Dry box for gravure paper taps.
For drying gravure paper webs, drying drums have become known on which the paper web is guided and which are heated from the inside. In addition, a sheet metal wall is arranged around the drying drum to guide heated drying air along the paper web. With this arrangement, the heated dry air was passed through the dry air duct at a relatively low speed, because hot air was used for drying. The distance between the outer guide wall of the drying air and the drying drum could therefore be chosen to be relatively large in the interest of drawing in the paper web.
The drying of the gravure web with the help of higher temperatures turned out to be disadvantageous because, in addition to the liquefying agent of the ink, the moisture contained in the paper also evaporated; the paper therefore became dry, rough, and brittle; the rotogravure forms were worn out and there were also registration problems. It was therefore suggested that fresh air, i.e. H. with unheated air to dry. However, this initially impaired the drying effect. It was now suggested that the blown air m: t

a drying box along the paper web, the height of which was no more than about 4-12 mm.
Experiments have shown that on the one hand the drying effect of this arrangement was the more favorable the longer one made the distance in which one led the air in an uninterrupted course along the paper web and on the other hand the warning that the air was closed in this way saturate strongly with liquid vapors and would therefore be unsuitable for drying, was unfounded. This drying box was initially designed in the form of a flat curve, because the use of guide drums in the manner of the heating drums mentioned at the beginning presented difficulties insofar as drawing the paper web over guide drums with such narrow drying channels did not appear to be very possible.
Drying boxes in the form of a flat curve, however, have the disadvantage that the paper web has to be pressed against its base with a relatively high level of tension, since otherwise it will begin to flutter and hit due to the high air speed.
The invention is based on the task of creating a drying box, the bottom of which forms a drum serving only to guide the paper web or the paper web itself and the top of which forms a sheet metal wall running in the same direction as the distance between the guide drum and the small distance mentioned, and which is constructed in such a way that on the one hand it guides the drying air around almost the entire circumference of the drying drum, but on the other hand it also allows the paper web to be drawn into the drying box without great difficulty.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in such a way that the ceiling of the dry air duct consists of two mutually sealed halves that can be folded down relative to the guide drum, one of which can be pivoted around the axis of the air supply duct, the other around the axis of the air discharge duct, which like the Air supply duct opens into the drying box on the side.
In the invention, the drum over which the paper web is passed serves only to guide the paper and has the advantage over the aforementioned heating drums which work with internal heating that it can be made much lighter than this and therefore does not need a special drive .
The drawing shows an embodiment of the invention in section.

drum 4 around this the sheet metal wall consisting of the two halves 5 and 6 is guided, which forms the ceiling of the drying air duct, the bottom of which is formed by the guide drum 4 or the paper web 1. The drying air is fed to the duct 7 through the guide tube 8 arranged on the side of the drying box and is discharged from the drying duct 7 again through the guide tube 9.
One half 5 of the ceiling of the drying air duct 7 can now be swiveled around the axis of the air supply pipe 8, as well as the other half 6 around the axis of the air discharge pipe 9. The two halves 5 and 6 thereby move into the position shown in dash-dotted lines in which the paper web can be easily drawn in. In operation, the two halves 5 and 6 are folded against the guide drum 4, one of them, for. B. half 6 overlaps the other at point 10.
The two halves 5 and 6 are sealed against each other in such a way that, together with the guide drum 4 or the paper web 1, they form a completely closed drying air duct 7 of low height, which encompasses the circumference of the guide drum 4 as far as it does looking back paper feed is possible. A very considerable part of the heat contained in the dry air can therefore be used to evaporate the color liquefying agent; the drying device works with a high degree of efficiency.
