The invention relates to a front jaw of a safety binding with a frame on which a support jaw is mounted and which can be pivoted in the area of the end facing the ski tip about an axis arranged transversely to the longitudinal direction of the ski and parallel to the running surface relative to a base plate fixed to the ship, whereby the base plate can be releasably connected and frame on this a locking body provided with at least one locking element is attached, the longitudinal axis of which runs transversely to the pivot axis of the frame and in the departure position of the jaw perpendicular to the base plate.
Starting from such a toe piece, as described in Swiss Patent No. 451774, the aim of the invention is to design the toe piece in such a way that the resistances that have to be overcome to release the binding when falling forward or falling sideways , can be set differently from each other.
This goal is achieved according to the most essential features of the invention in that the locking element, for. B. a ball, is mounted in the locking body transversely to its longitudinal axis and against spring force displaceably and engages in a locking socket of a holding body attached to the base plate.
This solution according to the invention allows the ski boot to be released in the event of a fall backwards, regardless of how the support jaws and the organs used for their pivoting out and return are designed. In addition, the resistance to be overcome for the release can be set completely independently of the resistance that has to be overcome for the release in the event of lateral impacts.
For the sake of better understanding, further features of the invention are explained below using an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, which are shown in the drawings. In these, FIG. 1 is a partially sectioned side view of the front jaw in the closed and in the release position and FIG. 2 is a section along the line IN-IL in FIG. 1.
At the front edge of the base plate - 1 - intended for attachment to a ski (not shown), a hinge - 2 - is provided perpendicular to the axis of symmetry of the front jaw, around which the from the

is pivotable. The lower plate - 4 - has an opening - 7--, the edge of which rests against the underside of an adjustable stop --8-- screwed into the base plate --1-- in order to allow the pivoting movement between the Base plate-l - and the frame --6-- to limit.
In the frame - 6 - any actuating or return device for the support jaws - 9 - which are mounted in this frame and can optionally be pivoted individually can be accommodated.
Firmly connected to the base plate - 1 - is the vertically upwardly projecting, hollow cylindrical holding body - 10 -, the clear width of which decreases conically downwards from the end facing away from the base plate 1, which tapering into a locking socket - 11 - serving circular and inwardly projecting shoulder passes over.
With the holding body - 10 - the hollow latching body --12-- fastened on the top plate --3-- and projecting vertically upwards and downwards from this, works together, which is closed on its underside by the bottom - 13 - and has two side windows --14--, in
EMI1.2
--12-- umKugeln - 15 - occurs that the two balls - 15 - emerge sideways out of the windows - 14 - when the transmission organ --17-- is pressed downwards. The spring pressure can be adjusted with the screw --18--,
the spring -16- is supported against its head and the top of the transmission element -17-. The dimensions are selected so that in the full line in FIG
EMI1.3
Snap connection and the frame --6 - swivels around the hinge --2 - up to the release position shown in dashed lines in Fig. 1 and limited by the stop - 8 - in which the ski boot can separate from the binding .
To restore it is sufficient to pivot the frame --6-- in Fig. 1 counterclockwise around the hinge --2-- until the balls - 15 - snap back into the locking socket - 11 - which movement is caused by the conical shape of the inner surface of the holding body-10-is facilitated.
