Description

A SELF POWER GENERATING ELECTRIC VEHICLE
FIELD OF INVENTION
[001] The present invention generally relates to a field of electric vehicles, more particularly to a self-power generating electric vehicle having capability to recharge its rechargeable batteries.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[002] A demand for electrically propelled vehicles has increased exponentially over a past few decades due to high demand and soaring prices of the fuels obtained from natural resources. Hybrid vehicles are in a very high demand these days as these type of vehicles besides obviating the need for fossil fuels, helps to abate pollution by eliminating or minimizing noxious emissions. Pure electrical vehicles, being completely pollution free, are a boon to human race. Many electrical vehicles are available in the market; however, they are quite expensive. Conventional electric vehicles depend upon various types of batteries for propulsion. Diverse types of batteries are also known in the art. Lead acid batteries are quite common in electric vehicles. Though such batteries are safe and reliable, these have low cycle life and poor cold-temperature performance. Further, recycling of such batteries is a major concern. Numerous control circuits and recharging systems are also known. Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries are rechargeable batteries and are preferred over non-rechargeable batteries.
[003] Typical electric vehicles have numerous limitations relating to battery usage. The rechargeable batteries loose charge holding capacity over a period of time. Generally, the rechargeable batteries require replacement every 15-20 years. Further, repetitive battery recharging is one vexatious requirement for electric vehicles. Without periodic and substantial battery recharging, vehicle operation and battery life are severely compromised. There has been surge in research work on recharging solutions and numerous solutions are already in place in the current times. For example, vehicle batteries may be recharged at the recharging stations proximate to home or parking facilities of the user. Regenerative braking systems, which reverse motor and generator functions during braking to generate a recharging current from energy that would otherwise be lost, are common as well. In recent times supercapacitors/ultracapacitors have gained popularity because of their capacity to store energy and ability to release the store energy as and when required. [004] Other recharging approaches involve solar panels that provide an effective trickle charge, but are insufficient for propulsion. Other ancillary and auxiliary devices also exist that recapture energy, especially during movement, for recharging. Some approaches use wind energy for driving turbines or generators from high velocity air as the vehicles moves. Popular hybrid vehicles combine electrical engines with relatively small internal combustion motors that can recharge batteries. Still large amount of electricity is powered by coal and other natural source which is used in recharging stations.
[005] In the existing art, there exists some electric vehicles that has a feature of battery charging while it’s moving. The US publication US20100006351 discloses an electrically powered vehicle that is recharged and self-energized during travel by apparatus interconnecting drive wheels with generators. Preferably, gear means are provided through mechanical rotation of the vehicle wheels to drive ancillary generators for recharging current. However, this publication doesn’t provide feature of charging the vehicle when it is not moving i.e. when it is parked.
[006] In view of the above problems associated with the state of the art, there is a need of a self- power generating electric vehicle that can produces electric energy when vehicle is moving as well as when vehicle is parked.
OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION
[007] The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a self power generating electric vehicle.
[008] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a self power generating electric vehicle that produces electric energy when vehicle is moving.
[009] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a self power generating electric vehicle that produces electric energy when vehicle is parked. [0010] Yet another objective of the present invention is to provide a self power generating electric vehicle that has at least three power batteries which can be charged and used alternatively.
[0011] Other objectives and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein, by way of illustration and example, the aspects of the present invention are disclosed.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

[0016] Figure 4 shows the gear system of the self-power generating electric vehicle.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0017] The present invention relates to a self-power generating electric vehicle having capability to recharge its rechargeable batteries. The rechargeable batteries of the disclosed vehicle can be recharged when vehicle is moving as well as when vehicle is parked. The vehicle comprises of a permanent magnet mounted on one or more wheel rim, an armature with coil installed within the wheel rim, a gear system provided to vary RPM value, at least one electrical motor, a battery system with at least two rechargeable battery. The wheel rotation, rotates the wheel rim which in turn rotates the armature between the poles of the permanent magnet. This results in change of the flux linkage of the armature which induces EMF in the armature to generate electrical energy. When vehicle is parked, the wheel is made free to rotate by using hydraulic lift and rotated by electric motor. Further, a gear system increases the electric motor RPM value from low to high to increase the speed of the rotating field and hence to increase the generated electrical energy.

[0022] It should be emphasized that the term “comprises/comprising” when used in this specification is taken to specify the presence of stated features, integers, steps, or components but does not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, integers, steps, components, or groups thereof.
[0023] The present invention discloses a self power generating electric vehicle which can generate power or electricity on its own to recharge its rechargeable batteries. In accordance with the main embodiment of the present invention, the power in electric vehicle is generated while vehicle is moving and also when the vehicle is parked. Hence, the invention provides a coherent electricity powered vehicle system that can recharge itself while in operation as well as while in parking, with minimal inputs of energy from external sources.
[0024] The self power generating electric vehicle comprises of a battery system with at least two rechargeable batteries to store the self-generated power, a gear system to increase the RPM value, at least one electrical motor and an AC generator mounted on the wheel rim of the plurality of wheels of vehicle. The electrical energy produced by the AC generator is stored in plurality of batteries in battery system where each battery can be charged when discharged. Alternatively, the electrical energy can also be directly provided to the electric motor of the electric vehicle. The plurality of electrical batteries are selected from but not limited to a lead acid battery, lithium-ion battery, nickel-cadmium battery, and nickel metal hydride battery.
[0025] The embodiments of the present invention are described in detail with reference to figures 1 to 4. Figure 1 shows the rim of one of the wheel of self-power generating electric vehicle. As shown in figure 1, the wheel rim includes a permanent magnet 01 mounted on the wheel rim, an armature 02 with coil which is installed within the wheel rim 03. Figure la shows the rim structure while figure 1 b shows internal view of the wheel rim when it is connected to axle. The wheel rim has bearings 18 to reduce friction when wheel is moving. Further, an axle is directly connected to the wheel rim via a direct connection 19. The wheel rim of figure 1 can be used in electric vehicles which is selected from but not limited to a two wheeler, four wheeler or in heavy duty vehicles like six wheeler or eight wheeler. [0026] In a preferred embodiment a four wheeler vehicle is considered as shown in figure 2 and the wheel rim of figure 1 is attached at the back wheel 7 of the vehicle. The front wheels 4 and the back wheels 7 are driven by the axle 17. And, the axle 17 of the back wheels 7 is connected to the gear system 10 which is further connected to the electric motor 8. The electric motor 8 receives power from a battery system 14 through its output unit 11. The power supplied by the battery system is DC Power, hence an inverter 09 is used to convert the DC power to AC power before supplying it to the motor 8. The inverter 09 also control the AC power frequency thus controlling the motor 8 speed. Moreover, the inverter 09 can even vary the amplitude of the AC Power and charge the battery through AC Power input unit 12.
[0027] In accordance with the present invention, the gear system (10), the Wheel Rim and the Armature collectively act as an AC generator which generates power in the self-power generating electric vehicle. The rotation of motor rotates the wheel rim which in turn rotates the armature of the wheel. When the armature rotates between the poles of the magnet upon an axis perpendicular to the magnetic field, the flux linkage of the armature changes continuously due to which EMF induces in the armature. Further, the gear system as shown in figure 4 increases the electric motor RPM value from low to high which increase the speed of the rotating field and same will reflect to generator. Hence, the generator receives high RPM rotation in result of low RPM from electrical motor. The generated EMF depends on the number of armature coil turns magnetic field strength and the speed of the rotating field. A basic electromagnetic generator has a series of insulated coils of wire that form a stationary cylinder, called a stator which surrounds an electromagnetic shaft, called a rotor. Turning the rotor makes an electric current flow in each section of the wire coil, which becomes a separate electric conductor. The currents in the individual sections combine to form one large current.
[0028] In an embodiment, the gear is designed with gear ratio of 1 :2 or 1 :3 to allow wheel speed of 2 or 3 times more than the Motor RPM speed. Therefore, even at low frequency, more RPM speed in wheel and power output from wheel rim generator is added to the battery from both wheels. Similarly, all four wheels can also be used as power generator for EV. The transmission of high RPM to one or more generators results in producing large electric current, therefore multiple batteries can be charged and simultaneously one set of battery can provide power for the use of the motors.
[0029] Power generation when vehicle is in motion: The EV motor drives the electric vehicle and simultaneously charges the storage battery from the AC Generator incorporated in the vehicle’s wheels. Considering the previously described embodiments, the rotation of motor rotates the wheel rim which in turn rotates the armature of the wheel which induces EMF in the armature. Also the generator receives high RPM rotation due to gear system which generates large current. Therefore, the vehicle battery which is subdivided into three or more stages can be charged simultaneously by the AC generator and then can be used as an alternate power source. The multiple stages in battery prevents charging & discharging impact on single part of the battery. Hence, when one stage of the battery is involved in running the vehicle, another will be charged by the AC generator. In an exemplary embodiment, the vehicle battery is subdivided into four parts wherein one battery is used at a time for running the vehicle and simultaneously, the other batteries which have been discharged are charged by the AC generator when vehicle is moving.
[0030] Power generation when vehicle is parked:
When the vehicle is parked in parking zone as shown in figure 3, then it is charged by two ways: Using hydraulic lift as shown in figure 3a: In this embodiment, the vehicle is lifted by using hydraulic lift which is installed in vehicle back chassis to make its back wheel free to rotate or spin in air. If the battery has some percentage of power left then it facilitates lifting of hydraulic lift to lift the back wheel in air. Then the inverter 09 with reduced value of voltage and frequency powers the electric motor 08 to run at low RPM speed. The low RPM speed is then increased by the gear system 10 to High RPM speed which will transfer to axle of wheel 07 and armature 02 with coil which is installed in between the wheel rim 03 where permanent magnet is installed. This generates EMF which results in generation of sufficient electric current by the generators to fulfill the power demands of the vehicle systems. Hence, the wheel rotates and the power is generated by the AC generator. The electricity produces by the generators will be stored in this battery system 14. As soon the battery charged full it power off the motor 08 and Hydraulic Lift 05 and bring back the car in normal mode. Using lifting handle as shown in figure 3b: This embodiment is preferred in case of emergency when the power in the battery is not sufficient to lift the hydraulic lift. According to this embodiment, the vehicle is provide a handle that is manually operated to rotate the outer side of wheel 03 in complete 360 degrees so that the armature with coil spin in between the permanent magnet to produce the EMF and which directly produce the electricity and store in battery system 14.
[0031] In an embodiment, the self power generating electric vehicle is installed with sets of mic and speaker to allow the passengers or driver to talk to outside people without opening the window glasses. In a preferred embodiment, one set of mic and speaker is installed inside the electric vehicle and another set is installed outside the electric vehicle. Further during the warning situations, the electric vehicle automatically locks itself and a warning or an emergency message can also be sent to a nearby police station or emergency center for further help. The warning situations can be a case when someone tries to forcefully open the glass or try to harm the electric vehicle.
[0032] While this invention has been described in connection with what is presently considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiments, but, on the contrary, is intended to cover various modifications and equivalent arrangements included within the scope of the appended claims.
