Description
-2 A furniture hinge The present invention relates to a furniture hinge. 5 EP 1 555 372 shows a furniture hinge in which a hinge part is held pivotably on a side part via a support lever and a guide lever. In order to dampen the movement of the hinge part, a linear damper is provided on the side part which is coupled via a chain link with a projection on the guide 10 lever. The coupling is arranged rigidly, so that only limited compensation for tolerances is possible. Moreover, mounting of the components is relatively laborious. DE 101 59 140 shows a furniture hinge, in which a 15 rotational damper can also be provided for damping the movement of the hinge part in the side part. The rotational damper is activated via a pinion with a tooth profiling, so that a certain damping can occur during the closing of the hinge part. However, such rotational 20 dampers have only a limited damping force and the damping path is relatively short. It is therefore the object of embodiments of the present invention to provide a furniture hinge which has favorable 25 damping properties and is easy to mount. The invention provides a furniture hinge, comprising a mounting plate on which a side part is arranged, and a hinge part which is held pivotably on the side part via a 30 support lever and a guide lever, whereby in order to dampen the movement of the hinge part relative to the side part, a linear damper is provided which comprises a N:\Melbourne\Caees\Patent\0000-80999\P8O1O9.AU\Specie\P80109.AU GH SPECI PIRST.doc 10/03/09 - 3 housing and a piston rod which are coupled with a rotary part for damping purposes, which rotary part is driven rotatably about an axis by the support lever or the guide lever, the rotary part having teeth at least in sections. 5 Advantageously a standard damper can thus be used which is configured with respect to damping force as well as damping path for loading on a furniture hinge, with only very few components being required for the damping 10 element. The mechanical coupling of the damper with the hinge part or with components connected to the same can be arranged in a simple way and offer the possibility of a certain compensation for tolerances. Further,as the rotary part comprises teeth at least in sections. As a result, 15 the rotary part can be coupled easily with a further toothed component. The rotary part can be coupled via a holding element of the piston rod or the housing, which holding elements are spaced from the rotational axis, so that a rotational movement is transferred into a linear 20 movement in the damper. In order to enable producing the furniture hinge with only a few components, a projection is preferably arranged integrally on the support lever or the guide lever which 25 drives the rotary part and comprises teeth for this purpose for example. The rotary part can be arranged as a wheel which is rotatably held about an axis. Preferably, the rotary part comprises a pin parallel to 30 the rotational axis which is coupled with an eye to the piston rod, so that the fixing of the damper can be made with a few mounting steps. The damper is preferably rotatably held on the side opposite of the rotary part, so N:\Melbourne\Caeo\Patet\80000-80999\P80109.AU\SpeciS\PB0109.AU GH SPEC1 PIRST.doc 10/03/09 -4 that in the case of a linear movement of the piston rod relative to the housing a transverse load is prevented and forces are absorbed only in the longitudinal direction of the piston rod. 5 The invention is now explained in closer detail with an embodiment by reference to the enclosed drawings, wherein: Fig. 1 shows a sectional side view of a furniture hinge in 10 accordance with the invention in an opened position; Fig. 2 shows a view of the furniture hinge of Fig. 1 in a partly opened position, and 15 Fig. 3 shows a view of the furniture hinge of Fig. 1 in a closed position. A furniture hinge 1 made of metal or plastic comprises a mounting plate 2 which can be fixed to a furniture 20 carcass. A side part 3 is adjustably mounted on a mounting plate 2, with a pot-like hinge part 4 being held in a pivotable manner on the side part 3 via a support lever 5 and a guide lever 6. The hinge part can be fixed to a recess of a furniture door. The support lever 5 is 25 connected via an axis 7 with the hinge part 4 and via an axis 8 with the side part 3. The guide lever 6 is connected via an axis 9 with the hinge part 4 and via an axis 10 with the side part 3. 30 A projection 11 with teeth 12 is integrally arranged on the guide lever 6. Teeth 12 combs with a toothing 13 on a wheel 14 which is arranged as a rotary part and is held on a side part 3 to rotate about an axis 15. Teeth 13 are N:\Melboune\Cases.Patent\B0000-80999\PO0109.AU\Specia\P80109.AU GH SPECI PIRST.doc 10/03/09 -5 provided in sections on wheel 14 because only a limited section of the wheel 14 will come into engagement with the teeth 12. A pin 16 is provided on wheel 14 spaced from the axis 15, in which an eye of a piston rod 17 of a damper is 5 mounted. The piston rod 17 engages in a housing 18 of the damper which is arranged as a linear damper, e.g. a fluid damper or a gas-pressure damper. The housing 18 of the damper is held on the side part 3 to rotate about an axis 19 on the side averted from wheel 14. Transverse forces 10 during a movement of the piston rod 17 relative to housing 18 are thus avoided. The side part 3 is adjustably held on the mounting plate 2 via an adjusting screw 20 in order to enable a subsequent 15 setting of the position of the hinge part 4, especially in order to align a furniture door. Fig. 1 shows the furniture hinge in an opened position, in which the hinge part 4 and furniture door connected with 20 the same is opened. When the hinge part 4 is pivoted to the position shown in Fig. 2, which lies approximately at an angle a of 450 before the closed position, the rotary part 14 has not yet pivoted as a result of the linkage of hinge part 4 via the support lever 5 and the guide lever 6 25 and the choice of the respective axes 7, 8, 9 and 10, so that no damping occurs in the opening area which could obstruct handling. Damping of the movement of the hinge part 4 will only occur in a region before the closing of the hinge part 4. 30 Fig. 3 shows the hinge part 4 in the closed position. The guide lever 6 was pivoted about the axis 10, so that teeth 12 on projection 11 have turned the wheel 14 about the Nr\Melbourne\Case\Patent\90000-80999\P 0109.AU\SpecC\P80109.AU CH SPECI PIRST.doc 10/03/09 - 6 axis 15, through which the piston rod 17 was pushed into the housing 18 and a respective damping has occurred thereby. The hinge part 4 can be pre-tensioned via a spring to the closed position. During the renewed opening 5 of the hinge part 4, the piston rod 17 is moved again from the inserted position to a pulled-out position through forced guidance by the teeth 12 and 13. The damper can have a damping effect on one side, so that the opening process can be performed more easily than the closing 10 process. In the claims which follow and in the preceding description of the invention, except where the context requires otherwise due to express language or necessary 15 implication, the word "comprise" or variations such as "comprises" or "comprising" is used in an inclusive sense, i.e. to specify the presence of the stated features but not to preclude the presence or addition of further features in various embodiments of the invention. 20 It is to be understood that, if any prior art publication is referred to herein, such reference does not constitute an admission that the publication forms a part of the common general knowledge in the art, in Australia or any 25 other country.
