KG Peter Ernst and Robert Ochsenschliger CALLINAN LAWRIE, 711 High Street, Kew, Victoria 3101, Australia STORAGE CONTAINER FOR VARIOUS PRODUCTS WHICH CAN BE REMOVED BY SELECTION The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us:- 07/07/03,ehl 3437.cov.1 Storage container for various products which can be removed by selection Description The invention concerns a storage container for various products which can be removed by selection, e.g. consumer products like cigarette boxes, cigarette cartons, cigarillos, packaged confectionery, etc, in particular a cigarette dispenser, with a housing and with a viewing case at the top of the housing.
A storage container of the type described in the introduction is dealt with, for example, in AT 112 948. Ejecting organs, that are complicated to operate and are not always free of malfunctioning, are provided therein to remove the products.
In addition, a comparable storage container is known from the US printed patent specification 4 141 610, the operation of which is also elaborate. After all, to open the associated sliding doors first a switch has to take care of the unlocking.
The technical problem on which the invention is based is the further development of a storage container of this type in such a manner that a simple operation is achieved with an attractive appearance.
According to the present invention there is provided a storage container for various products which can be removed by selection, e.g. consumer products like cigarette cartons, cigarette boxes etc., in particular a cigarette dispenser, with a housing and with a viewing case at the top of the housing, wherein the viewing case is constructed with a roll-top cover that is preferably executed as a semicylinder. Consequently, the viewing case has a rolltop cover that closes the body at the top. This roll-top cover may be constructed as a lying semicylinder, but may have other spatial shapes.
Thus the viewing case encloses the body at the top and in this conjunction is constructed, as a rule, as a lying semicylinder with a roll-top cover. At the same time two roll-tops may be provided, each of which cover a quarter of a cylinder of the semicylindrical viewing case. The roll-tops meet edge to edge at the highest point of the viewing case, so that by 07/07/03,eh I 3437.spc,2 -3actuating one roll-top half of the semicylinder will be exposed to enable access to the.
products situated in the interior of the storage container.
In the case of the roll-tops one deals with regular wire rod lattice roll-tops with lateral guide plates. At the same time the guide plates join single wire rods with one another which together form the wire rod lattice roll-top.
The viewing case may have in its interior a staircase profile as well as holding containers for the presentation of the products. Basically completely different ways of presentation are, of course, also conceivable, whereby the products are arranged in the viewing case in a regular manner but stationarily not restricted.
Motors may be provided to drive the roll-tops. Naturally, the invention also allows a manual operation of the roll-tops. Finally, it has proved itself to guide the lateral guide plates in guide rails that, in turn, are components of the lateral walls of the body.
The result is a storage container, that evidences itself with regard to its simple operation.
This is basically ensured by the viewing case executed mostly as a lying semicylinder with a roll-top cover. Consequently, the roll-top cover allows a free view of the products situated in the viewing case on the one hand and ensures a quick access to it on the other.
All that is required for this is to pull down at least one of the two roll-tops meeting edge to edge at the highest point. By virtue of this the semicylindrical viewing case is partially opened, so that products situated behind or underneath it can be removed without any problem.
To carry this out rapidly and simply, motors may be provided. The motors are situated below the viewing case in the body. In addition, when the viewing case is exposed the body accommodates the downward lowered roll-tops. These enclose, in a ring-like manner, the viewing case, while the roll-tops overlap at least partially in the body. Therefore there is no need to worry about collisions. At the same time the lowered arrangement of the rolltops prevents during the exposure of the viewing case them becoming damaged by any means. This contributes altogether to a reliable functioning. In addition, the semicylindrical shape of the viewing case ensures a attractive appearance. These are the essential advantages.
07/07/03,eh 13437.spc,3 -4- In the following the invention is explained in detail based on a drawing illustrating only one embodiment; they show in: Fig. 1 the storage container according to the invention, Fig. 2 an exploded illustration of the parts of the storage container according to Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a section through Fig. 1 with the individual parts according to Figs. 1 and 2.
The figures illustrate a storage container for various products 1, 2 which can be removed by selection. In the case of these products 1, 2 one deals with consumer products, in the embodiment on the one hand with cigarette cartons 1 and on the other with cigarette packets or cigarette boxes 2. Of course, completely different (mostly parallelepiped shaped) items or consumer products can also be stored and arranged for the removal in the storage containers illustrated.
The illustrated storage containers are usually placed in the vicinity of the check-out in a shopping market, as this is illustrated in Fig. 1. Other arrangements are, of course, basically also feasible and are embraced by the concept of the invention. Within the scope of the embodiment the storage container illustrated serves as a cigarette carrier or cigarette presentation carrier. It is fitted with a housing 3.
Based on the illustration one can recognise that a viewing case 5 is provided on the top of the body 3, more precisely it closes the body 3 at the top.
Within the scope of the embodiment this viewing case 5 assumes the shape of a lying semicylinder with a roll-top cover 19. In this conjunction the roll-top cover 19 is made up from two single roll-tops 20, 21, each of which cover a quarter of a cylinder of the semicylindrical viewing case 5 and meet edge to edge at the highest point of the viewing case 5, as this can be recognised from Figs. 1 and 3. To cover each quarter cylinder two roll-tops 20 and two roll-tops 21 are actualised within the scope of the illustration according to Fig. 1, so that altogether four roll-tops 20, 21 are provided.
07/07/03,eh 13437.spc,4 In the case of the roll-tops 20, 21 one deals with so called wire rod lattice roll-tops with lateral guide plates 22. These guide plates 22 join the single wire rods 23 with one another, which together form the wire rod lattice roll-top. By doing so the lateral guide plates 22 Sensure a guiding of the wire rod lattice roll-top or of the roll-tops 20, 21, as a matter of fact in lateral guide rails 24. The guide rails 24 are components of the lateral walls of the body 3 (see Fig. 2).
The viewing case 5 is fitted, inter alia, with a staircase profile 25 as well as with holding containers 26, 27 and 28. In the case of the holding container 26 one deals with a tub for pouches and filters, whereas the holding container 27 in combination with the holding container 28 forms a holding tub with a plurality of single sections to accommodate, for example, cigarette packets 2 and/or cigarette cartons 1 (see Fig. 2).
Holes 29 in the lateral walls of the body 3 ensure that motors 30 to drive the roll-tops 21 can be controlled from a check-out, designated by 31. Consequently, an operator P in the check-out is in the position to open and close the roll-tops 20,21 in accordance with the selection by using the motors One can recognise that the roll-tops 20, 21 enclose the viewing case 5 in the form of a ring or form a ring around the viewing case 5. By doing so, the two roll-tops 20, 21 overlap at least partially in the body 3 below the viewing case 5. The roll-tops 20, 21 can be lowered with the aid of the motors 30 or also manually and allow access to the products 1, 2 provided in the viewing case 5. In this case the. overlap of the roll-tops 21, 21 increases compared to that illustrated in Fig. 3.

Claims (9)

1. A storage container for various products which can be removed by selection, e.g. consumer products like cigarette cartons, cigarette boxes etc., in particular a cigarette dispenser, with a housing and with a viewing case at the top of the housing, wherein the viewing case is constructed with a roll-top cover that is preferably executed as a semicylinder.
2. A storage container according to claim 1, wherein two roll-tops are provided, each of which cover a quarter of a cylinder of the semicylindrical viewing case.
3. A storage container according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the roll-tops are constructed as wire rod lattice roll-tops with lateral guide plates.
4. A storage container according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the roll- tops enclose in a ring-like manner the viewing case.
A storage container according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the roll- tops overlap at least partially in the body.
6. A storage container according to any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the roll- tops meet edge to edge at the highest point of the viewing case.
7. A storage container according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the viewing case has a staircase profile as well as holding containers for the presentation of the products.
8. A storage container according to any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein motors are provided to drive the roll-tops.
