Schornstein fiir Dampflokomotiven.

Chimney for steam locomotives.
The mixture of flue gas and steam emerging from the chimney of a locomotive is strongly deflected from the vertical by the air flow due to the driving speed, creating additional resistance. This is particularly evident at higher driving speeds, where the driving speed is of the order of magnitude of the speed of the incoming mixture.
According to the concept of the invention, this cbelstand is eliminated in that the axis of the chimney is inclined in the direction of travel. The front wind of the locomotive is to be caught in the largest possible area by means of a LenkMech system and guided in the form of a jet in the axis of the chimney so that the blowpipe effect is supported. For vehicles that should drive in both directions, such as B. in steam railcars, two chimneys are advantageously designed with two blowpipes and the direction of travel is employed, because a rotation of the blowpipe and the chimney is less appropriate given the difficult vacuum seal and the pollution in the company.
One embodiment is shown in elevation in FIG. 1, in plan view in FIG. 2 and in cross-sectional view in FIG. 3. 1 means the boiler with the dome: 2, the flue gases emerge from the flue pipes into the smoke chamber 3 liUS. The exhaust steam from the cylinders passes through the pipe 4 to the blower pipe 5. The flue gases are reversed in the direction of the chimney axis with as little resistance as possible. For this purpose, the front wall is designed according to the streamlines; the surfaces 6 are expediently formed by inserts in the smoke chamber lower part 7, the surface 8 is designed as a door and enables access to the tube surface.
The surface 9 as the upper part of the smoke chamber is designed in such a way that it merges into the chimney without any particular resistance to the smoke gases. The chimney 11 can either, as drawn, cylindrical or z. B. be flat shaped with advantage if there is not enough space in height. The head wind of the locomotive is

upper guide 11, the two side guides 12 and the lower guide. M, which extends as far down as possible and is intended to absorb as much of the headwind as possible. The sheets 11, 12 and 1: 3 together result in a large nozzle, which has its narrowest cross section at the mouth of the chimney 10 and widens again behind it.
The axis of this large nozzle and the axis of the chimney should coincide in the area of the mouth of the chimney. The sheets. M are extended backwards in such a way that any protrusions in the boiler are covered and that the gas mixture is safely guided upwards in the approximate direction of the chimney axis. As before, the superheater 14 is located in the smoke chamber: the chimney is pushed forward accordingly to enable it to be removed upwards. The part of the smoke chamber lying above the lower limit M of the nozzle guide is shaped on the outside so that the head wind has as little resistance as possible.
In the embodiment shown, the sheet 16 and 8 is arranged as a cladding at the front, the part 8 of the sheet lying in front of the smoke chamber door being connected to the door. The smoke chamber itself has a fully cylindrical shape from the pipe wall to the superheater in the version shown. In addition, the cylinder is through the sheet 1:; cut off towards the top and the smoke chamber flows reversely into the chimney. For better flue gas guidance, the space between the superheater and the upper end of the sheet 1: covered by the guide 15.
The chimney 10 is free. so that it is washed over from all sides by the wind.

and 10 'with two blow pipes 5 and 5', which are arranged to the right and left of the boiler means. Advantageously, the supply lines of the exhaust steam to the blowpipes are connected directly to the cylinders on the relevant side without prior association. The arrangement of the air nozzle is adapted to the changed length.

direction of the corresponding chimney and fixed there.
But more appropriate is the drawn version, in which two blowpipes and. and J 'are arranged, which can be switched on by a flap or a switching element 18, corresponding to the respective direction of travel.
The chimneys are provided with flaps 19 or 19 'or similar devices, one of which is open while the second is closed. wherein the flaps have a streamlined shape in the closed state. The actuation of the two chimney flaps and the blowpipe switchover is advantageously coupled by a rod and lever system 20, so that one handle is sufficient for the entire switchover. The steering plate system 21 in Fig. 6 is completely symmetrical in this case
EMI2.3
Steering plate system can be omitted.
Of course, other embodiments of the inventive concept are also possible. so z. B. in locomotives with advantage with the driver's cab, with the in the

rooms can serve as storage space.
