Abstract

Embodiments relate generally to glovebox gloves comprising multiple handsizes. A giovebox glove may comprise a first hand comprising a first handsize, a second hand comprising a second handsize, and a cuff operable to attach to a port in the giovebox. The first hand and the second hand may attach to one another and to the cuff. Access to both of the hands may be allowed through the cuff. The first handsize may be different than the second handsize, wherein one of the first hand and the second hand is used at a time by a user. In some embodiments, the giovebox glove may comprise a plurality of hands comprising different handsizes.

BACKGROUND
[0004] Glovebox gloves may be installed into a glovebox and remain there for long periods of time, such as months, while one or more items are worked on within the glovebox. The interior of the glovebox may be isolated from the exterior of the glovebox, and replacement of the glovebox glove(s) may require that isolation to be broken, and therefore certain steps to be taken to ensure that the interior and/or exterior of the glovebox is not contaminated. Multiple workers may use a particular glovebox without being able to change the gloves attached to the glovebox.

[0005] Aspects of the disclosure may include embodiments of a glovebox glove (300) for use in a glovebox (600), the glove (300) comprising a first hand (320) comprising a first hand characteristic; a second hand (322) comprising a second hand characteristic; and a cuff (302) operable to attach to a port (602, 604) in the glovebox (600), wherein the first hand (320) and the second hand (322) attach to one another and to the cuff (302); access to both of the hands is allowed through the cuff (302); the first hand characteristic is different than the second hand characteristic; and one of the first hand (320) and the second hand (322) is used at a time by a user. [0025] Embodiments of the disclosure include a glovebox glove comprising a plurality of hands with different handsizes When multiple users are required to use a particular glovebox without being able to change the gloves attached to the glovebox, the handsize of the gloves may not fit each of the users well. This may hinder the work done by the users within the glovebox and compromise dexterity and comfort of the user.
[0026] Applicants propose a multiple handsize glovebox glove to be installed on a port of a glovebox, which would allow for having the correct size glovebox glove for work in the glovebox that is used by several people having different hand sizes without having to change out the glovebox glove. Having a multiple handsize glovebox glove installed on a single port of the glovebox may allow for optimum comfort and productivity in the glovebox without having to change out the glove, which may be time consuming and costly. Glovebox gloves may be used in industries such as pharmaceutical, nuclear (power, manufacture, research, and disposal), as well as research labs in industry and at universities.
[0027] Referring now to FIG.1, illustrates an exemplary glovebox 100 comprising a plurality of gloves 102 for accessing the interior 104 of the glovebox 100. The glovebox 100 may be used for completing work on items that need to be isolated from the environment. This may include work in industries such as pharmaceutical, nuclear (power, manufacture, research, and disposal), as well as research labs in industry and at universities. The glovebox 100 may comprise sets of gloves (such as a right glove and a left glove) at different positions on the glovebox 100 to allow access to different parts of the interior 104 of the glovebox 100. The gloves 102 may be attached to openings or ports 106 in the wall(s) 108 of the glovebox 100. The gloves 102 may seal with the port 106 to prevent cross contamination between the interior 104 of the glovebox 100 and the exterior environment.
[0028] FIG.2 illustrates an exemplary glove 202 that may be used in a glovebox (as described above). The glove 202 may be designed to provide protection to the user and also allow for dexterity for the user to work on items in the glovebox The glove 202 may comprise a sealing portion 210 around the edge of the glove 202 that may attach to a port of a glovebox (as described in FIG.1). In some embodiments, the glove 202 may be shaped to fit a right hand or a left hand of a user. In other embodiments, the glove 202 may be shaped to fit both the right and left hands of a user.
[0029] FIG.3 illustrates a multiple hand size glove 300 for use with a glovebox. The glove 300 may comprise multiple different handsizes attached to one opening. This may allow multiple users with different handsizes to work in the glovebox and use an appropriately sized glove, without having to replace the glove. The embodiment of FIG.3 shows a glove 300 comprising a first hand 320 and a second hand 322, wherein the first hand 320 has a first handsize and the second hand 322 has a second handsize. The handsizes of the two hands may be different from one another. The glove 300 may also comprise a cuff 302, wherein a portion 310 of the cuff 302 may be attached to the port of a glovebox (as described above). The two hands 320 and 322 may attach to the cuff 302, wherein access to both of the hands 320 and 322 is allowed through the cuff 302. In the embodiment shown, a user may choose to use one of the hands 320 and 322 based on the size that most closely fits the user’s hand.
[0030] In some embodiments, the glove 300 may be approximately 30-35 inches long. In some embodiments, the glove 300 may be up to 40 inches long. In some embodiments, the glove 300 may be approximately 30 inches long. In some embodiments, the glove 300 may be approximately 20 inches long. In some embodiments, the glove 300 may be approximately 10-15 inches long. The length of the glove 300 may depend on the user requirements and preference, and may be adjusted accordingly. In some embodiments, the cuff 302 of the glove 300 may comprise a diameter of between approximately 4 inches and approximately 16 inches. In some embodiments, the cuff 302 of the glove 300 may comprise a diameter of between approximately 8 inches and approximately 12 inches In some embodiments the cuff 302 of the glove 300 may comprise a diameter of between approximately 8 inches and approximately 10 inches. The diameter of the cuff 302 of the glove 300 may depend on the user requirements and preference, and may be adjusted accordingly.
[0031] In some embodiments, the attachment point 304 between the first and second hands 320 and 322 may be closer to the cuff 302 and attachment to the port than to the ends of the hands 320 and 322, which may allow for the extra hand that is not being used to be placed aside within the glovebox and not interfere with the work being done using the other hand. In some embodiments, the glove 300 may comprise a temporary attachment for the extra glove to be attached to the wall and/or floor of the glovebox, such as Velcro or a clip.
[0032] In some embodiments, the hands 320 and 322 of the glove 300 may comprise sizes ranging from handsize 7 to handsize 11. In some embodiments, the hands 320 and 322 may comprise sizes ranging from handsize 8.5 to handsize 10.5. The handsize chosen for each of the hands 320 and 322 may depend on the user requirements and preference, and may be adjusted accordingly. For example, specific users who will be using the glovebox may be measured to determine which handsize(s) are best suiting for those users. Additionally, a group of users may be measured to determine average handsizes, extreme handsizes, etc. to determine the handsize(s) chosen for the hands 320 and 322 of the glove 300.
[0033] In some embodiments, the glove 300 may comprise one or more polymer materials typically used in glovebox gloves. These materials may include one or more of the following: chlorosulfonated polyethylene synthetic rubber (CSM), neoprene rubber, nitrile rubber, natural rubber, butyl rubber, ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, and polyurethane, among other similar materials. Other material may include fluoropolymer materials such as polyvinylidene fluoride, and lead loaded polymers (which may be used for shielding in the nuclear processing industry). Other polymers or combination of various layers or mixture of polymers could also be used.
[0034] In some embodiments, the thickness of the glove 300 may be approximately 15 mils to approximately 30 mils (wherein mils are equal to thousands of an inch). The glove 300 may be formed using a dipping method, wherein a glove form (possibly porcelain) may be made for each variation of handsize combinations, and wherein the glove form may be dipped into the polymer material that will form the glove 300. In some embodiments, partial dips may be used to provide thicker material on certain parts of the glove 300, such as the finger portion, palm portion, full hand portion, etc. Each variation of handsize and number of hands 320 and 322 may require a separate form. In some embodiments, multiple forms may be dipped at a time into the same polymer material.
[0035] FIG.4 illustrates another embodiment of a glovebox glove 400 comprising three hands 420, 422, and 424, each comprising a different handsize. The glove 400 may comprise two, three, four, five, or more hands 420, 422, and 424, depending on the preferences and requirements of the user. The number of hands 420, 422, and 424 that may be available on a glove 400 may be limited by the application of use for the glove 400, wherein a large number of hands 420, 422, and 424 may require too much space within the glovebox and may not be practical.
[0036] The hands 420, 422, and 424 of the glove 400 may be similar to the hands 320 and 322 described in FIG.3. The embodiment of FIG.4 shows a glove 400 comprising a first hand 420, a second hand 422, and a third hand 424, wherein the first hand 420 has a first handsize, the second hand 422 has a second handsize, and the third hand 424 has a third handsize. The handsizes of the hands may be different from one another. The glove 400 may also comprise a cuff 402, wherein a portion 410 of the cuff 402 may be attached to the port of a glovebox (as described above). The hands 420 422 and 424 may attach to the cuff 402 wherein access to all of the hands 420, 422, and 424 is allowed through the cuff 402. In the embodiment shown, a user may choose to use one of the hands 420, 422, and 424 based on the size that most closely fits the user’s hand. In some embodiments, the attachment point 404 between the hands 420, 422, and 424 may be closer to the cuff 402 and attachment to the port than to the ends of the hands, which may allow for the extra hands that are not being used to be placed aside within the glovebox and not interfere with the work being done using the other hand.
[0037] FIG.5 illustrates another embodiment of a glovebox glove 500 comprising detachable hand portions 532 and 530. The glovebox glove 500 may comprise multiple sleeves 520 and 522, wherein multiple sizes of hands 530 and 532 may be attached to the sleeves 520 and 522. In some embodiments, the hands 530 and 532 may attach to the sleeves 520 and 522 via one or more rings 534 and 536. In this embodiments, the sleeves 520 and 522 and cuff 502 of the glove 500 may be similar to the gloves 300 and 400 described above.
[0038] The embodiment of FIG.5 shows a glove 500 comprising a first sleeve 520 and a second glove 522, wherein the first sleeve 520 is attached to a first hand 530 having a first handsize, and the second sleeve 522 is attached to a second hand 532 having a second handsize. The handsizes of the gloves may be different from one another. The glove 500 may also comprise a cuff 502, wherein a portion 510 of the cuff 502 may be attached to the port of a glovebox (as described above). The sleeves 520 and 522 may attach to the cuff 502, wherein access to both of the sleeves 520 and 522 is allowed through the cuff 502. In the embodiment shown, a user may choose to use one of the hands 530 and 532 based on the size that most closely fits the user’s hand. In some embodiments, the attachment point 504 between the sleeves 520 and 522 may be closer to the cuff 502 and attachment to the port than to the ends of the gloves and/or sleeves, which may allow for the extra glove that is not being used to be placed aside within the glovebox and not interfere with the work being done using the other glove.
[0039] In some embodiments, the glove 500 may comprise more than two sleeves, such as three, four or five sleeves. In one embodiments, the glove 500 may comprise a third sleeve operable to attach to a third hand comprising a third handsize, wherein the third sleeve attaches to the first sleeve, the second sleeve, and the cuff, wherein access to the third sleeve is allowed through the cuff, wherein the third handsize is different than the first handsize and the second handsize, and wherein one of the first hand, the second hand, and the third hand is used at a time by a user.
[0040] FIG.6 illustrates a glovebox 600 comprising glovebox gloves 612 and 622 attached to the ports 602 and 604 of the glovebox 600. The first glove 612 may comprise a first hand 614 and a second hand 616. The second glove 614 may comprise a third hand 624 and a fourth hand 626. In some embodiments, the first glove 612 may be shaped to be a right hand glove, wherein both hands 614 and 616 may be right hands. In some embodiments, the second glove 622 may be shaped to be a left hand glove, wherein both hands 624 and 626 may be left hands.
[0041] In some embodiments, the attachment point 618 between the first and second hands 614 and 616 of the first glove 612 may be closer to the attachment to the port 602 than to the ends of the hands 614 and 616, which may allow for the second hand 616 that is not being used to be placed aside within the glovebox 600 and not interfere with the work being done using the first hand 614. In some embodiments, the glove 612 may comprise a temporary attachment 632 for the second glove 616 to be attached to the wall 606 and/or floor 608 of the glovebox 600. In some embodiments, the attachment 632 may comprise one or more of: Velcro, adhesive, a clip, a fastener, a pin, a hook, a catch, a clasp, and a snap. Additionally, the first glove 614 may be switched with the second glove 616 wherein the first hand 614 may be held by the attachment 632 and the second hand 616 may be used. Methods for placing the unused glove out the way may include multiple options such as attaching the unused hand to the wall or floor of the glovebox, folding the unused hand back on itself, attaching the unused hand to the other hand, pulling the unused hand inside of itself, among other methods for placing, holding, and/or positioning the unused hand.
[0042] Similarly, the attachment point 628 between the third and fourth hands 624 and 626 of the second glove 622 may be closer to the attachment to the port 604 than to the ends of the hands 624 and 626, which may allow for the fourth hand 626 that is not being used to be placed aside within the glovebox 600 and not interfere with the work being done using the third hand 624. In some embodiments, the glove 622 may comprise a temporary attachment 634 for the fourth glove 626 to be attached to the wall 606 and/or floor 608 of the glovebox 600. In some embodiments, the attachment 634 may comprise one or more of: Velcro, adhesive, a clip, a fastener, a pin, a hook, a catch, a clasp, and a snap. Additionally, the third hand 624 may be switched with the fourth hand 626, wherein the third hand 624 may be held by the attachment 634 and the fourth hand 626 may be used.

Claims

CLAIMS What is claimed is:
1. A glovebox glove (300) for use in a glovebox (600), the glove (300) comprising:
a first hand (320) comprising a first hand characteristic;
a second hand (322) comprising a second hand characteristic; and
a cuff (302) operable to attach to a port (602, 604) in the glovebox (600),
wherein
the first hand (320) and the second hand (322) attach to one another and to the cuff (302); access to both of the hands is allowed through the cuff (302);
the first hand characteristic is different than the second hand characteristic; and
one of the first hand (320) and the second hand (322) is used at a time by a user.
2. The glovebox glove (300) of claim 1, wherein the first hand (320) and the second hand (322) comprise one of: an ambidextrous shape, a right hand shape, or a left hand shape.
3. The glovebox glove (300) of claim 1, wherein the first hand characteristic and the second hand characteristic comprise different hand sizes.
4. The glovebox glove (400) of claim 3 further comprising a third hand (424) comprising a third handsize, wherein the third hand (424) attaches to the first hand (420), the second hand (422), and the cuff (402), wherein access to the third hand (424) is allowed through the cuff (402), wherein the third handsize is different than the first handsize and the second handsize, and wherein one of the first hand (420) the second hand (422) and the third hand (424) is used at a time by a user.
5. The glovebox glove (300) of claim 1, wherein the first hand characteristic and the second hand characteristic comprise different hand textures.
6. The glovebox glove (300) of claim 1, wherein the glove (300) comprises chlorosulfonated polyethylene synthetic rubber (CSM).
7. The glovebox glove (300) of claim 1, wherein the glove (300) comprise one or more of: CSM, neoprene rubber, nitrile rubber, natural rubber, butyl rubber, ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, polyurethane, fluoropolymer materials such as polyvinylidene fluoride, and lead loaded polymers.
8. The glovebox glove (300) of claim 1, wherein the cuff (302) comprises a diameter between approximately 4 inches and approximately 16 inches.
9. The glovebox glove (300) of claim 1 wherein when one of the hands is being used, the unused hand is placed out of the way by one of the following: attaching the unused hand to the wall or floor of the glovebox, folding the unused hand back on itself, attaching the unused hand to the other hand, pulling the unused hand inside of itself, among other methods for placing, holding, and/or positioning the unused hand.
10. The glovebox glove (300) of claim 1, wherein the glove (300) is approximately 30 inches to approximately 35 inches long.
11. The glovebox glove (300) of claim 1, wherein the glove (300) is approximately 10 inches to approximately 40 inches long.
12. A glovebox glove (500) for use in a glovebox (600), the glove (500) comprising: a first sleeve (520) operable to attach to a first hand (530) comprising a first handsize;
a second sleeve (522) operable to attach to a second hand (532) comprising a second handsize; and
a cuff (502) operable to attach to a port (602, 604) in the glovebox (600),
wherein
the first sleeve (520) and the second sleeve (522) attach to one another and to the cuff (502); access to both of the hands (530, 532) is allowed through the cuff (502);
the first handsize is different than the second handsize; and
one of the first hand (530) and the second hand (532) is used at a time by a user.
13. The glovebox glove (500) of claim 12, wherein the hands (530, 532) are removably attached to the sleeves (520, 522) and can be replaced.
14. The glovebox glove (500) of claim 12 further comprising a temporary attachment (632, 634) for one of the first sleeve (520) and second sleeve (522), which is not being used, to be attached to a wall (606) or floor (608) of the glovebox (600).
15. The glovebox glove (500) of claim 12, wherein the glove (500) comprise one or more of: CSM, neoprene rubber, nitrile rubber, natural rubber, butyl rubber, ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, polyurethane, fluoropolymer materials such as polyvinylidene fluoride, and lead loaded polymers.
