This commutator works as follows:
At the moment when the brush K bridges the segments and and transforming electromotive forces are introduced into the coil B2, they call forth corresponding currents in short circuit, which currents at a given moment have the direction of the dashed arrows located under the coil. Current therefore flows down through conductor () 2 and coil D2, through conductor Fl. down, through commutator segment 12, brush K to segment 13, from there through conductor F3, coil E2 and conductor C3 back to the armature coil.
It can be seen from this that this short-circuit current must flow through coil D2 downwards and coil E2 upwards. Since, however, as explained earlier, these two coils exert a strong choke effect in this case, the short-circuit current will be kept low because of the inductance of the coils D2 and E3.
The coils D2 and E2 therefore prevent the flow of the current caused by the transformer effect of the field in the short-circuited coil to a considerable extent, but do not offer any significant resistance to the flow of the main armature current, since this current flows through both coils D, 2 in the same direction, d. H. either up or down, so that their magnetization effects cancel each other out. No significant part of the main current mentioned can flow through the coils D3, EI, because the magnetization effect of one coil is not canceled by any oppositely directed magnetization effect, and these coils therefore oppose their full impedance to the passage of the current.
Accordingly, the subject matter of the invention achieves the dual purpose that a high resistance is introduced into the short circuit and the coils formed in this way exert a choke effect.
The choke coils can be made of asbestos-insulated copper strips to make them heat-resistant. It can be seen that when this commutator is arranged, the simplest form of armature winding can be used and no special form of brushes is required. A higher voltage per segment can also be used, which either results in a higher line voltage or a lower conversion (transformation) ratio.
The shape of the commutator can be modified. 2 illustrates in a diagram a commutator of the same nature as the previously described, in which special strength of the iron part and savings in iron are achieved. The Aaker coils B, BI ..... are connected as before by conductors C, Cl .... with choke coils D, Dol ..... and E, EI ....., which are wound on the multiple iron core V. . The latter can be made from a laminated

segments I, / ..... connected, on which the brush K grinds. The choke coils are most suitably formed from conductor strips; however, wires can also be used.
