Abstract
La invencion se refiere a un aro de piston de metal pulverizado y a un método para formar dicho aro. Este ultimo incluye una estructura predominantementede perlita, con una dispersion de partículas metálicas teniendo un elemento con una afinidadalta con nitrogeno. El aro es nitrificado para formar una capa desuperficie dura en una periferia exterior del anillo. La capa incluye una primera region nitrificada de hierro y una region adyacente teniendo una dureza mayora causa de una reaccionentre el nitrogeno y las partículas metálicas. Las partículas metálicas preferidas incluyen una aleacion de acero alta en cromo queforma parte del polvo de metal original del aro de piston. El método consta de la mezcla de un polvo con partículasmetálicas , prensar y sinterizar el polvopara formar una estructura con una dispersion de partículas metálicas, maquinar el anillo y nitrificar formando una capa de superficie sobre una periferiaexterior.
