Definitions
- the present invention relates to the technical field of materials based on epoxy polymers. More specifically, the invention relates to a new type of polymer material obtained by using an ionic liquid as crosslinking agent of a biosourced epoxy monomer and / or prepolymer optionally mixed with an original epoxy monomer and / or prepolymer. fossil.
- the invention also relates to a method of manufacturing said material and to its uses, in particular in the fields of aeronautics, aerospace, automobile, maritime, wind, electronics or in the field of sport and recreation.
- thermosetting materials have a three-dimensional structure formed by chemical bonds resulting from a polymerization reaction between a prepolymer, usually an epoxy resin, and a hardener which may be an amine, an acid anhydride, a phenol or an isocyanate. Under the effect of heat, that is to say by "cooking", the reaction of the prepolymer with the hardener results in a phenomenon of gelling and then vitrification, leading to a thermoset material which is infusible and insoluble.
- a prepolymer usually an epoxy resin
- a hardener which may be an amine, an acid anhydride, a phenol or an isocyanate.
- the reaction of the prepolymer with the hardener results in a phenomenon of gelling and then vitrification, leading to a thermoset material which is infusible and insoluble.
- Their mechanical properties and their thermal and chemical resistance have allowed thermosetting resins to find many applications, particularly in the aerospace and automotive industries.
- thermosetting resins may, however, be insufficient in some applications.
- a tetraalkylphosphonium dialkylphosphinate ionic liquid as a DGEBA-type epoxy prepolymer hardener (Livi et al., Polymer 54 (2013) 2123-2129, US 2009/0030158).
- the ionic liquid makes it possible to obtain a material having a thermal stability greater than that obtained using a diamine-type crosslinking agent with a polyether backbone. If the polymeric materials thus obtained are generally satisfactory, their barrier properties are not always sufficient for certain applications and especially when they are used as protective coatings of metal structures against corrosion or for the manufacture of parts used in the maritime industry .
- Biosourced epoxy polymers have already been described in the publication by M. Chrysanthos et al., Macromol. Mater. Eng., 298 (2013), 1209-1219. They are especially obtained by polymerization of epoxidized cardanol (NC-514 supplied by Cardolite) in the presence of a hardener consisting of a bio-sourced aromatic amine.
- Applicants have demonstrated that the barrier properties of epoxy materials made of ionic liquid-crosslinked DGEBA resins can be improved by substituting all or part of the DGEBA resin with a biosourced epoxy resin such as that described in this publication. -above. They have also demonstrated that this substitution made it possible, quite surprisingly, to increase the fracture toughness of the epoxy material, and thus to reduce the propagation of cracks in the material. Insofar as these cracks constitute channels of diffusion of water in the epoxy material, the increase in fracture toughness of the material also makes it possible to indirectly improve its barrier properties.
- the epoxy materials according to the invention also have improved thermal stability and better barrier properties, in particular a more pronounced hydrophobic character, compared to biosourced epoxy materials crosslinked with a (poly) amine.
- the subject of the invention is thus an epoxy material that can be obtained according to a process comprising the following steps:
- ionic liquids can be used as crosslinking agents of biosourced epoxy resins, used alone or in combination with epoxy resins of fossil origin, to obtain a combination of advantageous properties, namely good properties. barrier, especially with water, high fracture toughness and good thermal stability.
- epoxy resin means an epoxide monomer and / or an epoxy prepolymer.
- epoxy prepolymer means an oligomer or polymer comprising at least two epoxy terminal functions and which, by crosslinking, becomes infusible and insoluble to form a thermoset resin.
- biosourced is meant a product, in particular an epoxy resin, derived from raw materials of plant and / or animal origin, preferably vegetable.
- a product (especially an epoxy resin) "of fossil origin” is any product manufactured at least partially from organic compounds derived from petroleum or coal or from petroleum or coal derivatives.
- a product of biobased origin can be differentiated from a product synthesized from fossil raw materials by the methods described in ASTM D6866.
- the epoxy resins used according to the invention have at least two and at most four epoxide functions.
- the biosourced epoxy resin can be obtained, according to a first embodiment of the invention, from epichlorohydrin and a biosourced polyol. Epichlorohydrin can itself be obtained by chlorination of glycerol, which is a by-product of the transesterification of vegetable oils for the preparation of bio-diesel.
- the polyol may be any compound, or a mixture of compounds, having an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic structure.
- the biobased polyol can thus be a biosourced phenol-formaldehyde resin obtained by polymerization of cardanol with formaldehyde.
- Cardanol is a phenolic compound having a 15 carbon unsaturated side chain to the hydroxyl group, which can be obtained by vacuum distillation of cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL).
- the biobased polyol may be cardanol itself. In this case, it is preferred that its reaction with epichlorohydrin be followed by a step of reacting the product obtained with a peroxy acid.
- An epoxide prepolymer obtained from cardanol is especially available from CARDOLITE under the trade name NC-514. It has the following structure:
- the biosourced polyol may alternatively be a carbohydrate. It can thus be chosen from isosorbide, isomannide and isoidide, which are dianhydrohexitols derived from cereals. Isosorbide is preferred for use in the present invention. It is in particular available from Roquette Fromme under the trade name Polysorb P. Alternatively, the carbohydrate may be chosen from sucrose, maltitol and sorbitol.

- the biobased polyol may be the reaction product of wood powder with resorcinol, polyethylene glycol or glycerol, designated by "liquefied wood powder", or a polyphenol such as catechin, resulting for example from waste from the wood or wine industry, lignin from woody plants or diphenolic acid (DP A) derived from levulinic acid.
- the biosourced polyol may alternatively be glycerol.
- the biosourced polyol may also be a mixture of two or more of the compounds described above.
- the bio-based epoxy resin may be an epoxidized vegetable oil or the epoxidation product of a fatty acid sucrose ester derived from vegetable oil.
- the vegetable oils may be chosen in particular from soybean, flax, sunflower or castor oils. Epoxidized vegetable oils are sold especially by Arkema under the trade name Vikoflex.
- the bio-based epoxy resin can be obtained by alkylating with an unsaturated halide, followed by oxidation, a carbohydrate such as dianhydrohexitol, preferably isosorbide. It is thus possible to carry out (meth) allylation of the carbohydrate using a (meth) allyl halide, in particular methallyl chloride or allyl bromide, followed by epoxidation of the intermediate obtained in accordance with the invention. using a peracid, such as peracetic acid or meta-chloroperb enzoic acid.

a) on mélange au moins un monomère et/ou prépolymère époxyde biosourcé avec un agent réticulant comprenant, de préférence constitué par, au moins un liquide ionique et éventuellement avec au moins un monomère et/ou prépolymère époxyde d'origine fossile ;
DESCRIPTION DETAILLEE

la tension de surface de la phase non dispersive à savoir la phase polaire ;
la tension de surface de la phase dispersive à savoir la phase apolaire ;
