240). In particular, the inlet opening (201) and the outlet opening (202) of the inner unit (200) are substantially aligned with the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240) and in line with at least one corresponding opening formed through the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240). As shown in the embodiment depicted in Figure 6b, two openings (246, 247), which overlap, are formed through the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240); however, any number of openings that achieve the desired outcome of allowing the inner unit to be received within the wall cavity (241) of the bath tub (240) are possible.
[086] The fixing piece (263) includes a water supply opening (264) and an overflow opening (265) that correspond with the inlet opening (201) and the outlet opening (202) of the inner unit (200), respectively, and allow for fluid communication through the first channel (203) and the inlet opening (201), out through the water supply opening (264) and into the bath tub (240). Similarly, overflow water may pass through the overflow opening (265) and the outlet opening (202) into the second channel (204) and to an overflow pipe (not shown). The fixing piece (263) is adapted for connection to the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240) in order to secure the inner unit (200) within the wall cavity (241) of the bath tub (240). This ensures that the inner unit (200) is aligned with the inner wall (242) to allow the supply and receiving of water through the corresponding inlet and outlet openings (201,202), as
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 required. The fixing piece (263) may be connected to the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240) using any connection means that would be known by those skilled in the art. In the embodiment depicted in Figures 5 to 8, the fixing piece (263) includes a plurality of screw openings (266), which allows the fixing piece (263) to be secured to the inner wall (242) by placement of screws (not shown) through each of the screw openings (266) and into corresponding screw openings (248) formed through the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240).
[087] Advantageously, the combined features of the inlet and outlet openings (201, 202) of the inner unit (200) being substantially aligned with the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240) and the use of the fixing piece (263) joined with the inner unit (200) means that the fixing piece (263) protrudes minimally from a front face (245) of the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240). This is advantageous in that there are no bulky, sharp or angular protrusions that may cause an inconvenience or harm to bath users. The fixing piece (263) protrudes a maximum of approximately three to ten millimetres from the front face (245) of the inner wall (242), more preferably approximately four millimetres. Thus, such an arrangement is particularly suitable for small children and pets.
[088] The water supply opening (264) and/or the overflow opening (265) of the fixing piece (263) may also include one or more baffles (268) to direct water. In the embodiment depicted in Figures 5 to 8, the overflow opening (265) includes two baffles (268) for controlling the influx of overflow water from the bath tub (240). The baffles (268) also stop any foreign objects from entering the overflow pipe, including preventing a bath user’s fingers from getting caught. Any number and positioning of baffles that would be known by those skilled in the art may also be used.
[089] The fixing piece (263) and inner unit (200) may be formed such that they are integrally joined to form the body (110), as shown in Figures 5 to 8. This may be achieved through the use of 3D printing of the body (110) as one piece, including the
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 fixing piece (263) and inner unit (200), or any other appropriate method of manufacture that would be known by those skilled in the art. Alternatively, the fixing piece (263) and inner unit (200) could be formed separately and glued or permanently joined together to form the body. In another alternative, the fixing piece and the inner unit could be removably joined, such that they can be separated and joined together when desired.
[090] The joining of the fixing piece (263) and inner unit (200) to form the body (110) allows for water tight fluid communication between the first and second channels (203, 204) of the inner unit (200), the inlet and outlet openings (201,202) of the inner unit (200) and the water supply (264) and overflow openings (265) of the fixing piece (263). It is also advantageous in that it simplifies the installation process whereby the body (110) may be handled such that the inner unit (200) is placed through at least one opening formed through the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240) and the fixing piece (263) may be connected to the inner wall (242), as described above. As mentioned above, and depicted in Figure 6b, a pair of openings (246, 247) are formed by drilling through the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240). As shown, the pair of openings (246, 247) overlap, such that the inner unit (200) of the body (110) may be received through the pair of openings (246, 247). Any number of openings that allows for the inner unit (200) to be received through the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240) are considered to fall within the scope of the present invention. Further, according to the present embodiment, screw openings (248) are formed through the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240) to facilitate attachment of the fixing piece (263) to the inner wall (242).
[091] A further advantage of the present embodiment, wherein the inner unit (200) and the fixing piece (263) are either integrally joined or removably joined, is that the body (110) may be removed, serviced or replaced simply by accessing the front face (245) of the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240). This may be achieved by detaching the fixing piece (263) from the inner wall (242), such as by removing screws (not shown), and guiding the inner unit (200) through the one or more
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 openings (246, 247) for removal of the inner unit (200) from the wall cavity (241) of the bath tub (240). Thus, the present embodiment removes the need for the expensive and damage prone process of removing the underside of the bath tub (240) for the purposes of accessing the wall cavity (241) and the inner unit (200).
[092] In the embodiment shown, the fixing piece (263) also includes one or more depressions (267), which allow for the attachment of further accessory items, as discussed further below. In the embodiment depicted in Figures 5 to 8, the fixing piece (263) includes two depressions (267), each depression (267) is located on either side of the fixing piece (263) and is approximately in line with the midpoint of the water supply opening (264) of the fixing piece (263). Any other positioning and number of depressions that would fulfil the desired function and would be known by those skilled in the art may be used.
[093] According to the preferred alternate embodiment (see Figures 5 to 8), the inbath water filler and overflow arrangement (100) also includes a bezel piece (251), which is adapted to be removably attached to the fixing piece (263). In the embodiment depicted the attachment of the bezel piece (251) to the fixing piece (263) is achieved by a snap fit, which provides for simple installation and also the ability to detach the bezel piece (251) when necessary. Any other means of attaching the bezel piece (251) to the fixing piece (263) that would be known by those skilled in the art may be used. In particular, the bezel piece (251) is shaped to conform to the shape of the fixing piece (263), such that the bezel piece (251) when attached to the fixing piece (263) protrudes minimally from the front face (245) of the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240). The bezel piece (251) includes a water supply opening (252) and an overflow opening (253) that each correspond with the water supply and overflow openings (264, 265) of the fixing piece (263), such that water may be supplied to the bath tub (240) and overflow water removed, as required. The bezel piece (251) provides the benefits of improving the aesthetics of the arrangement and covers the screw attachment on the fixing piece (263). The bezel
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 piece (251) further includes recessed portions (254) that conform to the shape of the depressions (267) on the fixing piece (263).
[094] According to another preferred embodiment, as depicted in Figures 5 to 8, the in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement further includes a sealing plate (270), the purpose of which is to ensure a water tight seal between the fixing piece (263) and the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240). As depicted in Figure 5, the sealing plate (270) includes an opening (271) and is adapted to receive the inner unit therethrough, such that the sealing plate (270) may be positioned on the front face (245) of the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240). In line with the fixing piece (263), the sealing plate (270) includes corresponding screw openings (271) that line up with corresponding screw openings (266) of the fixing piece (263).
[095] According to a preferred embodiment and as shown in Figures 5 to 10, the inbath water filler and overflow arrangement (100) may also include a flow regulator (275) to improve the flow characteristics of water entering the bath tub (240). As shown, the flow regulator (275) is positioned within the first channel (203) of the inner unit (200) at the proximal end (205) and provides fluid communication between the first channel (203) of the inner unit (200), through the inlet opening (201) and into the bath tub (240). The fluid regulator (275) is adapted to fit snugly within the first channel (203) of the inner unit (200) at its proximal end (205). As depicted in Figures 9 and 10, the flow regulator (275) includes a groove (277) and depression (278), which allows for the flow regulator (275) to be “clicked” into place and held in place against a retaining lug (209) within an upper surface of the proximal end (205) of the first channel (203) of the inner unit (200) of the body (110). The flow regulator (275) can be removed for maintenance or cleaning by inserting a screwdriver or other tool into depression (278) to release the flow regulator (275) and allow removal from the body (110). Any other method of attachment of the flow regulator (275) that would be known by the person skilled in the art may be used.
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 [096] In order to control the flow of fluid (water), the flow regulator (275) includes a plurality of channels (276), wherein each channel (276) is angled in a downward direction to direct water flow through the flow regulator (275) and into the bath tub (not shown). As shown in Figures 5, and 7 to 9, the channels (276) are distributed evenly throughout the flow regulator (275) in an organised arrangement, which ensures a steady, continuous flow of fluid exiting the first channel (203) of the inner unit (200) and prevents splattering of the water in different directions during filling of the bath tub (240). Any other arrangement and positioning of the channels (276) that allows for a controlled flow of water may be used.
[097] The in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement (100) may be installed using a method that includes a number of steps. Firstly, as shown in Figure 6b, a pair of openings (246, 247), which overlap to form one larger opening, are formed through the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240). This may be achieved by drilling through the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240) or through any other means known by those skilled in the art. Any number and positioning of openings that allows for the inner unit (200) to pass through the opening are considered to fall within the scope of the present invention.
[098] Following this, the method involves positioning of the inner unit (200) within the wall cavity (241), such that the inlet opening (201) and the outlet opening (202) of the inner unit (200) are aligned with the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240), and then affixing the fixing piece (263) of the body (110) to the inner wall (242) of the bath tub (240).
[099] In order to complete the installation process, a water supply pipe (not shown) at a first end is connected to the distal end (206) of the first channel (203) and a second end of the water supply pipe (not shown) to a water outlet point (not shown). Also, a first end of a water outlet pipe (not shown) is connected to the distal end
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 (208) of the second channel (204) and at a second end to an overflow waste connection (not shown).
[100] The method further includes connecting the bezel piece (251) to the fixing piece (263), such that a water supply opening (252) and an overflow opening (253) of the bezel piece (251) line up with the respective inlet opening (201) and the outlet (202) opening of the inner unit.
[101] In use, the water flow from the in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement may be controlled by a tap, which may be located against a wall or any other suitable location within the room in which the bath tub resides.
[102] As shown in Figures 11 to 15, in a further preferred embodiment, the in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement of the present invention also uniquely provides a shower handpiece.
[103] In the embodiment depicted in Figures 11 to 13, the shower handpiece (380), which includes a shower hose (381) and a shower head (not shown). The shower handpiece (380) is ideal for rinsing or washing adults, children or pets in the bath tub (340). In particular, the shower handpiece (380) is connected to the water supply opening (352) of the bezel piece (351) by way of a handpiece adaptor (382), which may be achieved by any number of connection means known to those skilled in the art.
[104] In the current embodiment, the handpiece adaptor (382) is adapted to be releasably clipped to the water supply opening (352) of the bezel piece (351). This involves the use of a pair of clips (383) positioned on either side of the handpiece adaptor (382), each of the clips (383) including a projection (384) adapted to mate with a pair of corresponding depressions (355) located on either side of the bezel
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 piece (351). In order to connect the handpiece adaptor (382), a user must simultaneously depress the clips (383), place the handpiece adaptor (382) in position against the bezel piece (351) and release the clips (383) so that the projections (384) are inserted within the depressions (355) of the bezel piece (351). The handpiece adaptor (382) may simply be removed by depressing the clips (383) and pulling the handpiece adaptor (382) away from the bezel piece (351).
[105] Advantageously, the handpiece adaptor (382) further includes means for releasably connecting the shower head (not shown) to the handpiece adaptor (382), which is ideal for moments when the shower head is not in use. This may be achieved by any number of connection means known to those skilled in the art. In the embodiment shown in Figure 11, this includes a c-clip (385) adapted to mate with a handle of a shower head (not shown).
[106] In the alternate embodiment depicted in Figures 14 and 15, the shower handpiece (580) includes a shower hose and a shower head (not shown) to allow for rinsing or washing adults, children or pets in the bath tub. In particular, the shower handpiece (580) is connected to the fixing piece (563) of the body (410) by way of a handpiece adaptor (582), which may be achieved by any number of connection means known to those skilled in the art.
[107] In the current embodiment, the handpiece adaptor (582) is adapted to be releasably clipped over the water supply opening (564) of the fixing piece (563) and/or the water supply opening (552) of the bezel piece (551). This involves the use of a pair of clips (583) positioned on either side of the handpiece adaptor (582), each of the clips (583) including a projection (584) adapted to mate with a pair of corresponding depressions (567) located on either side of the fixing piece (563). As shown in Figures 14 and 15, the recessed portions (554) of the bezel piece (563) allow the projections (584) to access the depressions (567) of the fixing piece (563). In order to connect the handpiece adaptor (582), a user must simultaneously
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 depress the clips (583), place the handpiece adaptor (582) in position against the bezel piece (551) and release the clips (583) so that the projections (584) are inserted within the depressions (567) of the fixing piece (563). The handpiece adaptor (582) may simply be removed by depressing the clips (583) and pulling the handpiece adaptor (582) away from the fixing piece (563).
[107] The handpiece adaptor (582) includes a projecting section (585) shaped to fit within the inlet opening (501) of the inner unit (500). A gasket (586), in the form of an O-ring, is adapted to be positioned around the exterior surface (586) of the projecting section (585), which provides a water tight seal between the handpiece adaptor (582) and the inlet opening (501) of the inner unit (500).
[108] As mentioned above, in use, the in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement (10) is adapted to be controlled by a tap (not shown), which may be located at any suitable position within the room.
[109] Advantageously, the streamline design of the body, including the inner unit joined with fixing piece, means that the inner unit is small enough to allow for fitting in baths with radius in either the horizontal and/or vertical plane. Also, the in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement is able to be retro-fit to an existing freestanding bath and is suitable for use with other types of bath tubs, including recessed or alcove baths.
[110] Advantageously, the simple installation process, which utilises commonly available tools, and by which openings are formed on the inner wall of the tub allows for flexibility in the positioning of the in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement within the bath tub. This means that the positioning of the bath tub within a room is not limited based on the required location of the water filler. Additionally, it allows for the placement of a freestanding bath anywhere in a room, and is only limited to the availability of water and waste water pipe under the bath.
2020100512 02 Apr 2020 [111] The unique in-bath water filler and overflow arrangement described above makes available an aesthetically pleasing and safe alternative to existing bath filling arrangements, which is simple and quick to install and can be retrofitted to existing bath tubs. Thus, freestanding baths may be placed anywhere in the bathroom and there is no need for expensive and fragile freestanding bath fillers. As mentioned earlier, the present invention is safe for all bath users as it does not incorporate any protruding spouts or hoses. The integrated overflow arrangement is beneficial in preventing overfilling of the bath tub. Additionally, the feature of the shower handpiece attachment is advantageous in that it allows any shower head to be used with the device.
