<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The invention relates to a device for the automatic control of air-conditioning processes, a common psychrometric sensor being used in the controlled environment for controlling the temperature and the relative humidity.
A similar but simpler device is known from the Czech patent specification No. 133261, claims 2 and 3. This device is solved for reasons of economy only for one purpose and therefore does not allow the construction of a universal air conditioning system for a wide range of relative humidity, as required by the various industrial, sanitary, breeding and agricultural fields.
The essence of the invention is a device for the automatic control of air conditioning processes, which uses a common psychrometric sensor for the control of temperature and the relative humidity. It is installed in the air-conditioned environment and consists of two thermometers, in the capillaries of which a contact wire is slidably arranged. It is moved by means of a nut on a guide screw of the thermometer. An anchor is attached to it inside the thermometer, which is rotated from the outside by means of a magnetic coupling. The contact wire forms a button and tracks the movement of the mercury column in both thermometers in such a way that the resulting rotation of the motor shafts belonging to the thermometers is constantly proportional to the position of the mercury column of the thermometer.
The slow-running first reversing motor belonging to the dry thermometer is connected to the magnetic coupling and therefore also to the guide screw of the dry thermometer via a vertical shaft and a pair of gears. The reversing motor is simultaneously connected to the temperature system shaft via a pair of gears and a second vertical shaft via a worm gear unit and also to the shaft to which the pointer is attached above the temperature scale via a pair of gears. The transmission ratios are designed in such a way that the temperature scale has a significantly larger scale than the scale of the thermometer and the movement of the temperature pointer always corresponds to the information on the thermometer. A sleeve is rotatably mounted on the shaft of the temperature system and can be fixed in the set position.
A cam for actuating the limit switches of the turning motor in the end positions of the pointer of the temperature scale is attached to it. On the same bushing there is a cam for operating the switch for heating and a cam for operating the switch for cooling. Both cams are mutually rotatable and can be fixed as a whole on the bushing in the selected position. Both switches are attached to the edge of a disk that is firmly connected to another hollow sleeve. This can be freely rotated on the shaft of the temperature system. At the second end of the sleeve, a worm wheel is keyed which meshes with a worm. Its bearings are attached to the support frame of an amplifier and the shaft of the worm is connected to the remote-controlled reversing motor by a flexible shaft.
A pulley wedged on the same bushing is spanned by a rope that is guided over four further rollers and over a pulley. This is attached to a hollow shaft, at the second end of which the pointer for the temperature preselection is attached.
The second low-speed reversing motor, which belongs to the humidity thermometer, is connected via a vertical shaft and a pair of gears with a magnetic coupling and thus also with the guide screw of the humidity thermometer. The turning motor is simultaneously connected via a pair of gears and a further vertical shaft via a worm gear to an inner hollow shaft which can be freely rotated on the shaft of the humidity system. At the right end of the hollow shaft a gear is attached, which meshes with a gear on the inner shaft of a circular scale. The pointer of the inner scale is attached to the second end of the hollow shaft, which corresponds to the temperature of the humidity thermometer.
A rotatable cam, which can be fixed in the selected position, is also mounted on the inner hollow shaft and serves to actuate the limit switches of the reversing motor in the end positions of the pointer on the temperature scale of the humidity thermometer. Furthermore, a rotatable cam for actuating the switch for moistening and a rotatable cam for actuating the switch for drying are attached to the inner hollow shaft. These two cams are mutually rotatable and can be fixed as a whole in the selected position with respect to the cam and also with respect to the inner hollow shaft. The upper part of the second vertical shaft of the reversing motor belonging to the dry thermometer is provided with a worm which meshes with a worm wheel keyed on the outer hollow shaft. This hollow shaft is freely rotatable on the inner hollow shaft.
At the second end of the outer hollow shaft, a second worm wheel is attached, which meshes with a worm, the bearings of which are mounted in a bracket that is attached to a disk.
This disc is freely rotatable on the inner hollow shaft. Switches are attached to the edge of the window which are used to control the humidification or drying system of the controlled environment. A roller is attached to the left end of the inner hollow shaft. It is spanned by a rope, one end of which is anchored in the pulley. The rope is also guided over three pulleys and spans another pulley that is firmly connected to the shaft of the temperature system. The second end of the rope is firmly connected to this further roller. The roller on the left end of the inner hollow shaft and the roller on the shaft of the temperature system have the same diameter. The middle of the three rollers can be moved on a guide. It has a rope to pull it to the right.
The rope passes through a flexible tubular guide and is guided around a pulley that is attached to the left end of the shaft of the moisture system. The rope is also over a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Roll with a segment and guided over a sleeve with a clock spring, which constantly tensions the rope. At the right end of the shaft of the humidity system there is a gear that meshes with a gear splined on the central hollow shaft. At the right end of the central hollow shaft, a pointer is arranged over a scale of the relative humidity. The turning motor for preselecting the humidity is connected by a flexible shaft to a worm, the bearing bracket of which is fastened to a disc rotatable on the inner hollow shaft.
The disc is spanned by a rope that is anchored in it and is guided over three pulleys and also over a disc, on the circumference of which the rope is attached with its second end. The disc is keyed on the shaft of the temperature system and has the same diameter as the disc with the worm console. The middle of the three rollers can be moved on a guide and is provided with a rope that is guided through a flexible tube and also spans a roller that is attached to the left end of the outer hollow shaft. The pointer for preselecting the humidity is located at its second end. The second end of the rope is attached to a bushing with a clock spring so that the rope is constantly under tension.
At the left end of the guide of the middle sliding roller is the power switch of the turning motor for the power interruption in the end position of the pointer of the humidity preselection.
At the left end of the shaft of the temperature system, a pulley spanned by a rope is attached, in which one end of the rope is anchored. The rope is also fed through a flexible tube to the roll of a recording device to which the second end of the rope is attached. Another rope-wrapped roller is attached to the roller shaft. The rope is anchored in this pulley and leads via another pulley, which is attached to the frame of the recording device, to a weight by which it is tensioned. The weight pulls the pen of the recorder to the right. This holder has a pointer over a temperature scale, the details of which correspond to those of the ring-shaped temperature scale. The roller with the segment is mounted on a bolt which is fastened in the support frame of the amplifier and has a driving pin for clockwise rotation of the segment.
A rope is wound around the circumference of the segment and is led through a flexible tube to the roll of the recording device. The second end of the rope is anchored in this role. A second roller is attached to the shaft of the recorder roller. It is spanned by a rope that is attached to its perimeter. It is tensioned to the right by the weight for the pull on the pen holder of the recording device via a roller. This holder is provided with a pointer over a partial scale of the relative humidity, the values of which agree with the information on the circular scale. The segment is secured against counter-clockwise rotation by an adjustable stop.
In comparison with the design according to the Czech patent specification No. 133262, the solution according to the invention has the following advantages: a) The device is extremely universal. It enables almost any one within its control range
Combination of the two controlled values, that is the temperature and the proportional one
Humidity of the controlled environment, insofar as this does not contradict the laws of physics or intervene in the area of negative temperatures, for which the psychrometric
Sensor is not suitable. b) The device can comparatively easily a cyclical control of the values of the air-conditioned
Environment can be adjusted, e.g.
B. in that the motors of the preselection for temperature and relative humidity are controlled by time commands from a programmer. c) The desired values of temperature or relative humidity can also be achieved by remote-controlled preselection of the same motors. d) The device enables precise registration with regard to the course of the controlled
For a quick overview, also registers the permitted limit values, the time and duration of the individual control processes, i.e. i. heating, cooling, drying and humidifying.
The registration is therefore completely convincing and allows a quick determination of the cause in the event of a deviation. e) The device enables, on a larger scale, the registration of the selected section of the course of the relative humidity. f) As a result of the mechanical power drive of the holder of the registration springs, springs with porous
Tips are used which, in contrast to the usual capillary springs, do not dry out, not even after long periods of operation.
The device according to the invention uses a common psychrometric sensor to control the temperature and humidity, which sensor is mounted in the controlled environment and is read by means of an electromechanical amplifier. The amplifier precisely tracks the movement of the mercury of both thermometers of the probe, enlarges them in terms of size and strength and transfers them to the links of the control mechanism. This then carries out the individual control services as required, such as heating, cooling, drying and humidification, etc. between individually or in suitable combinations so that the desired properties of the air-conditioned environment can be achieved. The construction of the amplifier also enables the common and mutually independent preselection of both controlled values of the environment, i. i. the temperature and humidity.
In addition, the amplifier graphically registers the progression of the achieved
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Temperature and humidity of the environment in relation to their preselected area and also the timing of the individual control activities.
The mechanical nature of the electromechanical amplifier according to the invention is shown in the drawing. An Assmann psychrometer is used as the temperature and humidity sensor, consisting of two thermometers, in the capillary of which a contact wire is slidably mounted. It is taken away by a nut that moves on a guide screw of the thermometer. An anchor is attached to the guide screw inside the thermometer, which is rotated from the outside by means of a magnet. The contact wire of the thermometer forms a button that tracks the mercury column position of the thermometer.
The guide screw of the thermometer is driven in both directions via a magnetic coupling by a motor which is reversed in short, regular time segments by a device which is not shown. The touch wire is alternately brought near the end of the mercury column of the thermometer or removed from the end. The electrical contact impulses obtained in this way are used to start or switch off the drive motor, so that the contact wire follows the mercury column of the thermometer precisely in both directions after the first contact. The resulting rotation of the shaft of the drive motor has started from this moment, on a scale according to the selected ratios, precisely the end position of the mercury column of the thermometer

relative humidity of the environment. One of the possible designs of the amplifier according to the invention is described in the following part.
EMI3.3
A bushing is rotatably mounted on the shaft - 11 - on which the cams - 17 and 18 - are also rotatably mounted, and the cam --19-- is attached to its end. The bush can be secured on the shaft - -11-- in the set position. The cam --19-- operates the limit switches - 20 and 21-- with its tooth.
You interrupt the power supply to the first turning motor --3-- in the end positions of the pointer - 15 - above the temperature scale - 16--. The cam - 17 - controls with its tooth the switch - 22 - for switching on or off the heating of the air-conditioned environment; Similarly, the cam --18-- uses the switch --23-- to switch the cooling on or off. Both cams can be mutually adjusted on the sleeve, so that the temperature difference to achieve the two performances, i.e. i. the setting of the tolerance field of the temperature control can be carried out.
In the selected position, the cams can be mutually fixed and by a

Both switches - 22 and 23 - are attached to the circumference of the disk --24 - which is firmly connected to the hollow sleeve that can rotate freely on the shaft. The worm wheel --25-- is firmly connected to the second end of the sleeve. It engages in the worm -26-, the bearings of which are fixed in the supporting structure of the facility. The groups consisting of the disk --24--, the worm wheel --25-- and the worm --26-- are fixed in space, even if the shaft-U-- rotates. The shaft of the worm -26- is connected to the turning motor -27- by a flexible shaft -29-.
If the armature of the reversing motor - 27 - rotates in one or the other direction of rotation as a result of a given command, the disk --24 - is also rotated in relation to the shaft - 11 - and the cams - 17 and 18, so that the nominal value of the ambient temperature, which is to be maintained automatically, is changed. The size of the remote preselected nominal temperature is on the temperature scale -16--

marked by the preselection pointer --28--, the movement of which is derived from the disk --24--, as can be seen in the drawing.
The second turning motor -30- sets the shaft -31-in rotation, which is controlled by the gear-wheel pairs -32 and 33-of the magnetic coupling -34-, the

proportional to the position of the mercury column in the humid thermometer --2-- and is transferred via the gear pair --35-- to the shaft --36-- and via the worm --37-- to the worm wheel --38--.
EMI4.2
The cams 46, 47 and 48 are rotatably mounted on the inner hollow shaft --39 -. The cam --48-- can be fixed in the set position on the inner hollow shaft --39--. This cam operates the limit switches - 49 and 50 - with its tooth. You interrupt the power supply to the second turning motor --30-- in the end positions of the pointer --44-- above the inner scale -45--. The cam -47- activates the switch -51- with its tooth, which switches the humidification system of the controlled environment on or off. Similarly, the cam --46-- switches the drying system on or off via switch --52--.
Both cams can be rotated on the hollow shaft against each other, whereby the adjustment of the humidity difference, i. i. the tolerance range of the humidity control, is made possible. In the selected position, the cams can be mutually fixed and connected to the cam with a screw. After fastening this cam on the inner hollow shaft --39-- the cam system is firmly connected to the inner hollow shaft --39--, the resulting rotation of which is proportional to the temperature of the humidity thermometer - 2 -.
The shaft - 7 -, the resulting rotation of which is proportional to the temperature readings of the dry thermometer - has a worm 53 in its upper part, which engages in the worm wheel 54. It is keyed on the outer hollow shaft --55--, which is freely rotatable on the inner hollow shaft --39--. At the other end of the outer hollow shaft --55 - another worm wheel - 56 - engaging in a worm 57 - is attached, the bearing of which is attached to a bracket - 58 - attached to the disk - 59 are.
If the worm gear, consisting of worm wheel --56-- and worm - 57--, does not rotate, the disk --59-- follows the rotation of the outer hollow shaft --55-- and the position given by the ratios the mercury column in the dry thermometer --1--.
On the circumference of the disk -59- the switches -51 and -52-are attached, which the moistening and
EMI4.3
--39-- taken along, the translation scale corresponds to the position of the mercury column of the wet thermometer --2--.
The cooperating systems of the disc-59--, the switches-51 and 52- and the cams -46 and 47 - are mutually rotated at each moment by an angle which corresponds to the psychrometric difference of the two thermometers. It is inversely proportional to the relative humidity of the controlled environment. Through the joint action of the two systems, the result of which is a suitable switchover of the switches - 51 and 52 - the prerequisites for an automatic control of the relative humidity of the environment are created. At the left end of the inner hollow shaft - 39 - a roller --60-- is attached. It is spanned by a rope - 61 - one end of which is attached to the pulley --60 -.
The rope --61-- is also passed over the rollers - 62, 63, 64 - and around the roller --65-- to which the second end of the rope is attached. The roller --63-- can be moved on a horizontal guide --66-- and is constantly pulled into the right end position by the rope - 67 -. This rope is guided through a flexible pipe guide --68 - and spans the pulleys -69 and 70-, as well as the
EMI4.4
pulled to the right and all superfluous play in the mechanism is eliminated on one side.
If the temperature of the air-conditioned environment does not change its relative humidity, the psychrometric difference between the two thermometers remains the same and the rollers - 60 and 65 - rotate at the same angle. Since both rollers have the same diameter, the length of the rope --61-- does not change between the rollers and the roller --63-- does not change its position. If there is a change in humidity at the same time, the psychrometric difference of the two thermometers also changes, and the angle of rotation of the roller --60-- differs from the angle of rotation of the roller
EMI4.5
the roller - 63 - moves in half the scale to the right or left, depending on the sense of the change in humidity.
The system of rollers - 60, 62, 63, 64 and 65 - forms a mechanical differential that only reacts positively or negatively to a change in the relative humidity and does not take into account the influence of temperature.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
When the pulley --63-- is shifted, the rope --67-- gives the pulley --69-- a rotation through an angle that corresponds to the change in the relative humidity in the transmission ratio. Since the roller -69- is firmly connected to the inner shaft -40, this shaft is also rotated and with it the gearwheel -72- attached to its right end. This gear wheel meshes with the gear wheel - 73 - which is attached to the central hollow shaft --74 - at the right end of which the pointer -75- is located. This shows the relative humidity of the environment on the humidity scale - 76 -.
In the previous part it was described how the group of switches - 51, 52 - and the disc - and furthermore the group of cams - 46 and 47 - maintain the preselected nominal humidity of the controlled environment through mutual cooperation, the humidity of which is maintained by the mutual position of the disc -59- is determined with respect to the outer hollow shaft --55-- and therefore the resulting rotation of the shaft always corresponds to the temperature of the dry thermometer --1 -.

in one direction or the other. The rotation of the turning motor --7-- is transmitted by the flexible shaft --78-- to the worm --57--, which rotates the disk --59-- in relation to the worm wheel --56--.

An exciting clock spring is attached to the sleeve-89. The

The roller - is attached to the shaft of the roller -95-. It is wrapped in the rope that is anchored in it. The rope --97-- is tensioned via the pulley -98 by the weight -100-, which pulls the penholder --101-- of the recording device to the right and thus eliminates the remaining play in the movement mechanism. The penholder -101- of the recorder is provided with a pointer that moves over the temperature scale -115, according to which, according to the correctly selected mechanism ratios, with those of the

The segment --102-- is rotatably mounted on the same bolt and is taken to the right by a pin fastened in the roller --70--. The rope --103-- is unrolled around the circumference of the segment and passed through a flexible tube --104-- to the pulley --105-- to which its second end is connected. On the shaft of the pulley --105-- there is also the pulley --106-- attached, which is spanned by the rope --107-- which is anchored in it. If the roller turns --70-- to the right, i.e. i. in the direction of the growing moisture, the segment - 102 - is carried along by the pin to the end position, which corresponds to the relative moisture of 100%. For physical reasons, this end position cannot be exceeded by the automatic control mechanism.
When moving back to the left, the segment --102-- is turned to the left by pulling the weight --109-- and follows the pin of the roller -70-until it hits the adjustable stop-112-

Moisture registration can be achieved in a similar manner, the exact registration of any section of the course of the relative humidity of the environment.
In the previous description it was stated that the controlling mechanism evaluates the degree of relative humidity of the environment achieved by comparing the resulting rotations of the shaft - 11 - and the inner hollow shaft - 39 - with one another. These rotations are proportional to the data on the wet or dry thermometer. However, this assumes that both thermometers must be exactly the same in terms of calibration and the lengths of the scale. Due to the difficult production technology of the thermometers, this requirement is very difficult to meet. The controlling device must therefore have such mechanical elements that the influence of possible deviations of the thermometer on the result of the control is eliminated.
In practice it was found that the thermometers of the selected pair usually show a deviation in the calibration which has a different value for each thermometer, but which is sufficiently uniform over the course of the temperature range. In addition, the thermometers usually have different scale lengths. This is caused by the difference in the clear width of the capillaries and the different capacity of the melted mercury container. This deviation would be particularly undesirable for the amplifier control system.
In order to be able to make an initial setting and a connection of the controlling system with the contact wires of the thermometer, the amplifier can be started electrically by hand and the first turning motor - 3 - and the second turning motor - 30 - are independent of the automatic control reversible, which is blocked.
EMI6.2
The end of the contact wire of the dry thermometer - l - is observed. As soon as the end of the wire has reached the middle of the scale, the turning motor is switched off by hand. The fastening screw of the holder
EMI6.3
Set the end of the contact wire by the value of the deviation outside the center of the scale.
As a result, the calibration deviation is taken into account once and for all and the control mechanism then works as if there were no deviation.
The same setting is made with the second thermometer using the holder --113 '-.
The setting can basically be made for any arbitrarily selected scale point.
If the thermometers are different with regard to the scale length, the influence of the deviation on the control can be switched off in such a way that the entire mechanical transmission from the tip of the contact wire of the thermometer to the pointer of the temperature scale can be selected by selecting one of the links, e.g. B. the gears - 116 and 117 - is modified in each thermometer so that an equal angle of rotation of the temperature pointer does not apply to 1 C for both thermometers. In practice, the procedure is as follows: For a given construction of the amplifier, an ideal comparative thermometer is chosen, in which a speed of the lead screw and the magnetic coupling of z. B. K is not applicable.
This thermometer assumes that the gear on the shaft of the magnetic coupling z. B. has 100 teeth. For every actual thermometer, the number of wires in the magnetic coupling, which is used for the entire range of the scale, is equal to A. The number of teeth --Zk-- of the correction wheel - 116 or 117 - for this thermometer, i.e. i. of the wheel on the shaft of its magnetic coupling is then given by a simple relationship: ZK = 100 K / A.
Thermometers that have their own correction wheels can then be interchanged on all amplifiers.

that it sets the pointer --44-- of the wet thermometer --2-- to a higher temperature than that of the dry thermometer --1--, the guide of the roller --63-- pushes against the safety switch --91--, the disconnects the device from the network. The temperature recording spring in the pen holder - 101 - and the moisture recording spring in the pen holder --HO - move over four fifths of its length above the cylinder of the recording device, and they move close to each other.
Four more springs are attached in hand-adjustable holders above the registration cylinder, two of which register the selected temperature limits and two more the selected limits of the relative humidity. To the right of these springs, in the fifth fifth of the registration cylinder, another four springs are attached in laterally pivotable holders. The pivoting of the holders is done by electromagnetic relays, each of which is started simultaneously with one of the controlled activities, i.e. i. with heating, cooling, drying or humidifying the air-conditioned environment. In the idle state, the feathers make vertical lines on the recording paper.
If one of the controlled activities is carried out, the holder of the corresponding spring makes a pivoting movement and the spring marks a tooth on the vertical line, the length of which is proportional to the duration of the controlled activity. To simplify the drawing, not all springs are shown.
Such an amplifier was made for the automatic control of an experimental humidity chamber, where it proved fully. A temperature control with a
