<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

According to a further step of the invention, the ribs on the inside of the crankcase are inclined in such a way that their upper side with a horizontal plane in section perpendicular to
Wall surface. includes an acute angle and is inclined towards the wall surface and in section parallel to the wall surface includes an acute angle with a horizontal plane. This has the advantage that the ribs form fillets with the wall, in which the oil collects as close to the wall as possible, and in which the oil slowly flows down along the ribs. It can be particularly expedient here for the ribs to be interrupted and arranged offset from one another so that the oil drips from one rib to the other.
In a further embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, the ribs in the wall surface of the cover are arranged at least approximately vertically and are hollow and their cavities are each connected at one end, preferably at the upper end, to an at least approximately horizontally extending cooling air supply duct and are connected to the lower end with the free ambient air in connection.
Such an embodiment results in a particularly large cooling surface, the air being guided intensively along the cooling surface in a particularly advantageous manner.
In the drawing, four exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are shown partially in section. Fig. 1 shows a section through the cylinder longitudinal axis of a crankcase with a cover fitted with ribs. Fig. 2 shows the arrangement of the cover on the internal combustion engine in side view.
FIG. 3 shows another embodiment of a cover offset with ribs, and FIG. 4 shows another embodiment of the ribs. Fig. 5 shows a side view of a particular embodiment of the cover. FIG. 6 shows a vertical section through the cover according to FIG. 5 and FIG. 7 shows a horizontal section through the cover according to FIG. 5.
In FIG. 1, the crankcase is designated by 1 and the cylinder 2 is placed on the crankcase 1. The crankshaft 3 is mounted in the crankcase 1 and connected to the piston 5 via the connecting rod 4. The crankcase 1 has a lateral opening 6 which is connected by a cover 7. is closed. The cover 7 has ribs 8 on the inside of the crankcase and ribs 9 on the outside of the crankcase. An air guide cover 10 is placed over the cover 7 and guides the air flow generated by a fan (not shown in the drawing) along the cooling fins 9 through the flow channel 11. When the crankshaft 3 revolves, oil is thrown onto the ribs 8 by this, which oil collects in the spaces 12.
Fig. 2 shows the side elevation of an internal combustion engine with the crankcase 1, the cylinders 5a and 5b and a flywheel housing 13, which is designed simultaneously and in connection with the flywheel to generate the cooling air flow to be conducted via the housing guide 14 to the cylinders 5a and 5b . From the housing 13 is over. the opening 15 removed a partial flow of the cooling air flow and guided into the cooling air flow channel located under the cover 10, from which the air can exit through the opening 16. The cover 7 is in turn attached to the side of the crankcase and serves as a heat exchange surface between the crankcase interior on the one hand and the cooling air flow on the other.
In the cover shown in section in FIG. 3, the heat exchange surface 18 and the wall 17 of the air duct consist of one piece, with the ribs 8 and 9 being placed on the heat exchange surface 18. The ribs 8, which are located on the inside of the crankcase, are inclined in such a way that oil dripping onto the upper side of the ribs 8 flows towards the heat exchange surface 18 as a result of the inclination. A fan 13 guides the cooling air flow via a nozzle 15 into the channel 11, which is delimited on the one hand by the wall 17 and on the other hand by the heat exchange surface 18 and into which the cooling fins 9 protrude.
4 shows an arrangement of cooling fins 8 on a heat exchange surface 19, the cooling fins 8 being inclined in such a way that oil dripping onto these cooling fins 8 runs down along the cooling fins 8 and drips down from a cooling fin at the end to one below.
In the cooling device shown in FIGS. 5, 6 and 7, the cover 21 closes the opening in the crankcase. A cooling air duct 11 is guided along the upper outer side of the cover 21. Bulges 23 protrude into the inside of the crankcase, the interiors 22 of which are in communication with the cooling air duct 11 and which have openings 24 at their lower end through which the air can escape into the open. The cooling air flow is therefore brought to the rooms 22 through the channel 11, through which the individual partial flows of the cooling air flow flow from top to bottom and are thereby intensively guided past the walls 23. The cooling air flow then leaves the rooms 21 through the openings 24.
