as shown above, which has considerably weakened teeth. From a strength perspective, nothing is gained by making the teeth of one wheel of the pair equally thick over their entire width, but only weakening the gear mechanism.
According to the present invention, all of the abovementioned inconveniences, both of the normal helically cut gears and the abnormal ones, are avoided in that the lines of intersection of the tooth flanks with the pitch cone are in the form of involute circles, the center of which coincides with the apex of the pitch cone. This achieves the essential advantage that both the teeth and the tooth gaps become equally strong or wide across their entire width (calculated along the partial cone), i.e. H. At the same time as achieving a tooth of equal thickness across the entire width, it is possible to produce a whole tooth gap in a single operation using a single tool.
In addition, with one and the same generating wheel, i.e. b. With the same tool and in the same way, different rows of gears can be produced with the same module, all of which are capable of interlinking

and the same thickness across their entire width and at the same time the gaps between the teeth are also equally wide. However, it should be noted here; that when a tooth is cut by a series of cylindrical surfaces concentric about the axis of the generating wheel, the cross-section ill usually increases with the distance of the cross-section from the center of the part surface. Of course, this relationship also applies to the tooth gap.
It can now easily be seen that if a bevel gear is produced by means of such a generating wheel according to the Abwälzverfahjen, both the teeth and the tooth gaps of the generated gear are equally thick or wide along their entire width. This is illustrated in FIG. 2, where the involute circles 3 of the generating wheel are shown rolled up onto the pitch cone of the wheel 2. The lines 5 rolled up in this way represent, like the involute circles 3 of the generating wheel, the lines of intersection of the tooth flanks with the partial cone. It is clear that the distance between two successive lines 5 (calculated along the partial cone) is always the same and the same is the corresponding distance between the involute 3.
It follows immediately from this that the teeth and the tooth gaps must also be of the same thickness or width over the entire width of the generated wheel 2. In other words, the teeth of the wheel 2 are given a shape corresponding to the teeth of the generating wheel; H. they are equally thick and equally long, but the tooth profile is not straight, but curved. If, on the other hand, a tooth is cut from mutually parallel planes which are perpendicular to a generating line of the partial cone, then, as with the generating wheel, the cross-section of the tooth increases with the distance of the cut from the tip of the partial cone.
The practical implementation of this rolling process can be carried out by means of a cutting tool8, the profile of which corresponds to the tooth profile of the generating wheel, i.e. H. has the shape of a truncated wedge with straight sides, which tool also has a cutting edge.

Performs working together with the gear to be generated.
A bevel gear produced in this way is illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 5, FIG. 4 showing a partial section along the line C-D of FIG. As can be seen, the tooth is the same length,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>

whole width after equally strong tooth. The tooth profile is curved and given the shape shown in FIG.
Such a gear can also be manufactured by rolling in such a way that the red-hot wheel workpiece is made to roll on the generating wheel under pressure.
It is of course also possible to design the teeth of one wheel of a pair with a straight profile, as shown in FIG. With regard to one wheel of the pair, this offers the simplification of manufacture, since the wedge-shaped tool only needs to carry out the previously indicated cutting movement, but not a rolling movement in relation to the wheel workpiece.
The second wheel of the pair, on the other hand, must by rolling on the first-mentioned wheel, i.e. H. either by rolling or by a wedge-shaped cutting tool with the same profile as the teeth of the latter wheel, which tool must perform both a cutting movement and a rolling movement. But it is clear that the meshing is theoretical

d. H. both receive a curved tooth profile or one wheel is designed with a straight tooth profile and generates the second wheel of the pair.
