Abstract

The method involves processing detected traffic data. The data are entered in a grid that is divided along the road w.r.t. the location (x). To determine a weighting function (g(x)), a weighting is defined for each location on the grid based on the traffic data. The weighting of a traffic datum is defined as being highest at the measuring location and decreasing as the distance form the measuring location increases. The traffic function along the grid is calculated for those locations for which no traffic data are available by equating the data with the nearest-lying data available and then multiplying with the weighting function. The average road sped or journey time is determined from the integral or sum of the values of the traffic function divided by the integral or sum of the values of the weighting function. An Independent claim is also included for a center for detecting the traffic situation.
