Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR A STANDARD PATENT
ORIGINAL
TO BE COMPLETED BY APPLICANT Name of Applicant: Actual Inventors: Address for Service: Invention Title: ALDI GMBH CO. KG Peter Ernst and Robert Ochsenschliger CALLINAN LAWRIE, 711 High Street, Kew, Victoria 3101, Australia STORAGE CONTAINER FOR VARIOUS PRODUCTS WHICH CAN BE REMOVED BY SELECTION The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us:- 07/07/03,eh 13436.cov,1 -2- Storage container for various products which can be removed by selection Description The invention concerns a storage container for various products which can be removed by selection, e.g. consumer products like cigarette boxes, cigarette cartons, cigarillos, packaged confectionery, etc, in particular a cigarette or cigarette carton dispenser, with a housing to accommodate a product hopper, and with a viewing case at the top of the housing, wherein for their removal the products are pressed against a stop by, for example, the force of a spring.
Such a storage container is described in AT 112 948. Special ejecting organs are provided therein to move the product, that can be removed after the selection, from the storage, container.
In addition a dispenser for cigarette boxes or cigarette cartons is known from the utility model DE 296 19 520 Ul. In this case holding containers for cigarette boxes or cigarette cartons are provided, as well as an endless conveyor means that can be driven in a rotating manner. The conveyor means ensure the supply of the holding container.
The state-of-the-art is not satisfactory in all respects. Thus the ejecting organs according to AT 112 948 are complicated to operate and are inclined to malfunctioning. As far as DE 296 19 520 Ul is concerned, for their removal the individual cigarette boxes have to be brought to a certain position with the aid of the conveying means. This is also elaborate and may lead to disruptions. The case is similar for storage containers known in the practice, which are not satisfactory either with regard their functioning. The aesthetics no longer satisfies the current demands either.
The technical problem on which the invention is based is the further development of a storage container of this type in such a manner that a simple and a well-functioning operation is achieved with a attractive appearance.
According to the invention there is provided a storage container for various products which can be removed by selection, e.g. consumer products like cigarette cartons, cigarette boxes 07107/03,eh 13436.spc,2 etc., in particular a cigarette(carton) dispenser, with a housing to accommodate a product hopper, and with a viewing case at the top of the housing, wherein for their removal the products are pressed against a stop by, for example, the force of a spring, wherein the viewing case closes off the housing at the top and has the stop.
As a rule, the product hopper has a plurality of holding shafts for the products arranged superimposed therein. At the same time each holding shaft can have a base that carries the product and presses it in the working position against the stop in the viewing case. In most cases this is ensured by at least one spring.
In the home position the base can be locked in the respective holding shaft. In this conjunction "home position" means the state wherein the respective holding shaft is placed out of service or is being stocked with new or additional products. As stated, in this home position the base is locked in the respective holding shaft, so that the spring engaging the base does not exert any effect and consequently the base is not pressed against the stop.
For this purpose the base may have guide pins on both sides that engage the guide slots in the holding shafts. In this conjunction it has proved itself to have the guide slots extend essentially vertically, while at the bottom of the respective guide slot an angled horizontal slot is provided. The horizontal slot accommodates the guide pins on both sides when the base is in its home position.
The viewing case has usually two wing flaps that are advantageously transparent. Basically one flap or wing flap can be actualised also. The stop may join two lateral walls of the viewing case with one another. In most cases it is constructed as a reversed trapezoidal roof.
The wing flaps are hinged on the lateral walls, while the wing flaps, the stop and the lateral walls are transparent to allow to view the housing and the products situated therein.
As a result of this, a storage container or product container is made available that evidences itself with regard to its simplicity and well-functioning operation. Essentially two aspects contribute to this purpose. First the base, acted upon by the spring, ensures that in the working position of the base the products situated on it are automatically pressed against 07107/03,eh 13436.spc,3 -4the stop, from where they can be removed in the vicinity of the viewing case. Therefore special conveying means are not required. In addition, the described storage container can be stocked in a simple manner. For this purpose the base merely needs to be brought to the home position, in which it is locked in the respective holding shaft. Therefore the spring does not exert any effect in this home position and consequently the base is not pressed against the stop. Thus the products can be introduced problem-free in the home position.
To transfer the base from the home position into the working position, all that is required is to move the guide pins, that in the home position are in the horizontal slot, in the horizontal direction so that the guide pins will move to the region of the vertically extending guide slots. In that case the spring can exert its effect to the bottom of the base and press the base with the product situated on it against the stop in the viewing case.
In the following the invention is explained in detail based on a drawing illustrating only one embodiment; they show in: Figs. 1 to 4 various views of the storage container according to the invention, and Fig. 5 the storage container without housing.
The figures illustrate a storage container for various products 1, 2 which can be removed by selection. In the case of these products 1, 2 one deals with consumer products, in the embodiment with cigarette cartons 1 and otherwise with cigarette packets or cigarette boxes 2. Of course, completely different (mostly parallelepiped shaped) items or consumer products can also be stored and arranged for the removal in the storage containers illustrated.
The illustrated storage container is usually placed in the vicinity of the check-out in a shopping market. Other arrangements are, of course, basically also feasible and are embraced by the concept of the invention. Within the scope of the embodiment in the case of the storage container one deals with an automatic cigarette carton dispenser. The storage container is fitted with a housing 3.
07/07/03,ch 13436.spc,4 Within the scope of Figs. 1 to 5 the housing 3 serves the purpose of accommodating a product hopper 4. In addition, a viewing case 5, that is joined to the upper side of the housing 3 or closes the housing at the top, can also be recognised.
The products 1, 2 or the cigarette cartons 1 and possibly the cigarette boxes 2 are pressed by the spring force against a stop 6 in the viewing case 5 to their removal position. This can be particularly well recognised from Fig. 4. Naturally variations, whereby the cigarette cartons 1 or the products 1 are biased not by spring force, but for example, hydraulically or with other regulating devices against the stop 6 are also embraced by the concept of the invention.
One can further recognise from Fig. 4, that the stop 6 has the shape of a reversed trapezoidal roof, whereby the stop 6 joins two lateral walls 7 of the viewing case 5. In addition, the viewing case 5 has two wing flaps 8 which are hinged on the above mentioned lateral walls 7. The wing flaps 8, the stop 6 and the lateral walls 7 have an altogether transparent construction. Within the scope of the embodiment one deals with transparent profiled plastic sheets.
The stop 6 constructed as a reversed trapezoidal roof bridges over the entire distance between the two lateral walls 7, so that the cigarette cartons 1 pressed upward from the product hopper 4 by spring force can come to rest against a stop 6 at each position of their exit from the associated holding shaft 9.
Each holding shaft 9 is formed by two lateral shaft walls 10, each of them having guide stops 11 (see Fig. 3) at the rear. In addition, each holding shaft 9 has a base 12, that carries the respective product or the cigarette carton 1 or a plurality of cigarette cartons 1, as a matter of fact superimposed upon one another.
Base 12 ensures that in the working position of the base 12 the above mentioned products 1 are pressed against the stop 6 in the viewing case 5. In Fig. 5 this working position of the base 12 is assumed by all bases which do not bear the reference numeral 12. In contrast to this the base with the reference numeral 12 is in its home position in the holding shaft 9, where it is locked in the holding shaft 9.
07/07/03,ch I 3436.spc,5 For this purpose the base 12 has guide pins 13 on one or both sides that engage the guide slots 14 in the lateral walls 10 of the shafts. These guide slots 14 extend, just like the holding shafts 9 and consequently the product hopper 4 in toto, essentially vertically. At the bottom of the relevant guide slot 14 there is an angled horizontal slot 15 that in the home position of the base 12 accommodates the guide pins 13 on both sides, as this is illustrated with reference to a single base in Fig. 5, bearing the reference number 12.
In this home position the vertically acting spring (not illustrated) of the base 12 cannot press it upwards in the direction of the stop 6. Consequently, in the home position the base 12 can be easily stocked with the products 1 or cigarette cartons 1. To move from the home position to the working position it suffices to push, so to say, the base 12 into the holding shaft 9. By virtue of this the guide pins 13 leave the horizontal slots 15 and enter into the vertical guide slots 14, so that the spring force will become effective and it presses the base 12 with the products 1 situated on it vertically against the stop 6.
Finally, front and rear doors 16 on the housing 3 ensure that the storage container or cigarette carton dispenser can be stocked without any problem and can be closed after stocking to prevent unauthorised access. The top cover 17 of the body 3 has the same purpose, ensuring together with a slot 18 that the product hopper 4 together with the holding shafts 9 and the products 1 protrudes at the top into the viewing case 5 (see Figs. 1, 2).
Where the terms "comprise", "comprises", "comprised" or "comprising" are used in this specification, they are to be interpreted as specifying the presence of the stated features, integers, steps or components referred to, but not to preclude the presence or addition of one or more other feature, integer, step, component or group thereof.
