Abstract

1 A motorsport helmet which has an inner (12) and outer (3) visor, where the inner visor provides a user readable heads up display HUD (6) to the wearer, and the image being projected on to the internal visor (12), the content is controlled by an embedded CPU unit (9) which has an operating system, removable storage (micro SD) and powered by an embedded removable lithium battery (10), with feature rich equipment such as GPS unit (13), front (2) and rear (11) camera, microphone (5), stereo speakers (8), and Bluetooth connectivity which can be controlled via voice activation and push buttons (7) on the exterior of the helmet. The on/off state of the system can be controlled by retracting the internal visor (12) as well as the on off button (7). The front (2) and rear (11) cameras offer HD (720p/1 080p) recording, as well as displaying the rear view in real time acting as a rear view mirror. Both front (2) and rear (11) cameras can record to the on-board storage (9). The CPU unit (9) can communicate via Bluetooth (to a connected Bluetooth dongle attached to, for example, an ODBCII port connected to a vehicle) to display information on the HUD (6) screen displayed as an application showing revs, gear etc via the projected digital screen (4). -R-2 \- --- -- --- -- - --- -- -- --- - -1 Figure 2

Description

1 MOTERSPORT HELMET WITH HEADS UP DISPLAY (HUD) BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION [0001] The invention relates generally to a motorsport or similar safety helmet used for motorsport (motorsport is defined as car, go kart, motorbike, scooter, push bike, and the like) with "Heads up Display" (HUD) that is viewable by the helmet wearer. [0002] The HUD consists of internal screen projected, side buttons (for menu and navigation between applications), GPS, lithium battery, front and rear cameras, and programmable CPU with on-board memory. [0003] The HUD has multiple applications including but not limited to GPS map navigation, speed indication, engine revs when connected via Bluetooth, front and rear safety cameras, camera recording functions, etc [0004] The HUD system will support Android operating system 4.x and above.

Claims (13)

1. A motorsport helmet (reference only).
2. A front facing camera capable of HD recording embedded in the helmet and connected to the CPU controller and software managed.
3. An outer front visor of the helmet.
4. A projected digital screen displaying all applications inside the helmet to either side as required by the wearer.
5. A microphone embedded within the helmet and connected to the CPU controller and software managed (can be used for making calls, verbal instructions eg. change applications, navigate menus, and record voice to HD video).
6. A projection mechanism to display a digital screen on a surface (HUD) embedded within the helmet with ocular manipulation to correctly display in a 4:3 or 16:9 window.
7. Control buttons for hands on operation of the HUD, including menu, On/Off, + and - for manipulation of the applications and screen.
8. Internal stereo speakers capable of providing GPS navigation, phone call, music streaming via Bluetooth, and other output.
9. An embedded CPU system with on-board memory, Bluetooth, etc wired into the helmet to control all functions
10. An embedded removable lithium battery supplying power to all functions
11. A rear facing camera capable of HD recording embedded in the helmet and connected to the CPU controller and software managed. 3
12. An internal visor with tint capable of receiving the projected image from claim 6. The visor can be retracted inside the helmet to turn the HUD off, or pulled down to turn the HUD on (refer Figure 2)
13. An internal GPS unit capable of receiving a signal to integrate with Navigation Maps as controlled by claim 9, and displaying location information to the wearer via claim 4.
