Description

[Title established by the ISA under Rule 37.2] A HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE PROVIDED WITH A HEATING ELEMENT COMPRISING METALLIC NANOWIRE MATERIAL
The present invention relates to a small household appliance with reduced energy requirement.
In small household appliances such as kettle, hair dryer, clothes iron, toaster, etc. the heating elements are generally produced from metallic materials such as nichrome, kanthal, cupronickel, in form of strip, wire or plate. The heating elements used in the small household appliances use electric energy to convert the electric current passed therethrough to thermal energy. However, since the state of the art metallic heating elements are produced from conventional materials in form of strip, wire and plate, the energy required for the operation of the small household appliances is very high.
In the state of the art Korean Patent Application No. KR20100048508, a hair dryer with reduced energy consumption is disclosed.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of a small household appliance with reduced energy requirement.
The small household appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicate in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a body and a heating element that is disposed on the body and that generates heat.
The heating element of the present invention is produced from metallic nanowire and has metal electrodes that are disposed at two opposing ends thereof and that conduct electric current. The heating element is formed by shaping the rod-shaped metallic nanowire materials into a mesh so as to contact with each other. By means of the heating element produced from nanosize metal material with low surface resistance, the electrical energy requirement of the small household appliance is decreased. Moreover, since the metallic nanowire materials can produce energy at constant temperature for the operational period of the small household appliance, they provide a safer utilization.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the heating element comprises silver nanowire. Thanks to the antibacterial feature of silver, formation of bacteria in the body is prevented, thus providing hygiene.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the surface of the heating element is at least partially coated with metal oxide thin films such as silicon oxide (SiO2), aluminum oxide (Al2O3). The surface of the heating element is almost completely coated with metal oxide thin films so as to increase the resistance of the metal nanowires against abrasion.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the heating element is formed by coating metallic nanowire material onto the ceramic plate.
The small household appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
Figure 1- is the exploded view of a small household appliance.
Figure 2 – is the schematic view of a heating element.
The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
  1. Small home appliances
  2. Body
  3. Heating element
  4. Metal electrode
  5. Ceramic plate
The small household appliance (1) comprises a body (2) and a heating element (3) that is disposed on the body (2) and that converts electrical energy into thermal energy. The heating elements (3) used in the small household appliances (1) use electric energy to convert the electric current passed therethrough to thermal energy.
The heating element (3) of the present invention comprises metallic nanowire material with both ends coated with metal electrodes (4). The heating element (3) is formed by shaping nanosize metal material into a cobweb-like thin film. Thanks to the low surface resistance of the thin film formed by the nanowires coming together, the heating element (3) has a high heating capacity even under low voltage. Thus, the small household appliances (1) are enabled to be operated wirelessly and with a battery.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the heating element (3) comprises silver nanowire. Thanks to the antibacterial feature of nano silver, formation of bacteria in the body (2) is prevented, thus providing hygiene.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the heating element (3) comprises golden nanowire.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the heating element (3) comprises copper nanowire.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the surface of the heating element (3) is at least partially coated with metal oxide thin films such as SiO2, Al2O3. By coating the surface of the heating element (3) so that the metal electrodes (4) are exposed, the metal nanowires forming the heating element (3) are prevented from being damaged due to air flow.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the heating element (3) comprises metallic nanowire material coated onto a ceramic plate (5). In this embodiment, the heating element (3) is produced by coating the rod-shaped metallic nanowire material onto the ceramic plate (5) in a knitted manner by solution-based methods.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the small household appliance (1) is a hair dryer.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the small household appliance (1) is a clothes iron.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the small household appliance (1) is a kettle.
By means of the present invention, in particular by producing the heating element (3) with metallic nanowire materials, the small household appliance (1) is enabled to operate under low currents. Thus, the small household appliances (1) can be operated wirelessly and with a battery. Moreover, since the high energy requirement of the small household appliance (1) is eliminated, a weaker magnetic field is generated during the operation of the small household appliance (1). Moreover, since the heating element (3) produced from metallic nanowire materials can be operated with direct current instead of alternating current, a safe utilization is provided.
