Device operated by means of a gas flame for regulating the hardness of vacuum tubes, in particular
X-ray tubes.
The invention relates to a device for the hardness control of vacuum tubes, in particular X-ray tubes, which, as is known per se, by a gas flame in
Activity is set. The known mode of operation of such hardness regulating devices consists in that the gas flame continuously, namely during the time in which the
The control device is out of action, is kept in a reduced state and, when the control device is to take effect, is enlarged by increasing the gas supply in such a way that it produces the desired heating effect on the hardness control device.
This mode of operation is initially associated with the disadvantage that the flame is easily extinguished by a draft and then has to be re-ignited so that the control device can do its job. Furthermore, since the size of the flame changes with the existing gas pressure, all other things being equal, it is necessary to adjust the gas supply to the flame which is installed in the gas line
Hahnes to change the fluctuations in gas pressure accordingly.
If such hardness control devices operated by a gas flame are used in devices for automatic hardness control of vacuum tubes with the aid of relays, for example according to patent no. 292822, then there is also the fact that when the vacuum tube is put out of operation, i.e. current or. becomes voltage-free, the automatic control, as long as the relay is not switched off, comes into action and remains so that, even if the gas flame is still present, it. is enlarged and brought to permanent effect, so the vacuum tube is permanently influenced in its hardness.
These deficiencies are remedied by the invention. In the new device, the burner itself, consisting of a conductor of electricity (metal), or a conductive body attached to the burner or near its opening, is conductively connected to earth or to one of that of the hardness control device (such as the metal tube that forms it) or another of the Burner opening near conductor brought so different potential that between the conductor and him, as soon as and as long as the
Vacuum tube is in operation, i.e. under voltage, electrical discharges take place continuously.
, As soon as gas flows out of the burner, it is ignited by the discharges.
As a result, on the one hand, there is no need for a constant flame; you can rather close the gas tap completely every time the flame has served its purpose. On the other hand, if the previous mode of operation with a permanently maintained flame is used, one is relieved of the inconvenience of lighting, since the discharges provide the lighting constantly and automatically.
Is d: e vacuum level except
Operation, i.e. de-energized, so hear when the operating voltage of the vacuum tube itself generates the potential difference causing the discharges, the discharges also occur and the gas flame is no longer ignited in the case of the device for automatic hardness control discussed above, i.e. no longer occurs, when the

direction is set so that the gas tap is completely closed each time it takes effect.
An embodiment of the new device is shown schematically in the drawing. The hardness control device a of the vacuum tube, here an X-ray tube, b, faces in a manner known per se the burner e which forms the end of the gas line d containing the cock c. The burner itself, which is made of metal, is here, which is advantageous in some cases in order to avoid excessively violent spark transfer between a and e, connected to earth g via a resistor of high value, j, for example a graphite resistor.
As shown in the figure (Fig. 2) on the part of the vacuum tube that contains the hardness control device a, the metal hardness control device can be provided with an electrically conductive extension that extends into the interior of the vacuum tube by, for example , according to FIG. 2, with a metal probe h projecting into the interior of the vacuum tube through the wire i. The metal probe At and thus the conductor a, as confirmed by the experiment, even without being connected to one of the electrodes of the vacuum tube, assume a sufficiently high potential to generate electrical discharges between them and the burner, which the escaping gas ignite.
PATENT CLAIMS: r. Device operated by a gas flame to control the hardness of vacuum tubes, in particular X-ray tubes, characterized by an electrical discharge path attached near the burner opening, which ignites the discharged gas when the tube is in operation.
