Description
The present invention relates to water dispensing unit for a refrigerator having a self-locking nozzle valve.
It is well-known that water dispensing units of refrigerators operate such that when the user presses a button controlling the flow of water by for example the rim of a cup, they can get their desired amount of water via a nozzle placed beneath said button. When the user removed the rim of the cup from the button, the flow of water is cut off. In the present art, nozzle units cannot be grouped due to assembly difficulties and therefore require use of connecting elements during assembly. For this reason, the nozzle unit cannot provide tight coupling during operational fluid flow and also cannot be detached from the water dispensing unit, rendering it very difficult to perform maintenance. Due to the tight fit of the nozzle unit, assembly may get more difficult and time consuming depending on the size of the nozzle used. Time consuming assembly process leads to high labor and production costs. These costs increase in proportion to the rise in demand for refrigerators having a water dispensing unit.
Among others, a prior art publication in the technical field of the invention may be referred to as WO2009157644A2, which discloses a refrigerator, including a dispenser mounted to a door, a nozzle mounted to the dispenser for discharging water to an outside of the dispenser, and a residual water preventive unit, such as a check valve, mounted close to the nozzle for preventing residual water from dropping, thereby preventing residual water from being dropped from a nozzle of a dispenser in the door of the refrigerator. Other examples may be referred to as DE102005057163A1, US2016243509A1, CN202119187U and KR20090043992A.
The present invention, on the other hand, addresses the situation where the nozzle unit present in refrigerators having a water dispensing unit to ensure the user can get the desired amount of water can be assembled in a time-efficient manner.
To this end, the present invention provides a nozzle unit comprising movable member having bidirectional teeth that allows easy assembly and disassembly of the components of the nozzle unit and easy removal of the nozzle unit from the water dispensing unit by the user.
The present invention provides a water dispensing unit for a refrigerator having a self-locking nozzle valve, as provided by the characterizing features defined in Claim 1.

The present invention proposes a water dispensing unit (7) for a refrigerator (1) having a nozzle unit (11) whereby components of said nozzle unit (11) are easily assembled and disassembled and said nozzle unit (11) is easily removable from the water dispensing unit (7) by the user.
Water dispensing unit (7) is offered as an additional feature on a refrigerator (1). On a fresh food door (2) of a refrigerator (1) having shelves (5), there is provided a water storage shelf (8). The user can obtain cold water using the nozzle unit (11) connected to said water storage shelf (8).
Figure 1 illustrates a refrigerator (1) comprising a freezer door (3) and a fresh food door (2) having shelves (5) and a water dispensing unit (7). Figures 2 and 3 illustrate a fresh food door (2) of a refrigerator (1) having shelves (5), water dispensing unit (7) and button unit (6). The latter button unit (6) typically provides passage for cold water to fill a cup (4). Figures 2 and 3 also illustrates the cup (4) by which the user can fill water from said water dispensing unit (7).
Figures 4 and 5 illustrate said water dispensing unit (7) comprising water storage shelf (8), water storage shelf cover (9), water dispenser support means (10) and nozzle unit (11). Nozzle unit (11) is practically attached to water dispensing unit (7) by screwing the same into said water storage shelf (8) as will be delineated hereinafter.
Figures 6, 7 and 8 illustrate the nozzle unit (11) of said water dispensing unit (7). Nozzle unit (11) comprises a threaded body (12), seal (13), O-ring (14), nozzle valve (15), leak proofing seal (16), water dispenser storage spring (17), movable member (18) and bidirectional teeth (19).
According to the present invention, leak proofing seal (16) and nozzle valve (15) are attached to movable member (18) by bidirectional teeth (19) on said nozzle valve (15) in order to secure them into threaded body (12). Therefore one locking mechanism allows for multiple components to be attached. Nozzle unit (11) can be easily detached from water dispensing unit (7) by applying force onto said bidirectional teeth (19) on said nozzle valve (15) in the opposite direction to the locking direction.
In accordance with the present invention, when said nozzle valve (15) is installed in said threaded body (12), the bidirectional teeth (19) of said nozzle valve (15) interlock with the end portion of the movable member (18) in an annularly distributed manner. Said bidirectional teeth (19) project out from an end portion of said nozzle valve (15) around an axial opening such that they are resiliently supported by longitudinally extending legs integral with said nozzle valve (15) body. To this end, said bidirectional teeth (19) at distal ends of said longitudinally extending legs can be resiliently displaced a limited amount in radial directions, which ensures that easy interlocking with the end portion of the movable member (18) can be obtained. Removal of the bidirectional teeth (19) from the movable member (18) allows release of said movable member (18) and hence the threaded body (12) can be also removed by rotating it.
In a nutshell, the present invention proposes a water dispensing unit (7) having a nozzle unit (11) being selectively operable to provide passage for cold water, said nozzle unit (11) comprising a threaded body (12) and a nozzle valve (15) installed in said threaded body (12) in connection with a movable member (18) axially movable relative to said threaded body (12) to discharge water from said water dispensing unit (7).
In one aspect of the present invention, said nozzle valve (15) comprises at least two bidirectional teeth (19) to engage in an interlocked position with an annular end portion of said movable member (18) in the manner that said nozzle valve (15) and said movable member (18) are releasably connected to displace together in an operational position of said nozzle unit (11).
In a further aspect of the present invention, said threaded body (12) enclosing said nozzle valve (15) and said movable member (18) in connection with the nozzle valve (15) is rotatably attachable to said water dispensing unit (7).
In a further aspect of the present invention, said bidirectional teeth (19) project out from an end portion of said nozzle valve (15) around an axial opening such that they are resiliently supported by longitudinally extending legs so as to be displaceable in radial directions.
In a further aspect of the present invention, said bidirectional teeth (19) at distal ends of said longitudinally extending legs are integral with said nozzle valve (15) body
In a further aspect of the present invention, said bidirectional teeth (19) are disposed in an annularly distributed manner.
In a further aspect of the present invention, a refrigerator comprising the water dispensing unit (7) is proposed.
In a further aspect of the present invention, said refrigerator (1) comprises a fresh food door (2) having a water dispensing unit (7) with a nozzle unit (11).
In a further aspect of the present invention, said water dispensing unit (7) is configured in the form of a water storage shelf (8) connected to said fresh food door (2).
Therefore, the present invention ensures that the nozzle units (11) can be grouped without assembly difficulties due to need for additional connecting elements during assembly. The nozzle unit (11) of the invention provides tight coupling during operational fluid flow and can be easily detached from the water dispensing unit (7), rendering it practical to perform maintenance, thereby avoiding time consuming assembly and/or maintenance process by high labor and production costs.
