Abstract
A continuous slab casting process, comprising dynamic coolant distribution control in the secondary cooling zone in accordance with heat flux distribution in the primary cooling zone, is new. A continuous slab casting process comprises (a) determining the energy or temperature distribution over the mould width at a certain location in the mould to obtain a first actual value for a regulating circuit; (b) estimating the deviation of the actual value from a desired value of energy or temperature distribution symmetrical to the strand center axis; (c) regulating secondary cooling over the width and length of the strand withdrawal roller guide (4.2) in dependence on the deviation of the actual value from the desired value by individual control of the supplied coolant quantities; and (d) determining physical properties of the slab (14.1), divergence of the slab path (7.1) and/or the slab geometry in the secondary cooling zone as a second actual value for input into the regulating circuit. An Independent claim is also included for continuous slab casting equipment for carrying out the above process.
