Hier findet auch das Ultraschall-Ermüdungsverfahren als zeitsparende Methode seine Anwendung. Bei diesem Verfahren werden Dauerschwingproben bei einer Frequenz im kHz-Bereich axial oder biegewechselbeansprucht. Dabei wird entweder mit einem Schwinger oder mit zwei Schwingen gearbeitet ; diese Verfahren sind in der Literatur beschrieben (R. Mitsche et al., Wissenschaftlicher Film, 14,1973, 3-10 ; W. Kromp et al., Ultrasonics International Conf. Proc. London, 1973, 297 ;
EMI1.1
International Conf. Proc.
Wollte man daher z.

<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The invention relates to an ultrasound test device for determining fracture mechanical and / or fatigue characteristics, according to which a sample is optionally pretensioned and excited by ultrasound with at least one vibrator to resonate vibrations, with either the vibration amplitude or the elongation, the number of load cycles, the sample temperature and at fracture mechanical investigations, the crack length can be measured using optical methods and / or by means of the potential difference method and / or by the frequency change of the ultrasound system.
In operation, stationary or moving parts of machines and systems are often exposed to torsional stresses with superimposed alternating stresses, e.g. B. drive shafts, shafts of other mechanical systems or ropes of bridges, lifts, cable cars and ski lifts.
Most investigations of fatigue behavior and crack formation and propagation, however, have so far only been carried out in tension-tension, tension-compression or alternating bending stresses.
The ultrasonic fatigue process is also used here as a time-saving method. In this method, fatigue tests at a frequency in the kHz range are subjected to axial or alternating bending. Either one oscillator or two oscillators are used; these methods are described in the literature (R. Mitsche et al., Wissenschaftlicher Film, 14, 1973, 3-10; W. Kromp et al., Ultrasonics International Conf. Proc. London, 1973, 297;
EMI1.1
International Conf. Proc. London, 1973, 297) is superimposed on the ultrasonic alternating stress and via an arrangement in which either an ultrasonic alternating stress with / without axial preload or a low-frequency alternating stress is carried out (AT-PS No. 354146).
A disadvantage of the known ultrasonic devices is that they cannot simulate the superimposition of different stress methods.
The aim of the invention is to eliminate this disadvantage. According to the invention, this goal is achieved with an ultrasound device of the type described in the introduction in that a torsional stress is impressed as a prestress. This object is achieved in an advantageous manner in that the device for impressing a torsional load consists of a statically and / or intermittently loaded one or two-armed lever, the path of movement of which runs normal to the axis of the sound transmission pieces and that by means of a tube, the axis of which is central to the second Sound transmission piece runs, is rotatably connected to this via a coupling attached to the point of vibration of the second sound transmission piece.
A particularly advantageous device results from the fact that the lever is designed as a wheel, on the circumference of which, for the purpose of impressing a static torsional load, grasp weight-loaded cables guided by fixed rollers.
So far, only low-frequency machines are known in which the superimposition of an axial (mode I) and a torsion (mode III) stress is possible. Such a superimposition is not obvious for an ultrasound exposure, because the principles as used for low-frequency exposure cannot be applied for the following reason: As is known, with ultrasound exposure, sufficiently large stress amplitudes can only be achieved by resonance, so that only a few digits - namely the locations of the vibration node of the sound transmission system and the sample - come into question as load application points. So you wanted z.
For example, if a torsional load is transferred directly to an ultrasound sample, the load application point would have to be in the center of the longitudinal sample, exactly at the point where the maximum expansion due to the ultrasound stress

or consists of different parts with cylindrical, conical or curved surfaces.
The advantage of the device according to the invention is that it is now possible to combine the known time-saving ultrasound stress with a static or cyclically changing torsion stress, which is numerous in practice
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Occurring cases of a train-pressure or train-train alternating stress (mode I) with superimposed torsional stress is of great importance. In particular, the case of high torsional stress with a superimposed small Mode I alternating stress with conventional, low-frequency testing machines is very difficult to implement because of the very long test periods to be expected. With the specified device, this difficulty is eliminated.
The torsional stress impressed as a preload can be kept constant; this is particularly recommended for the examination of cable car, elevator and ski lift cables, in which the part wires are twisted and a mode I alternating stress is superimposed during operation.
However, the torsional stress can also be cyclical; this type of stress will be particularly useful when testing generator or motor drive shafts.
In addition, a static or cyclic axial load can be superimposed on the loads listed. These types of stress are particularly important for testing bridge suspension ropes.
The invention is explained on the basis of the schematic diagram. A single-swing system is assumed as an exemplary embodiment, but the principle of the invention can also be applied to a two-swing system.
A sample is coupled in a known manner to a sound transmitter, consisting of a 1/2 sound source, an X / 2 amplitude amplifier 2 and an x / 2 sound transmission piece 3. The location of the vibration node of the sound transmission piece serves in a known manner as a mounting and force application point --4--. The sample --5-- oscillates e.g. B. in cylinder, watch glass or dumbbell shape in resonance, is full or hollow and with or without notch in the longitudinal center --6-- provided. A second À / 2 sound transmission piece --7-- is coupled to the second end of the sample. At the location of the vibration node --8-- one end of a tube --9-- is attached, which is connected at the other end to a lever-shaped device --10 rigid.
The connection between lever and machine frame --17-- consists of a bearing --11--, in which lever-shaped devices of different dimensions can be installed. On the circumference of the lever-shaped device there is a groove --12--, in which cables --13-- guided by two fixed rollers --14-- serve to fasten two weights --15-. These weights create a static torsional force on the specimen --5--.
Instead of the arrangement of groove-cable-fixed roller weights --12-15--, a motor or a fatigue machine can also be coupled via an eccentric; In this way, cyclic torsional loading of the specimen --5-- can be achieved. The torsional stress can optionally be superimposed on the ultrasonic stress, or ultrasonic and torsional stresses can be applied independently and alternately. The bearing --11-can be omitted if the torsional stress is applied symmetrically and therefore there is no bending moment.

a strain gauge at the location of the maximum elongation in the longitudinal center --6-- of the specimen --5--. The ultrasound amplitudes can be applied either constantly or randomly in a known manner (S. Stanzl et al., In "Advances in Fracture Research", eds. S. R. Valluri et al., 5, 1984, 3645). The number of load changes is determined in a known manner. For fracture mechanical examinations, the crack length is determined in a known manner either optically or using the potential probe method (AT-PS No. 378853) or from the natural frequency change of the ultrasound system (dissertation H. Ehrenberger, 1984).
