Procedure. for the representation of vat dyes.
EMI1.1
be converted into valuable vat dyes, and that such dyes can also be produced by reacting benzoquinone or its derivatives with aniline or its homologues substituted in the para position by halogen.
Examples:
1. 12 parts of benzoquinone dianilide are dissolved in 100 parts of hot nitrobenzene and
EMI1.2
some time and after cooling, the precipitated dye is filtered off. It is soluble in hot nitrobenzene, insoluble in alcohol and glacial acetic acid and forms a brown crystalline powder. When heated with alkaline hydrosulfite, it goes into solution with a pale yellow color. In this solution, wool takes on a light yellow color, which becomes deep yellow in the air and is then distinguished by its authenticity.
II. L Teit dichlorobenzoquinone dianUid (from chioranil) is dissolved in ten times the amount of nitrobenzene and 1 part of bromine, diluted with twice the amount of nitrobenzene, is slowly added to the solution heated to 170 to 2000. After the reaction is complete and has cooled, the dye can be filtered off; it forms yellow-brown crystals and is more sparingly soluble in nitrobenzene than the dye described above and, in the same way as this dye, gives intensely yellow dyeings of a somewhat greener shade on wool.
III. 12-7 parts of p-chloroaniline are dissolved with 10-8 parts of benzoquinone in 50 parts of alcohol and boiled until the new compound which is deposited no longer increases. The reaction has ended after about an hour. The precipitated product is filtered off and washed out with hot alcohol; it dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with violet color, in alkaline hydrosulfite with light yellow color: it forms brown-red crystals. On wool it provides real yellow colorations.
A similar dye is produced in the same way with p-bromoaniline.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Process for the preparation of vat dyes, characterized in that the quinone dianilides obtainable from benzoquinone or its derivatives are treated with halogens.
