<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The invention relates to an injection molding device in which at least one further, independently displaceable platen is arranged as a central plate between a fixed and a displaceable platen and molding tools are provided on both sides of the central plate, into which plastic can be injected by means of injection devices.
In most injection molding machines with a center plate, the center plate is guided over joints, racks and similar connections between the two mold halves.
As a result, only a synchronous movement of the middle plate to the clamped tool halves can be realized. So far, it has not been considered that the known decoupling of the forced movement and conversion into a controllable or regulatable movement makes it possible to implement different types of processing in both separation planes.
While injection molding devices of the specified type have so far been used exclusively for injection molding with an unchangeable volume, the invention provides that at least one of the molding tools is designed as an injection molding tool.
This proposal is initially opposed to the objection that the middle plate must be freely displaceable during the embossing process, since its storage cannot accommodate the embossing pressure. However, the stamping process is influenced by the pressure in the tool on the opposite side of the center plate, unless it is provided that while a stamping process is taking place on one side of the center plate, the mold cavities of the tools arranged on the opposite side of the center plate are kept depressurized.
This measure only theoretically leads to an extension of the cycle time, for example if an embossing process is intended in both injection stations. The practical application of the invention, however, is to be seen in the fact that on one side of the central plate a large-area part is to be manufactured as gently as possible, yet precisely, and that a part of small volume is then molded onto the molded part that is produced, which can be carried out easily. while a preform molded in the first station cools down. An important application of the invention is thus, for example, two-part cover plates for the headlights of cars.

Large, crystal-clear parts have extremely high demands on low tension and distortion. By injection into a slightly open mold, the flow cross-sections are enlarged and the shear stresses are reduced. The subsequent embossing by the build-up of the clamping force replaces the holding pressure phase. The flow paths during embossing are short and therefore no noteworthy tensions are introduced during this process. The result is a low-stress plastic part with excellent optical quality, on which, for example, a seal can be molded in the second station of the injection molding machine.
Details of the invention are subsequently explained with reference to the drawing. 1 is a schematic side view of an injection molding device in which at least one plunge edge tool according to FIG. 2 is to be used according to the invention.
In Fig. 1, an injection molding machine is shown, the basic structure of which belongs to the prior art. It has a fixed platen 1 and a movable platen 2. This can be moved on spars 3 (the lower front spar is omitted in the illustration) by means of rapid lifting cylinders 4. A central plate 5 is arranged between the mold mounting plates 1 and 2 and can be displaced in the machine longitudinal direction by means of a hydraulic unit 6. A hydraulic motor, not shown, allows the central plate 5 to be rotated about its vertical central axis. shape Injection molding tools 7 and 8 are indicated schematically on both sides of the center plate 5. Plastic is injected into these tools via injection units 9 and 10.
During the injection process, the clamping devices 11 prevent the movable platen 2 from moving, the spars 3. The closing pressure is generated by slightly moving the spars 3 together with the / movable platen 2 by means of the pressure pads 12 in the direction of the fixed platen 1.
It is essential for the invention that the tools 7 and 8, which are only indicated schematically in FIG. 1, do not both consist of tool halves which can no longer be moved relative to one another as soon as the mold cavity is closed. According to the invention, at least one of the tools 7, 8 should rather be designed as an embossing tool, such as
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
this is shown in FIG. 2 using the example of the right tool 8. The tool consists of two mold halves 8 ′ and 8 ″, which can still be pushed together when the mold cavity 14 is already filled with plastic 13. This compression of the plastic 13, referred to as embossing, only comes to an end when the mold gap Sp of the plunge edge tool 8 has disappeared and the tool halves 8 'and 8 "lie against each other at the end.
The following method is now carried out in the device shown: First, the movable platen 2 is moved into the position shown in FIG.
1 brought position, wherein the tool 8 in the station I defined by the fixed platen 1 and the central plate 5 has the embossing gap shown in Fig. 2. The tool 7 is completely closed in the station @ defined by the movable platen 2 and the central plate 5. Now the hydraulic drive 6 for the middle plate 5 to the tank is vented and thus the displacement of the middle plate 5 is released. The mold cavity 14 of the tool 8 is, as can be seen from FIG. 2, first filled volumetrically and then the enclosed plastic 13 is compressed in a stamping process until the mold halves 8 ′ and 8 ″ lie against one another.
After completion of the embossing process in station I, a pre-molded part embossed in the previous cycle according to the method described is connected in station 11 in tool 7 to a second component by injection molding, while the pre-molded part just produced in station I cools down. After the cooling time has ended, the mold is opened, the finished, two-component part is removed from the parting plane in station @, and the pre-molded part produced in station I is brought into the second injection position by rotating the center plate 5.
