Erfindungsgemässe Veränderung in Licht/Tiefe :
Tabelle I
EMI1.1
<tb>
<tb> bei <SEP> 3 <SEP> Farbauszügen <SEP> Cyan <SEP> 9 <SEP> - <SEP> 95% <SEP>
<tb> Magenta <SEP> 7 <SEP> - <SEP> 85% <SEP>
<tb> Yellow <SEP> 8-92%
<tb> und <SEP> bei <SEP> 4 <SEP> Farbauszügen <SEP> Cyan <SEP> 9 <SEP> - <SEP> 90% <SEP>
<tb> Magenta <SEP> 7 <SEP> - <SEP> 80% <SEP>
<tb> Yellow <SEP> 8 <SEP> - <SEP> 87% <SEP>
<tb> Schwarz <SEP> 0 <SEP> - <SEP> 60% <SEP>
<tb>

EMI1.3
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<tb> Licht <SEP> 0, <SEP> 3 <SEP> 9% <SEP> (9%) <SEP> 7% <SEP> (7%) <SEP> 8% <SEP> (8%) <SEP> 0%
<tb>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The invention relates to a method for producing halftone color separations and their printing form production for flexographic printing.
The current state of the art shows that only templates of line subjects, full-tone areas and line-screen combinations can be processed in one or more color printing runs in flexographic printing.
In the field of flexographic printing, the method according to the invention gives the possibility of also separating colored images, drawings, tonal gradations, etc., which were previously handled in line or line-grid combinations, into three- or four-colored halftone color separations, and to create and print a flexographic printing form that is correct for the tonal value .
The advantage of the process lies in the variety of possible colors and economy in the further processing of the printed fabrics.
Halftone color separations and their printing form production for offset printing, letterpress printing, gravure printing, screen printing and light printing are known in numerous types of processes in order to achieve a good printing result.
In flexographic printing, however, there are limits to the quality of the printed image due to the printing form and the structure of the substances to be printed and the resulting dot gain.
In particular, the dot gain and the resulting change in the gradation and color balance that result from this printing process has not allowed the production and printing of halftone color separations and flexographic printing plates.
The method according to the invention for producing halftone color separations and their printing form for flexographic printing is characterized in that the tonal values and the resulting changes in the gradation of the halftone color separations and the printing forms are adjusted such that they counteract the dot gain in the flexographic printing process.
The tonal value changes take place in light, depth, depth drawing (3/4-tone), mid-tone (1/2-tone) and light drawing (1/4-tone).
Change according to the invention in light / depth:
In order to be able to produce halftone color separations and their printing form for flexographic printing, the light and depth value in the individual separation colors must first be set to certain halftone percentages.
The light and the depth of the template are preferably set to the following values:
Table I
EMI1.1
<tb>
<tb> for <SEP> 3 <SEP> color separations <SEP> cyan <SEP> 9 <SEP> - <SEP> 95% <SEP>
<tb> Magenta <SEP> 7 <SEP> - <SEP> 85% <SEP>
<tb> Yellow <SEP> 8-92%
<tb> and <SEP> for <SEP> 4 <SEP> color separations <SEP> cyan <SEP> 9 <SEP> - <SEP> 90% <SEP>
<tb> Magenta <SEP> 7 <SEP> - <SEP> 80% <SEP>
<tb> Yellow <SEP> 8 <SEP> - <SEP> 87% <SEP>
<tb> Black <SEP> 0 <SEP> - <SEP> 60% <SEP>
<tb>
With 3-color separations, the depth value must be higher than with 4-color separations. Due to the lack of the 4th color black, the depth values in the 3-color separation have to be increased by 5% in order to achieve more black in the shadow area.
The black separation is to be made skeleton-like to support the depth drawing.
In the light area, the percentage of the individual colors in the 3-color separation and 4-color separation should remain the same in order to obtain a neutral white.
Change of gradation according to the invention:
EMI1.2
EMI1.3
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The dot gain that happens in flexographic printing does not take place evenly across all tonal values.
The point in the light increases up to 52% and in depth up to 12% in cross-section, i.e. that is, there is a flattening of the gradation, which is particularly evident in the upper area between the mid-range and depth.
Because of this negative influence, the tonal values must be specially influenced in order to achieve a good flexographic printing form.
Example of a tonal value change according to the invention of a gray wedge with specified densities for producing a halftone color separation (3-colored and 4-colored) for printing on corrugated cardboard in flexographic printing:

<tb> Light drawing <SEP> (1/4-tone) <SEP> 25% <SEP> 0, <SEP> 5 <SEP> 12% <SEP> (12%) <SEP> 10% <SEP> (10 %) <SEP> 11% <SEP> (11%)

<tb> Light <SEP> 0, <SEP> 3 <SEP> 9% <SEP> (9%) <SEP> 7% <SEP> (7%) <SEP> 8% <SEP> (8%) < SEP> 0%
<tb>
In order to arrive at this gradation, the tonal values (depth drawing, mid-tone and light drawing) must be corrected according to the invention to the values listed in Table 2.
However, when adjusting the tonal values, attention must be paid to the color balance so that there is no shift in the gray values and hues.
The influence on the gradation has a positive counteraction to the dot gain, but requires an intensification of the inherent colors (black colors) in order to keep the motif vivid.
You have to increase the value of your own colors by about 15 to 20%.
In order not to get a too strong raster structure in the printed image, the 90 angle, which is mostly used for the yellow separation, should be avoided. All other screen angles can be used without deteriorating the structure.
The amount of dots per cm2 of the screenings is determined by the screen rollers of the flexographic printing machine and the surface properties of the fabrics to be printed.
The further processing of the halftone color separations on the flexographic printing plate should take place taking into account the change in tonal values according to the invention.
In order to achieve a correct polymerization of the flexographic printing plate and thereby to avoid any shift in the tonal value, the light value in the flexographic printing plate should be well capped and the intermediate depth of a negative point of 400 tim diameter should be less than 70 Ilm.
Example of the production according to the invention of a 3-color halftone color separation and its flexographic printing plate for printing on corrugated cardboard by means of flexographic printing:
A colored drawing, photo or slide is used as a template.
The template is treated as usual until the tone values are entered or set.
The tonal value changes according to the invention now take place:
The assumed light and depth value of the template is set to the value in Table 1 given in order to obtain an optimal result.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The assumed midtone (1/2 tone) of the original is reduced by approximately 68% in cyan
Magenta around 78%
Yellow reduced by approximately 72%.
The assumed depth drawing (3/4-tone) of the template is reduced by approximately 28% in cyan
Magenta around 38%
Yellow reduced by approximately 34%.
The assumed light drawing (1/4 tone) of the original is reduced in cyan by approximately 52%
Magenta around 60%
Yellow reduced by about 56%.
After the tone values have been set, the balance of the individual color separations is checked or corrected and, if necessary, the intrinsic colors are increased by approximately 15 to 20%.
With the assumed tonal values, the change in balance and the inherent colors, the desirable image character of the end product to be manufactured must be assumed.
The rest of the process for producing the color separation is done as usual.
After the color separation according to the invention has been produced, the flexographic printing plate should be manufactured so that the tonal value changes according to the invention are not impaired in such a way that the light values in the flexographic printing plate are well capped and the intermediate depths of a negative point of 400 11 m in diameter fall below a depth of 70 11 m.
Basically, it should be said that the change in tonal values according to the invention should be transferred to the flexographic printing plate.
The inventive production of the halftone color separations and their flexographic printing form makes it possible to print colored images, drawings, etc. using the flexographic printing process.
This results in possible uses that were previously only possible in flexographic printing in connection with other printing processes.
Screen color prints on packaging no longer need to be printed in another printing process and then laminated, but can be printed directly in flexographic printing.
Print runs that require a variety of inherent colors, e.g. B. when printing color wallpapers, can be managed with 3 or 4 colors.
