Screw cap :
The invention relates to a screw cap of plastics material having a cap disc and an outer cap edge with inner thread joining at right angles to the outer circumference of the cap disc for closing a filling and/or discharge nozzle of a container for transportation and for storage of liquids as well as with a central bung nozzle having an inner thread and arranged countersunk in the cap disc for screwing in a bung plug.
A screw cap of the generic type known from the EP 0 650 446 B1 for closing the filling nozzle of a bung barrel or of a plastics inner container of a pallet container with an outer jacket of lattice rods or sheet metal . - has the disadvantage that the sealing ring for sealing the bung plug in the bung nozzle of the screw cap, due to ageing effects of the manufacturing material of the sealing ring in particular with containers for transportation and for storage of chemical liquids, with time cannot provide the tightness of the bung plug closure so that the sealing ring has to be replaced regularly.
The invention has as object to improve a cost-favourable manufacture as well as a reduction of the operational costs of the liquid container provided with the screw cap, which container is used as returnable container, regarding an improved tightness effect of the bung plug closure.
According to the invention, a screw cap of plastics material having a cap disc and an outer cap edge with inner thread joining at right angles to the outer circumference of the cap disc for closing a filling and/or discharge nozzle of a container for transportation and for storage of liquids as well as with a central bung nozzle having an-inner thread and arranged countersunk in the cap disc for screwing in a bung plug, is characterized thereby that the bung plug has a cylindrical screw-in sleeve with an outer thread for screwing into the threaded bore of the bung nozzle of the lid as well as a sealing end, which is provided with a conical multiple seal, which is constituted by sealing rings which, when the bung plug is screwed-in, are pressed against a conical inner sealing surface of a sealing projection joining onto the threaded bore of the : ‘bung nozzle of the screw cap. :
The screw cap may have four sealing rings formed onto the sealing end of the screw-in sleeve of the bung plug spaced apart by means of grooves, which rings are arranged concentrically to the plug longitudinal axis and of which the diameter decreases in screw-in direction of the bung plug corresponding to the conical inner sealing surface of the sealing projection of the bung nozzle of the screw cap.
The sealing rings may have a rounded off sealing edge.
The bung plug may have an integrated pressure release arrangement.
The bung plug may have an integrated pressure release and aeration arrangement.
The cap and the bung plug may be produced as injection moulded parts of plastics material.
Also according to the invention a screw cap of plastics material having a cap disc and an outer cap edge with inner thread joining at right angles to the outer circumference of the cap disc for closing a filling and/or discharge nozzle of a container for transportation and for storage of liquids as well as with a central bung nozzle having an inner thread and arranged countersunk in the cap disc for screwing in a bung plug, is characterized thereby that the bung plug has a cylindrical screw-in sleeve with outer thread for screwing into the threaded bore of the bung nozzle of the cap as well as having a sealing end, which is provided with a sealing ring formed integrally therewith, which ring has a rounded sealing ring, which, when the bung plug is screwed in, presses against a conical inner sealing surface of a sealing projection joining onto threaded bore of the bung nozzle of the screw cap.
Yet further according to the invention, a screw cap of plastics material having a cap disc and an outer cap edge with inner thread joining at right angles to the outer circumference of the cap disc for closing a filling and/or discharge nozzle of a container for transportation and for storage of liquids as well as with a central bung nozzle having an inner thread and arranged countersunk in the cap disc for screwing in a bung plug, is characterized thereby that the bung plug has a cylindrical screw-in sleeve with an outer thread for screwing into a threaded bore of the bung nozzle of the cap as well as with a sealing end, which is provided with a conical sealing edge which, with screwed-in bung plug, is pressed against a conical inner sealing surface of a sealing projection joining onto the threaded bore of the bung nozzle of the screw cap.
The screw cap in accordance with the invention with a bung nozzle, which is provided with a bung nozzle closure, is characterized by the following advantages:

The provision to the plastics bung plug for closure of the bung nozzle of the screw lid with an injection moulded conical multiple seal in the form of spaced apart sealing rings, which are pressed, when the bung plug is : screwed in, against a conical inner sealing surface of the bung nozzle, allows an optimum tightness of the bung nozzle closure. In the case of containers having an internal pressure the tightness of the bung nozzle closure for the bung nozzle of the screw lid is further improved thereby that the pressing pressure of the sealing ring caused by screwing in the bung plug against the conical inner sealing surface of the bung nozzle is additionally increased by way of the internal pressure on the sealing end of the screw-in sleeve of the bung plug provided by the multiple seal on the inner wall. The manufacturing costs and the maintenance costs for liquid containers, which are provided with a screw cap with the new bung plug closure for the bung nozzle of the cap and being used as returnable containers, can be decreased considerably due to the omission of a sealing ring, which has to be exchanged regularly.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying schematic drawings.
In the drawings there is shown in:
Figure 1 a longitudinal sectional representation of a screw cap with a central bung nozzle, which is closed by way of a bung plug, and
Figure 2 an enlarged detail representation of the screw cap according to Figure 1, and
Figures 3 and 4 enlarged detail representations of two further embodiments of the screw cap.
The screw cap 1, produced as injection moulded part of plastics material, has a flat cap disc 2, an outer cap edge 3 joining at right angles to the cap disc circumference with inner thread 4 for closing a filling and/or discharging nozzle of a container for transportation and storage of liquids as well as an inner edge 5. The inner edge 5 is arranged. concentrically. to the outer cap edge 3, forms with this a sealing bed 6 for insertion of a sealing ring for sealing the screw cap 1 on the upper edge of the filling and/or discharge nozzle of the liquid container and serves for stiffening as well as for improved seating of a. the screw cap on the container nozzle.
In the cap disc 2 a central bung nozzie 7 is arranged countersunk, which is closable by means of a bung nozzie 8 produced as injection moulded part of plastics material.
The bung plug 8 is provided with a cylindrical screw-in sleeve 9 with an outer thread 10 for screwing into the threaded bore 11 of the bung nozzle 7 of the screw cap 1. The screw-in sleeve 9 of the bung nozzle plug 8 has a sealing end 12 onto which a conical multiple seal 13 is formed, which is constituted by four sealing rings 14 with a rounded sealing edge 14a, which sealing rings are arranged spaced apart and concentrically to the nozzle longitudinal axis 16-16 by grooves 15 and of which grooves the diameter 17 decreases in screw-in direction a of the bung plug 8.
When the bung plug 8 is screwed in, the sealing rings 14 of the conical multiple seal 13 are pressed at the sealing end 12 of the bung plug 8 against an associated conical inner sealing surface 18 of a sealing projection 19 joining onto the threaded bore 11 of the bung nozzle 7 of the screw cap 1.
In a further embodiment form of the screw cap 1 a pressure release arrangement or a pressure release and aeration arrangement is oo integrated in the bung plug 7. © For filling a single container by way of the bung nozzle 7 of the screw cap 1 screwed onto the filling nozzle of the container, the bung plug 8 is screwed manually out by way of a bung key from the bung nozzle 7 of the screw cap 1 and a pump is joined to the bung nozzle. In automatic filling plants the bung plugs 7 are screwed mechanically out of the screw cap 1 when filling a number of containers by way of the '10 bung nozzle 7 of the screw cap screwed onto the container filling nozzle
The bung plug 8 of a further embodiment shown in Figure 3 of the : screw cap has a cylindrical screw-in sleeve 9 with an outer thread 10 for screwing into the threaded bore 11 of the bung nozzie 7 of the cap "15 1 as well as with a sealing end 12, which is provided with sealing ring 14 integrally formed therewith, which ring has a rounded sealing edge 14a, which, with the bung plug 8 being screwed in, is pressed against a conical inner sealing surface 18 of a sealing projection 19 joining onto ‘the threaded bore 11 of the bung nozzle 7 of the screw cap 1.
The bung plug 8 of a further embodiment of the screw cap shown in
Figure 4 has a cylindrical screw in sleeve 9 with an outer thread 10 for screwing into the threaded bore 11 of the bung nozzle 7 of the cap 1 as well as with a sealing end 12, which is provided with a conical sealing edge 20, which, when the bung plug 8 is screwed in, is pressed against a conical inner sealing surface 18 of a sealing projection 19 joining onto the threaded bore 11 of the bung nozzle 7 of the screw cap 1.

Claims (9)
1. Screw cap of plastics material having a cap disc and an outer cap edge with inner thread joining at right angles to the outer circumference of the cap disc for closing a filling and/or discharge nozzle of a container for transportation and for storage of liquids as well as with a central bung nozzle having an inner thread and arranged countersunk in the cap disc for screwing in a bung plug, characterized thereby that the bung plug (8) has a cylindrical screw-in sieeve (9) with an outer thread (10) for screwing into ~ the threaded bore (11) of the bung nozzie (7) of the lid (1) as well as a sealing end (12), which is provided with a conical multiple seal (13), which is constituted by sealing rings (14) which, when the bung plug (8) is screwed-in, are pressed against a conical inner sealing surface (18) of a sealing projection (19) joining onto the threaded bore (11) of the bung nozzle (7) of the screw cap (1).
2. Screw cap according to claim 1, characterized by four sealing rings (14) formed onto the sealing end (12) of the screw-in sleeve (9) of the bung plug (8) spaced apart by means of grooves (15), which rings are arranged concentrically to the plug longitudinal axis (16-16) and of which the diameter (17) decreases in screw-in direction (a) of the bung plug (8) corresponding to the conical inner sealing surface (18) of the sealing projection (19) of the bung nozzle (7) of the screw cap
(1).
3. Screw cap according to claim 2, characterized thereby that the sealing rings (14) have a rounded off sealing edge (14a).
4, Screw cap according to one of the claims 1 to 3, characterized by a bung plug (8) with an integrated pressure release : arrangement.
5. - Screw cap according to one of the claims 1 to 3, characterized by a bung plug (8) with an integrated pressure release and aeration arrangement.
6. Screw cap according to one of the claims 1 to 5, characterized thereby that the cap (1) and the bung plug (8) are produced as : injection moulded parts of plastics material.

Screw cap of plastics material having a cap disc and an outer cap edge with inner thread joining at right angles to the outer circumference of the cap disc for closing a filling and/or discharge nozzle of a container for transportation and for storage of liquids as well as with a central bung nozzle having an inner thread and arranged countersunk in the cap disc for screwing in a bung plug, characterized thereby that the bung plug (8) has a cylindrical screw-in sleeve (9) with outer thread (10) for screwing into the threaded bore (11) of the bung nozzle (7) of the cap (1) as well as having a sealing end (12), which is provided with a sealing ring (14) formed integrally therewith, which ring has a rounded sealing ring (14a), which, when the bung plug (8) is screwed in, presses against a conical inner sealing surface (18) of a sealing projection (19) joining onto threaded bore (11) of the bung nozzle (7) of the screw cap.
8. Screw cap of plastics material having a cap disc and an outer cap edge with inner thread joining at right angles to the outer circumference of the cap disc for closing a filling and/or discharge nozzle of a container for transportation and for storage of liquids as well as with a central bung nozzle having an inner thread and arranged countersunk in the cap disc for screwing in a bung plug, characterized thereby that the bung plug (8) has a cylindrical screw-in sleeve (9) with an outer thread (10) for screwing into a threaded bore (11) of the bung nozzle (7) of the cap (1) as well as with a sealing end (12), which is provided with a conical sealing edge (20) which, with screwed-in bung plug (8), is pressed against a conical inner sealing surface (18) of a sealing projection (19) joining onto the threaded bore (11) of the bung nozzle (7) of the screw cap (1).
