Process for the production of binders.
The subject of the patent is a process for the production of an adhesive from natural or synthetic resins, plasticizers and such amounts of an aqueous adhesive that the water forms the disperse phase in the finished binder. The known adhesives of this type have always been produced using vaporizable organic solvents such as ethyl acetate, acetone or the like, which must first evaporate in the finished mixture before the adhesive can develop its full adhesive strength. In addition, the connections made with these adhesives can no longer be broken.
It is also known that adhesives based on rubber milk can be produced by mixing the aqueous rubber dispersion with a rubber solvent and effecting the phase inversion by adding precipitants. These adhesives, too, can only be used once to create a solid connection.
Compared to these known processes, the object of the patented process is to create an adhesive that maintains its tack and adhesive strength over a large temperature range and for a long time, so that the parts held together by it can be separated and reunited at will. According to the subject matter of the present patent, a permanent adhesive which meets these requirements and is characterized by good adhesive strength with low tack is obtained when small amounts of water-in-resin emulsion produced in a known manner from resin, plasticizers and ammonia water Latex can be dispersed.
A small amount of water mixed with an alkaline substance, such as ammonia, can be emulsified in a softened resin mixture so that the water forms the absorbed agent, whereupon the rubber component in the form of an aqueous latex dispersion is evenly added to the mixture. The final mixture retains the character of a water-oil emulsion and, because of this property and its consistency, has certain practical advantages, namely with regard to applicability and sprayability.
The resinous material used to make the mixture can be any fusible natural or synthetic resin, or it can be made of rubber, copal or shellac which have resinous properties.
Here are some examples of binders produced in accordance with the patent:
Example 1: 60 parts by weight of powdered or comminuted rosin are mixed with 21 parts by weight of castor oil and the mixture is heated to 120 ° C. until a homogeneous mass is obtained. This homogeneous mass is cooled to 90-95 ° C. and 17-5 parts by weight of an aqueous solution of 1 part by weight of ammonia with a specific weight of 0.890 are slowly added with constant stirring. It results in a creamy emulsion with water as the emulsified agent. This emulsion is cooled to 50-60 ° C. and 2 parts by weight of 60% strength latex are added with stirring. The latex goes completely into dispersion and the mixture retains its character as an emulsion with water as the absorbed agent.
Example 2: 30 parts by weight of oleic acid and 60 parts by weight of tree resin are heated together to 120 ° C. until a homogeneous mixture is formed, which is allowed to cool to 90-95 ° C. before further treatment.

1 part by weight of ammonia with. specific gravity 0.890 is mixed with 22 parts by weight of water and the dilute ammonia solution is stirred into the resin-oleic acid mixture at 90-95 C. Stirring must be continued until a creamy emulsion forms. 1 part by weight of 60% latex is then stirred into the emulsion.
The adhesive obtained in this way can be used immediately. If it is allowed to cool, it is expediently heated to around 60 ° C. before further use.
Example: 3: 30 parts by weight of tree resin and 10 parts by weight of resin oil are heated together to about 120 ° C. until a liquid, completely homogeneous mass is formed. This is allowed to cool to 950 ° C., whereupon 15 parts by weight of an aqueous solution of 1 part by weight of ammonia with a specific weight of 0.890 are added intermittently in small amounts with constant stirring or beating. An emulsion is formed with water as the absorbed agent, which, after cooling to 50-60 ° C., is added to 1 part by weight of 60% latex with constant stirring to form the desired adhesive.
Example 4: 30 parts by weight of colophony and 10 parts by weight of a mineral oil with a boiling point above 3005 C: are heated together to a little above 100 C until they are completely dissolved. After cooling to 95.degree. C., 15 parts by weight of an aqueous solution of 2 parts by weight of ammonia with a specific gravity of 0.890 are slowly added with stirring. The resulting emulsion with water as the absorbed agent is cooled to 600 ° C. and 1 part by weight of 60% latex is stirred in. The stirring continues until a uniform mixture results, which forms the adhesive.
EXAMPLE 5 A phenol-formaldehyde resin is produced from 50 parts by weight of phenol, 50 parts by weight of a 40% strength formaldehyde solution and 5 parts by weight of concentrated hydrochloric acid by heating until an exothermic reaction begins. To moderate the reaction, the mixture is then cooled, but this is allowed to continue until a viscous syrupy

plastic mass kneaded in warm water and dried in the air or by careful heating.
20 parts by weight of this resin are dissolved in 30 parts by weight of warm alcohol and the solution is stirred into 60 parts by weight of castor oil at 60.degree. The temperature was then brought to 80-90 C until the alcohol has practically evaporated.
16 parts by weight of an aqueous ammonia solution of concentrated ammonia with a specific gravity of 0.890 and the same amount of water are then stirred in until an emulsion forms with water as the absorbed agent. To complete the adhesive, 2 parts by weight of 60% latex are then added to the emulsion with stirring.
The adhesive can be used immediately. If you let it cool down, it is advisable to warm it up before use.
