<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The invention relates to a method for washing an absorbent material, such as a nonwoven fabric or a spun fiber cable, with washing liquid, wherein the material to be washed over at least two consecutively arranged washing fields and the washing liquid in countercurrent to the transport direction of the material to be washed from washing area to wash area is directed, is collected at each washing field in a container and flows through an overflow into the container of upstream in the transport direction of the material to be washed washing field, and a device for carrying out the method.
In recent decades, intensive efforts have been made to provide alternative, more environmentally friendly processes due to the environmental concerns of the viscose process for producing cellulosic fibers. As a particularly interesting possibility has emerged in recent years to dissolve cellulose without forming a derivative in an organic solvent and to extrude molded articles from this solution. Fibers spun from such solutions have been assigned the genus name Lyocell by BISFA (The International Bureau for the Standardization of Man Made Fibers), where organic solvent means a mixture of an organic chemical and water. Furthermore, such fibers are also known by the term "solvent-spun fibers".
It has been found that, as organic solvents, in particular a mixture of a tertiary amine oxide and water is outstandingly suitable for the production of lyocell fibers or other shaped articles. The amine oxide used here is predominantly N-methylmorpholine-noxide (NMMO). Other suitable amine oxides are disclosed in EP-A 0 553 070.
A process for producing cellulosic shaped bodies from a solution of cellulose in a mixture of NMMO and water are, for. In US-A 4,246,221 or PCT-WO93 / 1923. The cellulose solution is extruded from a spinneret, stretched in an air gap and precipitated from the solution in an aqueous precipitation bath. This process will hereinafter be referred to as "amine oxide process" or "lyocell process", which by the abbreviation "NMMO" in the following all tertiary amine oxides are meant that can dissolve cellulose.
Fibers produced by the amine oxide process are characterized by high fiber strength in the conditioned and in the wet state, a high wet modulus and a high loop strength.
It is known from PCT-WO 97/14829 that the freshly spun lyocell fibers are cut after leaving the precipitation bath and washed in the form of a fleece of irregularly oriented fibers.
PCT WO 92/14871 describes a process for washing fibers made by the amine oxide process. The not yet cut continuous fibers are guided in the form of a fiber cable through several washing baths, wherein the washing baths communicate with each other, abandoned fresh washing liquid in the last wash and is conducted in countercurrent to the transport direction of the fiber cable to the first wash. The cutting of the fibers to staple fibers takes place only in a later stage of the process.
When washing a non-woven fabric made by the lyocell process, the spun fiber tow is withdrawn from the spinning machine, fed into a cutting machine and cut into fiber staples of defined length. Subsequently, in the alluvium from the staple fibers, a homogeneous fiber fleece F is formed, which - as shown in FIG. 1 - applied to a screen belt and by several, for. B. five washing steps (wash fields I to V) (NMMO is washed out) is performed. The washing stages work on the countercurrent principle, d. H. in the last washing field V, the nonwoven fabric F with z. B. Room temperature to 70 C warm fresh scrubbing liquid (eg, deionized water) spritzed, the washing field IV with the running washing liquid from washing field V and IV, etc., as shown in Fig. 1.
In the further washing stages, therefore, the NMMO concentration in the washing liquid increases and is highest in Wachfeld I. The necessary washing liquid is under consideration of the optimal
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Washing effect chosen so that the cost of evaporation of the NMMO-containing washing liquid remain within an economically acceptable framework.
The liquor ratio Fv is for the required fresh washing liquid z. 1:13 (i.e., 1 kg of fiber comes with 13 kg of fresh washing liquid) and e.g. 1:20 for the circulation per wash field. In order to minimize carry-over of NMMO-loaded scrubbing liquid via the non-woven fabric into the next washing step, the non-woven fabric F according to the prior art is pressed to a certain moisture content with press rolls W arranged between the washing fields I to V (see FIG. 1).
The washing liquid of the individual washing stages is z. B. in four containers I 'to IV' collected (the flow of washing field V runs in the container IV ', which is located under the washing field IV), which are either connected to each other via pipelines or arranged in cascade. The quantity of washing liquid which overflows from the container IV into the container III ', etc., corresponds to the fresh washing liquid with which the nonwoven fabric F is sprayed in the washing field V (see Fig. 1) and the washing liquid pressed off after the washing field V. As a result, the NMMO concentration of the overflowing washing liquid is lower than the NMMO concentration of the washing liquid which flows from a washing field directly into the underlying container. In the containers I 'to IV' takes place a homogeneous mixing of the washing liquid.
With the respective concentration of NMMO, which is established in the containers I 'to IV, the fibrous web F is washed out in the washing fields I to IV.
The object of the invention is to improve the above-described prior art to the effect that the effectiveness per washing stage for the same fleet, d. H. same fresh amount of scrubbing liquid plus the amount of scrubbing water pressed off after washing field V and the circulation rate per washing field is increased. In this case, the fleece is to be sprinkled with a washing liquid whose NMMO concentration or the concentration of other substances washed out is lower than in the prior art.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that at least part of the washing liquid flowing from a washing field into the container associated with this washing field is passed directly into the container arranged in the conveying direction of the material to be washed while avoiding mixing with the washing liquid present in this container.
As a result, it comes to a direct overflow of running away from the washing water wash water in the direction of conveyance of the material to be washed container. The directly overflowing amount of washing liquid depends on the liquor ratio of the individual washing stage.
A preferred embodiment is therefore characterized in that the washing liquid flowing from a washing field into the container associated with this washing field is conducted in an amount of between 50 and 100% directly into the container upstream of the conveying material, preferably in an amount between 60 to 100% 80%, especially in an amount of about 75%.
This transfer of the washing liquid quantity running off the washing field can advantageously be carried out by reducing the flow rate of the washing liquid flowing from a washing field into the container associated with this washing field, preferably within the containers.
A device for carrying out the method with two or more washing fields arranged one behind the other in the conveying direction of the material to be washed, a container associated with each washing field, which is provided with an overflow device to the container arranged upstream in the conveying direction of the material, characterized in that the overflow device is a dividing device for the washing liquid supplied to the container
<Desc / Clms Page 3>
has, with the at least a portion of the recirculated to a container washing liquid in the direction of conveyance of the material to be washed container is conductive.
Preferably, the dividing means is formed as a flow breaker of a container, and given a connection with the remaining part of the container via a circulation opening.
A structurally simple embodiment of the device is characterized in that the container is divided by means of a functioning as a flow breaker approximately vertically oriented wall into two approximately equal parts, which are connected to a circulation opening.
Advantageously, a baffle plate with a circulation opening functioning as an additional flow breaker is provided in the first part having the overflow, in particular in the first upper third of the first part.
For a conversion of an existing device in an inventive is expediently the dividing device as branched off from a washing liquid return pipe branch pipe, which opens into the adjacent upstream container, and the return pipe after branching of the branch pipe with a flow breaker for back-flowing washing liquid, such as a taper or an orifice, provided or it acts the bottom of a container as a flow breaker.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to several embodiments shown in the drawing, wherein FIG. 1 illustrates a conventional device and FIG. 2 illustrates a part thereof after the conversion into a device according to the invention. FIG. 3 shows another embodiment analogous to FIG. 2. Figs. 4 and 5 illustrate modified embodiments of an overflow pipe.
According to the invention the effectiveness of the washing is increased by a homogeneous mixing in the containers I 'to IV, d. H. the washing liquid supplied to the respective container I 'to IV' with the washing liquid already present in the container I 'to IV' is prevented, which can be realized by the measures and devices described below: From FIG. 2 it can be seen that each of the containers - It is only the container III'und IV 'illustrated - according to the invention divided into two parts 1 and 2, by installation of a vertical wall 3. Between the two parts 1 and 2 of a container is a compound in the form of a circulation opening 4 am lower end of the wall 3.
A return flow pipe 5 returning the wash liquid from the wash tank associated with the one tank opens above the part 1 of the container to which an overflow 6 is provided in the container arranged in the transport direction of the nonwoven fabric F. In order to overflow the recirculated washing liquid largely into the upstream container, according to the invention a dividing device for the washing liquid is provided, which is designed according to FIG. 2 as built into the part 1 of the container flow breaker 7. The flow breaker 7 is e.g. one in the upper third of the part 1 horizontally installed baffle plate 8 with a circulation opening. 9
This ensures that the washing liquid entering this part 1 of a container I 'to IV for the most part overflows immediately without mixing with the washing liquid in the container; Mixing takes place depending on the size of the circulation openings 4 and 9 only to a very small extent.
This means that the concentration of the overflowing washing liquid and the concentration of the effluent from an upstream container washing liquid are in about the same range, even in different fleets.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The outlet 10 of each container I 'to IV' is located in the containers I 'to IV' in the part 2, in which the returning washing liquid does not enter, so fluidly after the circulation opening 4 at the bottom of the wall 3 of each container I 'to IV '.
The dividing device can also, as shown in Figs. 3,4 and 5, as from the washing liquid return pipe 5 outgoing branch pipe 11 with vent, which opens into the adjacent upstream container, be formed, the return pipe 5 fluidly after the branch of the Branch pipe 11 is provided with a flow breaker 7 as a braking device for the back-flowing washing liquid. This flow breaker 7 may e.g. be designed as constriction (Fig. 4), as a diaphragm or as a deflection device (Fig. 5).
Fig. 6 illustrates a variant similar to the variant shown in Figs. 3,4 and 5, according to which, however, the washing liquid return pipe 5 is guided to just above the bottom 12 of a container I 'to IV', whereby the bottom 12 itself as Flow breaker 7 acts.
The invention can be realized in plants according to the prior art in a simple manner, especially since only minor modifications to the containers I to IV are to be carried out, d. H. a complete new production of the plant is not required.
The particular effectiveness of the device according to the invention is illustrated by the following table:
