Definitions
- the present invention relates to liquid manual dishwashing detergent compositions, which have improved viscous properties. Furthermore, the present invention relates to usage of such liquid manual dishwashing detergents for dish cleaning purposes and a process for cleaning dishes using liquid manual dishwashing detergent compositions according to the present invention.
- cleaning compositions such as hand dishwashing compositions are those that they should have a certain consistency or viscosity.
- the desired viscosity expected by the consumer, should not be too thin.
- the consumer desires viscous formulations allowing a controlled handling (providing good pourability and ease of dissolution in water). Also, the consumer associates viscous cleaning compositions with good performance and quality as well as with high levels of active ingredients.
- high viscous cleaning compositions areobtained by incorporating gums, polymeric thickeners and/or high levels of salts and/or active matter of surfactants into the cleaning compositions.
- This approach has the drawback that it negatively affects the formula costs while providing no benefit (apart from thickening).
- this approach is not sustainable, since cleaning formulations with high levels of polymeric thickeners and/or surfactants are under environmental aspects undesirable.
- aqueous cleaning composition in particular a hard-surface cleaning composition, which is highly viscous (jelly like) by means of a self- thickening system and which delivers improved cleaning performance (degreasing performance), lather performance (rapid generation of foam, stability of the foam) and solubility in water.

Description
"Liquid manual dishwashing detergent"
The present invention relates to liquid manual dishwashing detergent compositions, which have improved viscous properties. Furthermore, the present invention relates to usage of such liquid manual dishwashing detergents for dish cleaning purposes and a process for cleaning dishes using liquid manual dishwashing detergent compositions according to the present invention.
An important feature of cleaning compositions such as hand dishwashing compositions is that they should have a certain consistency or viscosity. The desired viscosity, expected by the consumer, should not be too thin. The consumer desires viscous formulations allowing a controlled handling (providing good pourability and ease of dissolution in water). Also, the consumer associates viscous cleaning compositions with good performance and quality as well as with high levels of active ingredients.
Usually, high viscous cleaning compositions areobtained by incorporating gums, polymeric thickeners and/or high levels of salts and/or active matter of surfactants into the cleaning compositions. This approach has the drawback that it negatively affects the formula costs while providing no benefit (apart from thickening). In addition, this approach is not sustainable, since cleaning formulations with high levels of polymeric thickeners and/or surfactants are under environmental aspects undesirable.
It is known in the art to formulate so-called self-thickened cleaning compositions where thickening is achieved without the use of polymeric thickeners. For instance, international patent publication WO 95/03302 discloses aqueous viscous compositions comprising an amine oxide or an amine, a secondary or primary monobranched alkyl sulfate or sulfonate, a hydrotrope and an organic acid and EP 0 839 898 discloses aqueous viscous compositions comprising linear alcohols and/or linear alkoxylated alcohols, a hydrotropic solvent and anionic surfactants.
However, there is still a need to provide self-thickened aqueous compositions with better performance in several respects including cleaning performance, in particular grease cleaning performance, and viscosity properties.
It is thus the object of the present invention to provide an aqueous cleaning composition, in particular a hard-surface cleaning composition, which is highly viscous (jelly like) by means of a self- thickening system and which delivers improved cleaning performance (degreasing performance), lather performance (rapid generation of foam, stability of the foam) and solubility in water.
The present invention solves this problem by providing, in a first aspect, a liquid dishwashing detergent composition, comprising:
a) at least one linear alkyi benzene sulfonate in an amount of 8 % to 12 % by weight of said liquid dishwashing detergent composition,
b) at least one fatty alcohol ether sulfate in an amount of 3 % to 4.5 % by weight of said liquid dishwashing detergent composition, and
c) at least one amphoteric surfactant, preferably betaine, in an amount of 3 % to 5.5 % by weight of said liquid dishwashing detergent composition.
In another aspect, the present invention also relates to the use of a liquid dishwashing detergent composition according to the present invention for the manual cleaning of dishes and kitchenware.
In yet another aspect, the present invention relates to a process for cleaning dishes or kitchenware comprising the use of a liquid detergent composition according to the present invention.
"Liquid", as used in the context of the present invention, comprises all kinds of flowable compositions, including gels and paste-like compositions. Furthermore, non-Newtonian liquids, which possess a yield point, are considered to be encompassed by said term.

Thus, preferred examples of these compounds are Na, K and/ or Mg salts of C10-16 fatty alcohol ether sulfates with 2 to 7 EO (k = 9-15, n = 2 - 7). More particularly, Na, K and/ or Mg salts of C12 fatty alcohol ether sulfates with 3 EO (k = 12, n = 3) are most preferred.
The liquid dishwashing detergent composition further comprises at least one amphoteric surfactant in an amount of 3 % to 5.5 % by weight of said liquid dishwashing detergent composition. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, this at least one amphoteric surfactant is present in an amount of 3.25 % to 4.5 % by weight of said liquid dishwashing detergent composition. Preferably, this at least one amphoteric surfactant is a betaine.
