Description

Washing agent dispensing device for a dishwashing machine
The present invention relates to a dispensing device for dispensing at least one washing agent, for instance in powder or tablet form, or the like, to be mounted to a sheet-like panel which faces a washing chamber of a dishwashing machine.
More specifically, the present invention relates to a dispensing device comprising a body intended to be mounted in an opening of the wall and comprising a front face and a peripheral surface, said dispensing device having sealing means extending around the body and in- tended to engage an edge of said opening.
Dispensing devices are known, whose body protrudes from a wall delimiting the washing chamber. One object of the present invention is to provide an alternative configuration for a dispensing device for dispensing at least one washing agent.
This and other objects are achieved according to the invention with a dispensing device of the type initially specified, characterised in that the body of the dispensing device is config- ured in such a way as that, in mounted condition, at least a peripheral portion of the front face of the body is flush with a surface portion of the wall surrounding the opening.
Further features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description, which is given purely by way of a non-limiting example, with reference to the attached drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a front, perspective view of a dispensing device according to the present invention, mounted to a panel;
Figure 2 is an exploded view showing the panel and the dispensing device of Figure l ;
- Figure 3 is a perspective, sectioned view of the dispensing device mounted to the panel;
Figure 4 is a sectioned view of the dispensing device mounted to the panel; and Figure 5 is an enlarged view of a detail indicated with A in Figure 4.
In the drawings, the reference number 1 indicates the whole of an integrated dispensing device including a dispenser of washing agent or detergent according to the present invention.
In a per se known manner, such an integrated dispensing device 1 is intended to be fixed to a sheet-like panel W intended to form at least a portion of an inner wall of a door delimiting a washing chamber WC of a dishwashing machine. The panel W is typically made of sheet metal.
Although the attached drawings show an integrated dispensing device also comprising a dispenser of rinse agent or rinse aid, the present invention is not limited to the embodiment of the washing agent dispenser in a form in which it is integrated with such a further dispenser of rinse agent.
The integrated dispensing device comprises a support body 2, made for instance of a plastic material, intended to be mounted in a corresponding opening provided in the panel W of the door of a dishwashing machine, said panel facing the washing chamber WC. The body 2 can be made in two parts, for instance with a main front part and an auxiliary rear part, both made by injection moulding and subsequently interconnected and heat- welded. The rear part may also be made of a material which is at least partially transparent.
In the body 2 there can be formed a receptacle intended to contain an amount of washing agent or detergent, in powder or tablet form, or other forms. To the receptacle there can be associated a cover, which can assume, in a per se known manner, a closed position and an open position. According to alternative embodiments, in the body 2 there can be formed a tank suitable for liquid detergent agent which would be filled and refilled by a user and then dosed during washing cycle in certain quantity. Similar configurations can be adopted for the receptacle/tank intended to receive the rinsing agent.
In the embodiments in which a movable cover is provided, the cover can be a pivoting cover, a sliding cover or a cover having any other kind of motion.
In a per se known manner, devices and circuits (not shown) provided to control operation of the dispensing device are housed within the body 2. Such devices include electrical actuators such as for example coil actuators, SMA actuators or wax actuators.
Turing to the body 2 of the dispensing device 1, it is mounted in an opening G formed in the panel W, and shown in Figure 2. In the example of embodiment shown the opening G is essentially rectangular. Correspondingly, the body 2 of the dispensing device 1 is essentially rectangular in cross section.
The body 2 comprises an at least partially flat front face 3, intended to face the washing chamber WC, and a peripheral surface 4 connected to the perimeter of the front face 3. The front face 3 is flat in at least a peripheral portion 3a extending over the perimeter thereof, i.e. at least the peripheral portion 3a of the front face 3 lies in a plane. The front face 3 may include protruding or recessing features such as buttons, handles and other small elements. Therefore, a front-rear direction orthogonal to the front face 3 and a lateral direction orthogonal to the front-rear direction can be defined. The flatness requirement is referred to a condition in which any cover of the detergent chamber and, possibly, rinse aid is closed. Of course, covers of detergent chamber and rinse aid can protrude while open or during opening.
On the peripheral surface 4 of the body 2 a gasket 5 is arranged. The gasket 5 extend around the body 2 and is intended to engage an edge of the opening G. In the embodiment shown, the gasket 5 is fitted in a groove 5a formed on the peripheral surface 4 of the body 2 and protrude outwardly in the lateral direction from the peripheral surface 4. In other embodiments, the groove can be arranged on a peripheral formation protruding from the peripheral surface 4, and the groove can protrude in the front-rear direction from this peripheral formation. The gasket 5 comprises a lateral sealing surface 5b and a front sealing surface 5c intended to engage the edge of the opening G. As shown in Figure 5, the lateral sealing surface 5b extends in the front-rear direction and the front sealing surface 5c extends in a direction inclined (or, possibly, orthogonal) to the lateral sealing surface 5b.
In other, less-preferred embodiments, a plurality of gaskets can be provided in place of the single gasket 5.
As shown in Figure 5, at least the peripheral portion 3 a of the front face 3 of the body 2 is flush with (at least) a surface portion Wa of the wall W surrounding the opening G.
The edge of the opening G comprises a flange Wb extending from the panel W in a direction orthogonal (or, possibly, inclined) to the surface portion Wa of the wall W surrounding the opening G. In the embodiment shown in the Figures, the flange Wb comprises a first portion Wb' extending in the front-rear direction and engaged in a lateral direction by the lateral sealing surface 5b of the gasket 5, and a second portion Wb" inclined to the first portion Wb' and engaged in a front-rear direction by the front sealing surface 5c of the gasket 5. According to other, less-preferred embodiments, the sealing direction can be in the front- rear direction only, or in the lateral direction only.
In the embodiment of the Figures, the dispensing device is assembled to the panel W from the rear side thereof, i.e. from the side of the panel intended to face away from the washing chamber WC, as is more clearly shown in Figure 2. In alternative embodiments, the dispensing device can be assembled to the panel W from the front side thereof, i.e. from the side of the panel intended to face the washing chamber.
Fixing of the device 1 to the panel W is performed by fixing the body 2 in one of the various manners known per se. In the embodiment shown by way of example in the Figures this is achieved by means of a plurality of resilient ears Wc which extend from the flange Wb and are able to snap-engage over and against corresponding retaining projections 4a provided along the peripheral surface 4 of the body 2. Alternatively, fixing can be performed by screwing.
Clearly, provided that the principle of the invention is retained, the forms of construction and the details of embodiment can be varied widely from what has been described herein purely by way of a non-limiting example, without thereby departing from the scope of the invention as defined by the attached claims.
