Abstract

Twin-tip kitesurf board (with symmetrical bow/stern) that is asymmetric longitudinally (two different side edges in shape and curvature) and where is possible to mount the straps bindings on either side edges to take advantage of different wind/sea conditions.

Description

TWIN-TIP KITESURF-BOARD WITH DUAL MODE USAGE
DESCRIPTION a) The invention refers to the realization of kitesurf twin-tip boards (boards to go with a kite, symmetrical fore and aft and where you navigate on one side only) with dual mode usage. b) In the existing technique there are light wind boards and strong wind boards. The firsts are characterized by straight side edges in front (outline) and a barely curved profile (scoop-rocker line) to have a more straight surface on which to plane in light wind conditions. The latter are characterized by curved side edges in front and a much more round profile curvature in order to reduce the wet surface when sailing with strong wind and wave. But light wind boards become very critical to control in strong winds, while strong wind boards don't plane and do not head upwind with little wind. In practice, at the moment, there isn't any board that goes well with both light and strong wind. To be able to go out always you need to have two boards.
c) The essential point of this patent is a kitesurf board with dual mode. Our board is longitudinally asymmetrical with the two side edges that have different shapes and curvatures both in front and in profile with double attachments or threaded bushings for mounting the foot straps and the damping pads on both sides of the board. (NB The board navigates always inclined, with one edge immersed in water and the other out of the water).
The light wind and/or flat sea side edge is like the one other light wind boards. In front (outtine) this edge (A in the drawing) is very straight or even just concave in the center for plenty of support surface when navigating with tilted board to improve upwind navigation with little wind. In profile (scoop-rocker) it is very straight to increase the planing surface with light wind.
The strong wind and/or rough sea side edge is like that of the other strong wind boards. In front (outline) the edge (B in the drawing) is more curved than the light wind side edge in order to reduce the wet surface and increase the speed with strong wind. Even the profile (scoop-rocker) is more rounded in order to decrease the wet surface to increase the strong wind control. Obviously, the profile line (scoop-rocker) is modified with solution of continuity from one edge to the other.
I especially skip all kinds of measures to allow me to make many different boards, those for children, not longer than one meter to those for big and heavy people and very light winds that can reach two meters. The same for the curvature radius which are different for the racing boards from the touristic ones.
Our patent of dual-mode kitesurf is based on a board with two different side edges and with the foot straps and relative damping pads which can alternatively be mounted on each of the two side edges. This can be accomplished in different ways, the easiest with a double threaded bushings on the board for tightening straps and pads on the edge by light wind (C in the drawing) or by strong wind on the edge (D in the drawing). Another way is with the straps integral with pads that are screwed on the side edge chosen for the wind condition.
d) The attached drawing shows our board in front, where you can see that the side edges are different, one is more straight for light wind (A) and one is more curved for strong wind (B) as described in point c). You may notice the external threaded bushings (C) to fix the foot straps to be used with light wind and external threaded bushings (D) to fix them with strong wind.
e) The various types of construction does not affect our patent. Our kitesurf can be realized as all other boards on the market, the shape can be done either by hand or with numerical control milling machine. The resin obtained either by hand or with the press and the mold and counter mold.

Claims

1) A twin-tip kitesurf board (with fore and aft symmetric) but longitudinally asymmetric with two lateral side edges having different shapes curvatures in the outline (front) and/or in the scoop-rocker-line (profile). The less rounded side edge (A) is more suitable to sail in light winds and calm seas, while the more rounded edge (B) is more suitable for sailing in strong winds and rough seas. On this board there are attachments or threaded bushings (C) for mounting the straps and the damping pads on the tight wind side edge and attachments or threaded bushings (D) for mounting the straps and the damping pads on the strong wind edge.
2) A twin-tip kitesurf board asymmetric longitudinally (according to claim 1) with a double threaded bushings (C and D) or with any other kind of attachments to mount the straps and the damping pads on either edges, regardless of the various uses that you want to have, tike a strong wind edge and a tight wind one or a touristic side edge and a more acrobatic one.
