Abstract
The chassis (1) is elastically coupled both to the wheel axle (7) and the body of a rail vehicle. A pneumatic ram (3) is coupled to the chassis. It holds the magnets (2) of the rail brake, when they are in the rest position, at a distance above the rail top surface (6) greater than that for which the chassis tilts or moves in the vertical direction. The magnets can be lowered into the working position merely by gravity and by venting the compressed air from the ram. The brake can have dogs (4) working with mating components (5) on the chassis.
