EMI1.1
The invention relates to an internal combustion engine of the known type, which is especially intended for motor vehicles, in which the stroke and, at the same time, the compression chamber can be adjusted as a function thereof, in order to achieve a constant output at all speeds. The invention consists in a special arrangement of the gearbox, which connects the piston with the machine shaft and enables the machine to be controlled from the driver's seat in such a way that the otherwise usual
Speed change gear can be omitted. The peculiar arrangement of the transmission also enables simple and effective pressure lubrication as a further feature of the invention, without the need for a special pump.
The invention is illustrated in an exemplary embodiment in the drawing; Fig. 1 is a front view of a single cylinder internal combustion engine, partly in section, and Fig. 2 is a side view. Fig. 3 shows a front view of a four-cylinder engine, partly in section, and Fig. 4 is a side view. 5 shows the arrangement of the oil pump in a longitudinal section, FIG. 6 shows the control device from the driver's seat, and FIGS. 7-10 show the hats of the
Piston and the change in the compression chamber.
According to FIGS. 1 and 2, the machine has a cylinder 1 with the usual water cooling jacket and the piston: 2 with a hollow piston rod 3. During the up and down movement, the piston 2 is guided through a second rod 4 which protrudes into the hollow piston rod and thus forms a straight guide for the piston. The rod 4- is attached to the bottom of the crankcase 5.
At the lower end of the piston rod J, a cross head 8 is attached to which two connecting rods 7 engage. The upper ends of these connecting rods are connected to sliding pegs 9, which can slide in links b of the swing arms 6. These arms are arranged on the cylinder head and rotatably mounted there with the arm end 15 (FIGS. 1 and 2). The swing arms 6 are curved, the center of the arc being in the longitudinal axis of the cylinder. At a certain distance from the points at which the arms 6 are articulated on the cylinder, the ends of a second connecting rod system grip these arms. H an, the lower ends of which act on the crankshaft 10, which, as can be seen from Fig. 1, is arranged on one side of the machine.
The flywheel can either sit directly on the shaft or be set in rotation by a gear mechanism.
The sliding piece 9 is adjusted and adjusted from one position to the other along the arm 6 by means of a screw 18 which is screwed into a lateral projection of the sliding piece 9. One end of the screw 18 carries a Sehneekenrad 17, which works together with a second screw 16 (Fig. 2). The rotation of the screw 16 causes the screw M to rotate, which in turn, as a result of its connection with the slider 9, brings about its adjustment along the link slot in the arm 6 and thus brings the slider into any position on the arm.
The operation of the machine can be seen from Fig. 1, u. zw. The stroke of the piston 2 will change from a minimum / 'to a maximum depending on the position of the slide 9 on the arm 6 between points a and b. The positions a-a 'show the positions of the connecting rods 7 when the piston makes the shortest stroke, and the positions b-b' show the positions when it makes the longest stroke.
Of course, the stroke of the connecting rods 11 always remains the same because the connecting rod heads M are immovably articulated on the arm 6 and the connecting rod heads 13 on the crankshaft

chamber and the smallest stroke, FIGS. 9 and 10 show the setting for the largest compression chamber and the largest stroke. From these figures it can also be seen that in the position of the connecting rods 7 according to de: l FIGS. 7 and 8, i.e. for the smallest stroke of the piston, the power output at the crankshaft 10 is a function of the distance between point a, from the center of vibration o of the swing arm 6 is multiplied by the piston stroke. If the connecting rod 7 with its head from a

Performance balanced.
Conversely, in the position of the connecting rods 7 according to FIGS. 7 and 8, the speed of the machine is increased with a simultaneous reduction in the piston stroke; in both cases, the result is a constant power on the crankshaft. The constant power obtained in this way applies at any speed, since its size is determined by the position of the connecting rods 7.
3 and 4 show a four-cylinder engine in which the only difference compared to the arrangement according to FIGS. 1 and 2 is that the arms 6, instead of being hinged at their ends to the cylinder head, have a point of articulation between the Ends of the arms, the connecting rods 11 being connected to the shorter free end of the arm 6. Each connecting rod is common to a pair of cylinders and acts on a crank arm of the machine shaft, the arms of which are offset from one another by 180.
6 shows the adjusting elements for setting the connecting rods 7 and fixing them at any point on the arm 6. A pedal 20 is provided on a toothed segment 21 which engages with the gear 22. A disk 2 arranged at the gear 22; ; is for example by means of a chain 24

is attached. The hub of the gear 25 has a very screw thread which cooperates with the screw 16; this engages in the worm wheel 17 (FIG. 1) which is provided at the end of the screw 18. As a result of this arrangement, when the pedal 20 is depressed, the screw 18 is rotated and the connecting rod 7 is thereby adjusted along the arm 6.
To make a very rapid rotation of the

two-start thread provided, as can be seen from FIG.
5 shows the oil lubrication pump provided in each piston according to the invention, the good effect of which is required because of the very long stroke. The guide rod 4 has a bore 28, the end of which is closed by a small valve 29; the hollow piston rod 3 also has a

and leads it to the cylinder as well as the cross head.
