The closest in technical essence are MODULAR GRAVITATIONAL ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS [US2021336478 (A1) - 2021-10-28], which consider new designs and improved methods for constructing and operating a gravitational energy storage device. This device can also be called a gravitational battery or a gravitational potential energy storage device. These modules can maximize their mass using weight containers consisting of any heavy medium such as water, rock, metal, concrete, compacted earth, etc. The present invention includes such designs and design optimizations that can achieve such scale . Additional design elements optimize this system for maximum performance.
The technical problem of the prototype is its design, which is formed from separate vertical modular frames that do not provide sufficient strength to the structure as a whole, especially its horizontal elements. The use of an underground shaft, as proposed in the prototype, greatly limits the number of modules through which energy is accumulated due to the limited volume of the shaft; the spring as a retainer does not ensure the strength of the entire vertical structure, but only its parts.
The objective of the invention is to eliminate the shortcomings of the prototype.
The technical result of the invention is to minimize energy losses while saving energy both during accumulation and release.

4. The gravitational storage device for electrical energy (Fig. 1) contains a set of vertical posts 1, forming cells, with a square or rectangular cross-section when viewed from above (Fig. 2), made, as an option, from pipe concrete, or from another economically feasible type of material. Each cell has its own independent load 2 mounted. The vertical posts 1 are connected to each other by cross beams 3 to impart rigidity to the structure. Electric motor-generators 4 are located on the roof of the structure and provide lifting/lowering of an independent load 2, which is connected by means of a sling 5 to lifting and lowering mechanisms 6 located on the roof directly above the cell itself. In this case, all lifting and lowering mechanisms of cells of one row are connected by a common shaft 7, driven by an electric motor-generator 4.
The invention is used as follows
The gravitational storage device for electrical energy is based on the well-known principle of accumulating electrical energy by lifting heavy loads - when there is an excess of electricity in the network, the system is charged by lifting the loads to a height with electric motors; when there is a shortage of electricity in the network, electricity is supplied by lowering the loads and bringing them into action of generators.
The structure is a set of vertical posts 1, the cross-section of the cells when viewed from above is square or rectangular, fastened together by cross beams 3 to impart rigidity to the structure. Each cell contains an independent load 2. Specific characteristics - height, distances, sections, weight of the load and the total number of cells with load - are selected depending on the terrain and the required power and storage capacity. The structure is placed on the foundation. The foundation is piled or otherwise, depending on the geological features of the area. The base is a sand cushion, which will allow you to lower loads without braking and not lose efficiency. Electric motors- generators 4 are located on the roof of the structure and combine up to several rows of cells, providing the possibility of step-by-step operation of different rows or even individual cells, thereby regulating the output power.
When the load is raised to the maximum (full charge), it is mechanically fixed at a height due to retractable bolts at the corners of the cell (not shown in the figure), after which the system can store the accumulated energy indefinitely, without loss of efficiency. Also, depending on the required power and configuration, it is possible to connect with a common shaft 7 all the cells of one row, or several, by installing several independent shafts in one row and, accordingly, several independent electric motors-generators 4 on each of the shafts. Thus, depending on the number of cells and the weight of the cargo in it, it will be possible to design installations with different minimum output power at a time. The floor on the roof of the installation is supposed to be made of a continuous mesh covering, for convenient movement of maintenance personnel and at the same time to reduce wind load and the unhindered passage of rainwater.
The technical result - minimizing energy losses while saving energy both during accumulation and release is achieved due to the fact that the gravitational storage device for electrical energy contains a set of vertical posts forming cells with a square or rectangular cross-section when viewed from above; each cell has its own independent load, vertical posts are interconnected by cross beams to impart rigidity to the structure, electric motors-generators are located on the roof of the structure and provide lifting and lowering of an independent load, which is connected by means of a sling to lifting and lowering mechanisms located on the roof directly above the cell itself, while all lifting mechanisms of cells of one row are connected by a common shaft driven by an electric motor-generator, which allows:
- обеспечить регулирование необходимой мощности без потери КПД, путем поднимания (зарядки) или опускания (разрядки) от одного до всех грузов единовременно; - ensure regulation of the required power without loss of efficiency, by raising (charging) or lowering (discharging) from one to all loads at the same time;
- каждый груз в отдельности имеет собственную систему подъема и спуска, что обеспечивает более высокую КПД; - each individual load has its own lifting and lowering system, which ensures higher efficiency;
- using a combination of independent cells for each load and racks, gives the highest efficiency of its kind (95%, losses 2% on the electric motor and 3% on the generator), and the cost of construction is comparable to the construction of industrial batteries using chemical elements.
Examples of achieving technical results
Currently, chemical storage devices are mainly used to store electricity. Compared to gravitational ones, storage devices based on chemical elements have the following disadvantages.
1. Service life. The effective service life of chemical electrical energy storage devices, with daily use, is up to 8 years, with an annual decrease in efficiency of up to 30%. Moreover, the cost of the batteries themselves is up to 80% of the cost of all costs for the construction of such a storage device. The service life of this invention is limited only by the service life of the metal in the open air, which, if properly processed, will be up to 50-70 years without loss of efficiency throughout the entire service life.
2. Dependence on the external environment. Traditional chemical energy storage devices are highly dependent on the external temperature; with strong heating or cooling, they can lose up to half of their efficiency, and accordingly, such installations require additional energy to cool or heat the working room, which also leads to a loss of efficiency and additional operating costs. External factors do not in any way affect this invention; it is capable of operating with constant efficiency in any weather.
3. Capital costs. With a comparable cost of construction of modern industrial energy storage devices based on chemical elements and this invention. In the first case, the owner will have to invest up to 80% of the initial money in modernization every 8 years, but in the case of introducing an invention, there are no such regular costs in such volumes.
Experiments conducted with gravitational storage devices are regularly carried out in various countries. For example, in Europe an experiment was carried out with one large load in a mine, where the change in power occurs due to braking, which leads to a loss of efficiency, or in the USA (an electric locomotive with stones) where the power either cannot be changed, or only due to braking, which leads to loss of efficiency. In Russia, in Novosibirsk, the storage prototype has one lifting mechanism for all blocks and, accordingly, there is a loss of energy to move this mechanism idle between blocks. Similarly, the prototype in India in the form of construction cranes loses efficiency during idle descent, and also significantly loses efficiency when lifting the first blocks to a small height. All the shortcomings of these technical implementations are eliminated in the proposed gravitational electrical energy storage device.
