Fig. l).

Method and device for avoiding the voltage rise in the event of a complete
Mercury rectifiers are idling.
It is known that when using suction choke coils in rectifier systems, a voltage reduction of approximately 14% of the no-load DC voltage occurs in an interval from the complete idling of the rectifier to the critical current. The resulting increase in voltage at
EMI1.1
Current intensity corresponds to operation of the rectifier with a reduced number of phases, while the DC voltage corresponds to the entire number of phases when completely idling.
The invention now consists in avoiding the voltage increase when a sliding rectifier is completely idle using this knowledge by making some of the phases of the rectifier feed transformer for the rectifier operation ineffective for the rectifier operation when the load falls below the critical load, so that no load is below the critical current Tension
EMI1.2
The anodes assigned to making phases are provided with control grids, which are connected to a negative voltage by relays depending on the load, which is supplied by any direct current source.
In the drawing, in Fig. 1, an embodiment of the invention is shown schematically on a six-phase rectifier. Fig. 2 shows a special design of the control relay for the anode grid. The rectifier a is fed from a secondary transformer which is split into two three-phase systems c, d and whose star points are connected by the suction throttle b. The anodes of the rectifier fed from the secondary transformer system d are provided with control grids e. These grids e are parallel across resistors to the negative pole of the battery f. r is the control relay for the anode grids and w is the resistor for setting the response current of the relay.
When the rectifier is de-energized, the armature of the relay r bridges the contacts g in the control circuit of the anode grid and the latter are connected to the negative pole of the battery f. When the rectifier is started, the relay r responds and opens the control line of the anode grid, so that all anodes assigned to the six phases are in operation as long as the rectifier is fully loaded (see Fig. 1).
If, on the other hand, the load falls below the critical load, the relay r drops its armature, whereby the control circuit for the anode grid is closed and the anodes provided with grid are rendered ineffective by applying the negative voltage of the battery. The rectifier is then only operated with three anodes until the relay r interrupts the control circuit for the anode grid again as the load increases.
With this arrangement the relay r must have a high sensitivity, i. H. it must be dimensioned for the size of the continuous current, but must respond at around Vioo of this value. This condition leads to abnormal relay designs. However, the same purpose can be achieved by combining several relays into one step relay, as shown in FIG.
The excitation windings of the control relays r1 to 1'4 for the anode grid e are connected in parallel, their regulating resistors

Relays 1'2 to 1'4 also contain the contact pairs h2 to h4, which are connected in series and connect the excitation coils of the relays ri to r4.
Assuming now that the rectifier is idling, i. H. that its load is below the critical load, the armatures of all relays have dropped out and all contacts gl

are ineffective because their grids are connected to the negative voltage of the battery / *. As the load increases, does the one with the lowest resistance speak first? 1 provided relay 1 ″ r and opens the contacts gl in the control circuit of the anode grid, whereby the negative control voltage is switched off from the anodes.
If the current permissible for rl is exceeded, 1'2 responds, which switches off the excitation coil of relay rl by opening contacts h2 and at the same time interrupts the control circuit for the anode grid by opening contacts g2, so that the closing of contacts gl does not occur more energized relay r can be done without damage. The other relays ra. 1'1 come into effect in the same way, one relay always switching off the previous one and keeping the control circuit for the anode grid open.
The use of a step relay offers the advantage that the actual control relay 11 does not need to be designed for a load corresponding to the full load current, but only for a fraction of the same, and that the necessary sensitivity can be reduced to any degree by increasing the number of relay steps .
The device according to the invention can easily be used for other rectifier systems. B. in a six-phase rectifier four phases can be made ineffective, while two phases remain in operation if the critical load is not reached: the device can also be used for rectifiers with a different number of phases.
