Abstract

The present invention relates to a display screen installed in a car as an alternative to the dashboard. The screen is installed in the place of the dashboard or in the steering wheel to display variables that were previously displayed on the car dashboard, such as speed, distance, temperature and fuel level, and to control electrical loads, such as lights, indicators, the horn, central locking, windows, and similar. It is also possible to control the screen through touch instead of switches, while retaining the switches, and to display the statuses of same. How the variables and loads are displayed on the screen can be controlled through settings. When the status of a variable is not normal or required, the driver's attention is called to same, the variable being enlarged on the screen and the other variables minimised or removed from the display, along with a written text on the screen giving the status, and sound from a speaker. GPS services are added to warn of road problems before they are reached. An alert is given when a certain distance is travelled, if the driver so requests, and the distance between two points is measured, oil change recommended, and routes saved. Although the steering wheel is rotatable and the screen rotates with same, the image displayed on the screen does not rotate, because a tilt sensor is used to measure the tilt angle of the steering wheel and then redraw the image.
