HEADLIGHT PROTECTION GRID ARRANGEMENT FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE
Field [0001] The invention relates to a headlight protection grid arrangement for a motor vehicle, preferably for a construction site vehicle.
Background [0002] It is known to provide each of the right and left headlights of a construction site vehicle with a headlight protection grid. The headlight protection grid serves to protect the headlight which is arranged therebehind and the associated headlight cover, for example, from impact from stones. The known headlight protection grids are authorised for road use (homologated) in order to be permitted to be used on public highways. This is achieved in that the protective grid spacings are relatively large which, however, leads to the known headlight protection grids often providing only inadequate headlight protection and, consequently, the headlight which is arranged therebehind becoming damaged in spite of the headlight protection grid.
Object [0003] It is the object of the present invention to substantially overcome or ameliorate one or more of the above disadvantages, or at least provide a useful alternative.
Summary [0004] The invention provides a headlight protection grid arrangement for a motor vehicle, preferably a construction site vehicle, for example, a construction site lorry. The headlight protection grid arrangement comprises a first protection grid for protecting a headlight and/or a headlight cover of the motor vehicle wherein the headlight protection grid arrangement has a second protection grid for additional protection of the headlight and/or the headlight cover. The headlight protection grid arrangement thus constitutes a combination or dual headlight protection grid arrangement. 12289070_1 la 2013267000 13 Jan 2017 [0005] The headlight protection grid arrangement preferably has a securing device which is used for assembly on the motor vehicle and which is advantageously constructed in order to secure 12289070_1 2 2013267000 04 Dec 2013 the first protection grid, preferably releasably and/or pivotably. It is possible for the securing device to further be configured for releasably securing the second protection grid.
[0006] It is possible for the securing device to be constructed in such a manner that, in the assembled state, the first protection grid and the second protection grid are arranged one above the other, preferably in such a manner that the first protection grid constitutes a lower protection grid and the second protection grid constitutes an upper protection grid.
[0007] The securing device is preferably formed by a plurality of clip-fit connections (for example, catch, snap-fitting or clamping connections). The individual clip-fit connections advantageously serve to resiliently and/or releasably clip-fit the first protection grid and/or the second protection grid and thus preferably constitute catch, snap-fitting or clamping elements. The clip-fit connections are preferably plastics clip-fit connections.
[0008] It is possible for at least one clip-fit connection to be arranged at one side of the first protection grid and constructed in order to pivotably retain the first protection grid and/or the second protection grid between a closed state, in which the headlight and/or the headlight cover are protected, and an open state, in which access to the headlight and/or the headlight cover is possible. At least one clip-fit connection is advantageously arranged at the other side of the first protection grid and constructed in order to fix the first protection grid and/or the second protection grid in the closed state.
[0009] The first protection grid and/or the second protection grid preferably comprise(s) a grid-free recess for a headlight cleaning installation, so that the first protection grid and/or the second protection grid is suitable for operation with a headlight cleaning installation.
[00010] It is possible for the grid spacings of the first protection grid to be greater than the grid spacings of the second protection grid and consequently for the second protection grid to have a finer mesh than the first protection grid in an advantageous manner.
[00011] It is further possible for, in the assembled state, the grid bars of the first protection grid and the grid bars of the second protection grid to intersect to produce a fine-mesh protection grid configuration.
AH25(8100725_1):MML 3 2013267000 04 Dec 2013 [00012] It should also be mentioned that the first protection grid is preferably authorized for use on public highways (homologated), whilst the second protection grid is preferably intended only for use on construction sites and not for use on public highways.
[00013] The invention is not limited to a headlight protection grid arrangement but also comprises a motor vehicle, preferably a construction site vehicle, for example, a construction site lorry, having a headlight protection grid arrangement as described herein.
Brief Description of the Drawings [00014] Preferred embodiments of the invention will be described hereinafter, by way of examples only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: [00015] Figure 1 is a perspective view of a headlight protection grid arrangement according to an embodiment of the invention with the second protection grid not yet assembled, [00016] Figure 2 is a perspective view of the headlight protection grid arrangement of Figure 2 with the second protection grid assembled and [00017] Figure 3 is a perspective view of the headlight protection grid arrangement of Figures 1 and 2 with the first protection grid in the open state and the second protection grid removed.
[00018] Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a motor vehicle, in particular a construction site vehicle, and a headlight protection grid arrangement 1 according to an embodiment of the invention. The motor vehicle comprises an upper headlight recess for an upper headlight and a lower headlight recess for a lower headlight. In a conventional manner, the headlights are arranged behind a headlight cover A, for example, a transparent plastics pane or glass pane.
[00019] The headlight protection grid arrangement 1 comprises a first protection grid SI and a second protection grid S2 for protecting the headlights and the headlight cover A. Figure 1 shows the first protection grid SI in a closed state, in which the protection grid SI protects the headlights and the headlight cover A, and the second protection grid S2 in the state not yet assembled.
AH25(8100725_1):MML 4 2013267000 04 Dec 2013 [00020] The headlight protection grid arrangement 1 further comprises a securing device 2, 3 which is used, on the one hand, for assembly on the motor vehicle and, on the other hand, for releasably securing the first protection grid S1 and the second protection grid S2.
[00021] The securing device 2, 3 is formed by a total of four clip-fit connections. Two clip-fit connections 2 are arranged at a first side of the first protection grid S1 and constructed in order to pivotably retain the first protection grid SI between a closed state and an open state. Two clip-fit connections 3 are arranged at the other side of the first protection grid S1 and constructed in order to fix the first protection grid S1 in the closed state.
[00022] The individual clip-fit connections 2, 3 are further constructed to releasably secure the second protection grid S2. That is to say in particular that both the first protection grid SI and the second protection grid S2 can be retained on each clip-fit connection 2, 3.
[00023] The clip-fit connections 2, 3 are constructed to releasably and resiliently clamp the first protection grid S1 and the second protection grid S2 and consequently constitute advantageously releasable catch, clamping or snap-fitting elements.
[00024] The reference numeral 4 designates a headlight cleaning installation for cleaning the headlight cover A.
[00025] Figure 2 is a perspective view of the headlight protection grid arrangement 1 from Figure 1 in the completely assembled state.
[00026] The first protection grid SI is arranged below the second protection grid S2 in such a manner that the grid bars of the first protection grid S1 and the second protection grid S2 intersect in order to form a protection grid configuration which has a finer mesh.
[00027] The protection grid S1 and the protection grid S2 further have a grid-free recess which ensure that, in the assembled state of the first protection grid S1 and the second protection grid S2, the headlight cleaning installation 6 is released in a grid-free manner.
[00028] Figure 3 is a perspective view of the headlight protection grid arrangement 1 of Figures 1 and 2, but with the second protection grid S2 removed and the protection grid S1 in a pivoted, open state in which access to the headlight cover A and the headlights is possible.
AH25(8100725_1):MML 5 2013267000 04 Dec 2013 [00029] The invention is not limited to the preferred embodiments described above. Instead a large number of variants and modifications which also make use of the notion of the invention and therefore fall within the protective scope are possible.
