Abstract

El presente invento se refiere a un método para procesar una composición de minerales sulfurados que comprende al menos parcialmente un mineral quecontiene hierro, comprendiendo el método los pasos de: (a) moler dicha composición hastaun tamano de partícula de Psc por 20 micrones o menos; (b)lixiviar dicha composición con una solución que comprende ácido sulfúrico e iones férricos a presión ambiente mientras se rocía con un gas que contieneoxígeno en un reactor de tanqueabierto a una temperatura de hasta aproximadamente el punto de ebullición de la solución, con lo cual por lo menosparte del ácido y por lo menos parte de los iones férricos son obtenidos de la disolución del mineral que contienehierro, y los iones ferrosos generados porla reacción de lixiviación son reoxidados substancialmente a iones férricos en la solución lixiviadora; (c) precipitar el exceso de hierro y separar dichohierro junto con cualesquiera materiales sólidosde la solución lixiviadora; (d) extraer iones metálicos deseados de la solución lixiviadora medianteextracción con solvente con un solvente orgánico, para que el refinado comprenda ácido sulfúrico e iones férricos; (e) hacer retornar elrefinado altanqu e de lixiviación y mezclar con composición molida adicional; (f) separar los metales de la fase orgánica obtenida en el paso (c) depurando conelectrolito y efectuando extracción electrolítica.
