The bolt 23 can be displaced in a groove in the travel crankshaft 22 (FIGS. 2 and 3).
If the button 9 is pressed down against the spring 24 while the crank is in the neutral position, the lower, beveled end of the bolt 23 enters the recess 25 of the sleeve 26, which is loosely seated on the crankshaft. This is around the corresponding bevel Rotated angle and coupled with the travel crank, so that it now takes part in the rotation of the latter. But if the button 9 is released, the bolt 23 is withdrawn and the sleeve 26 is uncoupled. This then snaps back under the action of the spring 27 tensioned during its rotation until it hits the rigid stop 29 with the thumb 28.
Immediately beforehand, the thumb 30 hits one end of the two-armed lever 31, the other arm of which rests on the bolt 32 of the outlet valve 7 pressed outwards by a spring and now pushes the latter inwards and opens the valve 7. The valve 7 then connects the chamber 27 in the adjusting valve 5 through the pipe 10 to the second reversing valve 8, which has the direct outlet 11 into the outside air.
The valve 8 sits on the guide brake cock 1 and is closed by the spring 19

Brake valve articulated handle 13 wears off. The spring 14 (FIG. 7) seeks to press down the short arm of the handle 13 and to lift the longer arm, which is designed roughly like a door handle. In Fig. 7, the handle 13 is shown in the position in which it is depressed by the driver. The shorter arm rests on the semi-circular bracket
EMI2.2
When the lever 13 is released, the pipe 10 is thus connected to the outlet 11; the former empties and, if the valve 7 is not closed, also the chamber 21 of the valve.).
This is opened, the brakes are applied.
The mode of operation is as follows: If the driver only lets go of the drive switch button 9, the valve 7 is opened, but the chamber 21 is not vented because the outlet 11 is closed by the depressed handle 13. If the driver only lets go of the handle 13, the outlet 77 is opened, but the chamber 21 is vented

is vented through pipe 10 and outlet 11. The brake control valve 5 is opened and the brakes are applied.
With direct air brakes, the device described above can be used in such a way that the pipe 4 is connected to the main air tank and the outside air duct 6 is connected to the main line, so that when the brake control valve 5 is opened, the main tank with the line through pipe 7, valve J and Tube 6 is connected to feed the brake cylinder.
