Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

The invention relates to a device for locking two overlapping cardboard walls, with at least one locking lug punched out of one wall and at its base along a folding edge connected to the wall, at least one punched out of the other wall and at its base along one Folding edge holding tabs connected to the wall, with an opening being formed in the wall when the holding tab is bent off this wall, the width of which is
Width of the locking lug corresponds at its base and the edge of which lies opposite the base of the retaining tab and is assigned to the base of the locking tab.

From US-PS No. 2, 786, 572 is a device for locking two overlapping one another
Cardboard walls are known, in which locking lugs are punched out of one wall, which are arranged so that they can be inserted into corresponding locking openings in the other wall, these locking openings being punched out of the other wall
Retaining lobes are limited. The known locking device forms a safe and reliable
Closure, e.g. B. in transport packaging. The security of such packaging is ensured by the fact that the known locking mechanism acts against the internal stress of a cardboard blank that is wrapped around several objects.

While some transport packaging equipped with the lock according to US Pat. No. 2,786,572 are intended as containers for large multi-packs, they are generally not suitable for the currently very popular large bulk containers. Out
In order to keep the environment clean and for other reasons, large multipacks can be returned to the packaging companies.

In order for such packaging to remain intact as long as it has to perform its function, wall locks, particularly in connection with packaging for large bottles and cans formed from wrapping blanks, must offer reliable security, although the tension of the wrapping blank can be considerable and even though the interlocks can be closed excessive moisture may have softened.

However, the known locking device can only partially meet these requirements.

It is therefore the object of the invention to provide a device for locking two overlapping cardboard walls, in particular in the case of transport packaging of this type, which is free from the disadvantages of the known devices and which ensures reliable locking even under considerable tension and in particular even then when the packaging is softened by exposure to moisture.

This object is achieved with a device of the type mentioned at the outset in that, according to the invention, the locking lug has a recess into which at least one locking lug engages when the cardboard walls are locked and is provided on the edge of the opening opposite the base of the retaining tab.

The invention is explained below with reference to a preferred embodiment which is shown schematically in the drawings; 1 shows a diagrammatic view of a transport packaging for cans in the reverse position, so that the locking device normally located on the bottom of the carrier is visible, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the cardboard walls to be locked, Fig. 4 is a similar view as in Fig. 3, but with the cardboard walls locked, Fig. 5 is a partial section along the line 5-5 in Fig. 2 and Fig. 6 Top view of a blank from which the transport packaging according to FIG. 1 is formed.

the recesses --69 to 73-- serve to improve the security of the lock, u. between

especially if the environmental conditions are characterized by a high degree of moisture, or in the event that other circumstances arise that cause the position of the folded edges --54 to 58-- to change. However, there is also the fact that the locking lugs and recesses tend to increase the clamping effect of the retaining tabs --59 to 63-- by means of a limited relative movement between the cardboard walls -16 and 17-- and thus generally have a favorable effect on the security of the locking .

The locking organs --79 to 83 are also able to maintain the lock even when the tension of the packaging decreases, for example when one or more objects are removed therefrom, and the like. by engaging the free ends of the retaining tabs --59 to 63-- in the grooves --69 to 83--, which prevents the retaining tabs --59 to 63-- from sliding against the locking tabs --49 to 53-- becomes.

   PATENT CLAIMS:
