Lauffeldtube with a delay line
The invention relates to a running field tube with a delay line consisting of a waveguide in which transverse webs are alternately arranged on opposite wall parts at equal intervals and to which a hollow pipeline is coupled at the end, which is essentially parallel from the end of the tube on the collector side runs to the delay line up to its cathode-side end and in the side facing away from the delay line a longitudinal web with the
Coupling point is arranged towards increasing height, the delay line with a parallel to the end face of the delay line, deflecting the electromagnetic wave and with an opening to
Passage of the electron beam provided metal web is galvanically connected.
Lauffeld tubes with a delay line are known in which a coupling waveguide runs inside the tube from the end of the tube on the receiver side parallel to the delay line to its cathode-side end and is coupled there to the delay line. A known coupling device in such a tunnel tube is that a longitudinal web is provided in the hollow pipeline with a height increasing towards the coupling point and that this longitudinal web is galvanically connected to a metal web arranged parallel to the end face of the delay line. The metal bar deflects the electromagnetic wave from the coupling waveguide into the delay line or vice versa.
The delay line is formed from a waveguide in which transverse webs are arranged alternately on opposite wall parts at equal distances one behind the other. The first of these transverse webs on the cathode-side end of the delay line represents the metal web deflecting the electromagnetic wave and is connected to the longitudinal web in the hollow pipeline for this purpose. Both the hollow pipeline and the delay line are open to the cathode space, so that the disadvantage of this coupling device is the risk of exciting parasitic resonances in the space between the electron beam generation system and the delay line.
In order to avoid the described disadvantage in a tunnel tube of the type described at the beginning, it is proposed according to the invention that the metal web be arranged and shaped in a closed waveguide section into which the hollow pipe with the longitudinal web opens at a right angle at the cathode-side end of the delay line is that the metal web of the face of the delay line over the middle area of the face and. is more closely approximated in the area of the edge which is formed between the waveguide section and the hollow pipeline than in the space between these two areas.
As is known per se from German Auslegeschrift No. 1102290, a Lauffeldtube according to the invention can be produced particularly easily and precisely with a delay line composed of laminated sheet metal sections. The coupling between the hollow pipeline and the delay line is very broadband. It can be z. B. achieve an adjustment of greater than 0.8 over 4/5 of an octave.
Further features of the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the embodiment shown in the drawing. It includes all parts that are not essential for understanding the invention

contribute, omitted. It shows: FIG. 1 a longitudinal section through the cathode-side end of the interaction arrangement of a running field tube according to the invention, and FIG. 2 a section along the line A-B of FIG.
The delay line 1, which consists of a waveguide in which transverse webs are arranged alternately on opposite wall parts at equal intervals, is composed of several types of sheet metal cutting that form the characteristic cross-sections of the delay line. Additional openings are provided in the correspondingly large-sized sheets, which are located outside the effective area of the actual delay line 1 and are congruent one behind the other when the individual sheets are stacked, so that a hollow pipe 2 results parallel to the delay line. The openings and thus the hollow pipeline 2 preferably have a rectangular cross section. In the hollow pipe 2 is a longitudinal web 3, for.
B. in the form of a stamped part, used, the height of which increases steadily towards the end face of the delay line 1. The end of the hollow pipeline 2 should be metal-sealed towards the cathode space (on the left in the plane of the drawing).
A metal web 4, which faces the end face of the hollow pipeline 2 and is arranged in a closed waveguide section 5, is galvanically connected to the longitudinal web 3. In order to achieve a smooth transition between the hollow pipeline 2 and the waveguide section 5, the metal web 4 is beveled towards the edge that is formed between the hollow pipeline 2 and the waveguide section 5. To the Middle

The line is so closely approximated that it forms a short line section with a very low wave resistance.
In series with this low-resistance line section is a short-circuited line section of high impedance formed in the waveguide section 5, so that overall in the gap between the first transverse web 7 and the metal web 4 a very low impedance is effective, which practically represents a short circuit over a wide frequency band. In this way, a very broadband coupling is obtained between the waveguide section 5 or the hollow pipeline 2 and the delay line 1.
The metal web 4 has an opening 6 for the electron beam to pass through. To protect the first sheet metal of the delay line 1 from impinging beam electrons, the opening 6 advantageously has a slightly smaller diameter than the diameter of the openings 8, which are provided in the individual transverse webs 7 of the delay line 1 for the passage of electrons.
The waveguide section 5 is produced in that a metal disk 9 is attached to the end face of the delay line and has a corresponding rectangular opening. After the longitudinal web 3 and the metal web 4 have been soldered in, the waveguide section 5 is closed by a further metal disk 10, which closes the interaction arrangement of the tube towards the cathode space.
The invention is important both for amplifier tubes in which the input signal is coupled into the cathode-side end of the delay line and for generator tubes in which the high-frequency waves generated are coupled out of the delay line on the cathode side. Furthermore, the invention is not restricted to the example shown. In particular, the metal web 4 does not have to have rectilinear edges, but can also be indented along a curved line between the central area of the end face of the delay line and the edge formed between the hollow pipeline and the waveguide section.
