Abstract
Apparatus for electric resistance welding of small metallic items (M) onto a surface of a continuous metallic band (B) comprises an upper bearing member (1) and a lower bearing member (2), a supplying unit (3) with at least one guide (31), a supplying unit (4) for supplying small metallic items (M) onto a surface of said continuous metallic band (B), and a welding assembly (5) comprising a stationary unit (51) with a stationary welding electrode (510) mounted on the lower bearing member (1), as well as a movable unit (52) with a movable welding electrode (520), which is mounted on the upper bearing member (1) above said stationary welding electrode (510).
Description
Apparatus for electric resistance welding of small metallic items onto a surface of a continuous metallic band
In the field of performing operations, the invention refers to appliances for processing of metals, namely to welding appliances and in particular to electric resistance welding appliances.
The invention is rest on a problem, how to create an apparatus for electric resistance welding of small metallic items onto a surface of a continuous metallic band, in which said welding could be performed during uniform sequences of repeating time intervals, and in which the required forwarding of the metallic band and also transferring of small metallic items onto the surface of said band just prior to welding could be automated.
An apparatus for electric resistance welding for the purpose of establishing a non- detachable interconnection between two metallic items is disclosed in US 2005/0284848 Al and WP 1 579 943 Bl and is furnished with a displaceable welding electrode, which is attached on the bottom side of a bearing plate and is simultaneously with said plate displaceable in the vertical direction. Each metallic
items, which should be welded to each other, can be placed below said electrode. After said displaceable electrode is moved downwardly, the electrode is rest onto one of said metallic items, upon which the electric current is allowed to pass throughout said displaceable electrode, said metallic items and said stationary electrode. As a consequence of the electric resistance of said metallic items, both of them are intensively heated and melted at least on the contact surfaces between them. Upon interruption of the electric current, said items become adhered and welded to each other to each other due to the pressure involved by said displaceable electrode.
The present invention refers to an apparatus for electric resistance welding of small metallic items onto a surface of a continuous metallic band, wherein said apparatus generally comprises a welding unit, which is adapted for performing of non- detachable interconnection of two metallic parts by means of electric resistance welding, wherein said welding unit is attached to at least one disposable bearing member. The invention provides that said apparatus comprises
two substantially flat bearing members, which extend parallel with respect to each other and are arranged one above the another at a pre-determined distance, which is adjustable within a pre-determined range, namely a lower bearing member and a upper bearing member, and wherein one of said bearing members is furnished with appropriate number of appropriately arranged guiding bushes, and each residual bearing member is furnished with appropriate number of appropriately arranged guiding pins, which are adapted to cooperate with said guiding bushes, and wherein the lower bearing member is stationary, while the upper bearing member is displaceable in a direction towards the bottom bearing member and in opposite direction;
a forwarding unit, which comprises at least one metallic band guide, which is suitable for guiding of said continuous metallic band and forwarding it step-by-
step in the longitudinal direction of the apparatus within an intermediate area between said bearing members,
a supplying unit for supplying said small metallic items onto a surface of said continuous metallic band, wherein said supplying unit comprises at least
- a storage unit, which is adapted for storage of a pre-determined number of said small metallic items,
- a directing unit, which is adapted for receiving said small metallic items from said storage unit as well as for arranging and positioning of said small metallic items prior to delivering thereof onto the surface of said continuous metallic band;
- a guide for guiding of small metallic items one after another onto the surface of said continuous metallic band;
- a welding unit, which is suitable for electric resistance welding of electric conductive parts and comprises
- a stationary unit, which is attached to the lower bearing member and includes a stationary welding electrode, which consists of electric conductive material and is electrically insulated apart from the other components of the apparatus and is moreover adapted for supporting said continuous metallic band during the welding;
- a displaceable unit, which includes a displaceable welding electrode and is attached to the upper bearing member just above said stationary welding electrode and consists of electric conductive material and is electrically insulated apart from the other components of the apparatus and is moreover adapted to rest on each small metallic item during the welding as well as for pressing it towards the surface of said continuous metallic band;
- an energizing unit, which includes an electric transformer and other components required for establishing an electric circuit, in which said electrodes are integrated,
wherein said welding electrodes are integrated in said electric circuit, which is optionally established or interrupted, and wherein said electric circuit with integrated electrodes is established when said bearing members are located at the minimal distance from each other, while at larger distance between said bearing members said electric circuit is interrupted.
A preferred embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention provides that said guide of the guiding unit for delivering of said onto the surface of said continuous metallic band small metallic items is adjusted for successively forwarding of each particular small metallic items onto the surface of said continuous metallic band in the transversal direction of the apparatus.
One of possible embodiments of the invention further provides that said apparatus also comprises a cutting assembly, which is adapted for cutting said continuous metallic band furnished with at least one small metallic item welded thereon. In such case, said cutting assembly comprises a cutting unit with a blade, which is attached to one of said bearing members, a well as a supporting unit, which is adapted for supporting said continuous metallic band furnished with at least one small metallic item welded thereon during said cutting and is attached to each residual bearing member, wherein said cutting assembly is located between said bearing members and behind said welding unit, when observed in a direction of forwarding the continuous metallic band along the apparatus.
Apparatus according to the invention is preferably adjusted for electric resistance welding of small items consisting of steel onto the surface of a continuous band consisting of steel plate, wherein -iz is in particularly preferred, if said small metallic item is a nut.
The invention will be described in more detail on the basis of an embodiment, which is presented in the enclosed drawings, wherein
Fig. 1 is an isometric view of a device for electric resistant welding of small metallic items onto a surface of a continuous metallic band;
Fig. 2 presents isometric view of separately presented welding unit and supplying unit of the apparatus according to Fig. 1 ;
Fig. 3 is an isometric view of apparatus according to Fig. 1, however from the opposite direction;
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the apparatus with removed bearing members; and Fig. 5 is an isometric view of separately presented supplying unit of the apparatus according to Fig. 1 and/or 3.
Apparatus for electric resistance welding of small metallic items M onto a surface of a continuous metallic band B generally comprises a welding unit 5, which is adapted for performing of non-detachable interconnection of two metallic parts B, M by means of electric resistance welding, wherein said welding unit 5 is attached to at least one disposable bearing member 1, 2.
A specific embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention (Figs 1 - 5) refers to an apparatus for electric resistance welding of small metallic items in the form of classic hexagonal internally threaded nuts onto a surface of a continuous metallic band B, which is finally cut into sections of a pre-determined length, wherein on the surface of each of said sections obtained by cutting said band B at least one nut M is welded.
Said apparatus comprises two substantially flat bearing members 1, 2, which extend parallel with respect to each other and are arranged one above the another at a pre-determined distance, which is adjustable within a pre-determined range,
namely a lower bearing member 1 and a upper bearing member 2. One of said bearing members 1 is furnished with appropriate number of appropriately arranged guiding bushes 1 1 , and each residual bearing member 2 is furnished with appropriate number of appropriately arranged guiding pins 21, which are adapted to cooperate with said guiding bushes 11. In the presented embodiment, the lower bearing member 1 is stationaiy, while the upper bearing member 2 is displaceable in a direction towards the bottom bearing member 1 and in opposite direction.
The apparatus according to the invention further comprises a forwarding unit 3, which is furnished with at least one metallic guide 31, which is intended for guiding of said continuous metallic band B, namely forwarding it step-by-step, in the longitudinal direction X of the apparatus within an intermediate area between said bearing members 1, 2.
The apparatus according to the invention still further comprises a supplying unit 4 (Fig. 5), which is intended for supplying said small metallic items M onto a surface of said continuous metallic band B, wherein said supplying unit 4 comprises at least
- a storage unit 41, which is adapted for storage of a pre-determined number of said small metallic items M;
- a directing unit 42, which is adapted for receiving said small metallic items M from said storage unit 41 as well as for arranging and positioning of said small metallic items M prior to delivering thereof onto the surface of said continuous metallic band B; as well as
- a guide 43 for guiding of small metallic items M one after another onto the surface of said continuous metallic band B.
In the shown embodiment, said a guide 43 for guiding of small metallic items M one after another onto the surface of said continuous metallic band B is adapted for delivering of small metallic items M one after another onto the surface of said continuous metallic band B in the transversal direction Y of the apparatus, while the directing unit 42 is available as a vibration directing unit.
The apparatus according to the invention still further comprises a welding unit 5, which is suitable for electric resistance welding of electric conductive parts B, M and comprises
- a stationary unit 51, which is attached to the lower bearing member 1 and includes a stationary welding electrode 510, which consists of electric conductive material and is electrically insulated apart from the other components of the apparatus and is moreover adapted for supporting said continuous metallic band B during the welding;
- a displaceable unit 52, which includes a displaceable welding electrode 520 and is attached to the upper bearing member 2 just above said stationary welding electrode 510 and consists of electric conductive material and is electrically insulated apart from the other components of the apparatus and is moreover adapted to rest on each small metallic item M during the welding as well as for pressing it towards the surface of said continuous metallic band B;
- an energizing unit 53, which includes an electric transformer and other components required for establishing an electric circuit, in which said electrodes 510, 520 are integrated.
Said welding electrodes 510, 520 are electrically integrated into an electric circuit, which is optionally established or interrupted, wherein said electric circuit with integrated electrodes 510, 520 is established when said bearing members 1 , 2 are
located at the minimal distance from each other, while at larger distance between said bearing members 1, 2 said electric circuit is interrupted.
The apparatus according to the invention optionally comprises a cutting assembly 6, which is adapted for cutting said continuous metallic band B furnished with at least one small metallic item M welded thereon, wherein said cutting assembly 6 comprises a cutting unit 61 with a blade, which is attached to one of said bearing members 1 , a well as a supporting unit 62, which is adapted for supporting said continuous metallic band B furnished with at least one small metallic item M welded thereon during the cutting and is attached to each residual bearing member 2.
Said cutting assembly 6 is arranged between said bearing members 1, 2 and behind said welding unit 5, when observed in a direction of forwarding the continuous metallic band B along the apparatus.
The apparatus according to the invention is generally adjusted for electric resistance welding of small items (M) consisting of steel onto the surface of a continuous band (B) consisting of steel plate. As already mentioned, in the shown embodiment said apparatus is adjusted for electric resistance welding of nuts consisting of steel onto the surface of a continuous band B consisting of steel plate.
Apparatus for electric resistance welding of small metallic items M onto a surface of a continuous metallic band B generally operates similarly like presses and similar appliances for processing and/or treatment of metallic materials, namely on the principle of periodically repeating of approaching or removal of each bearing members 1 , 2, which is accompanied with appropriate cooperation of each required components.
When in apparatus according to Fig. 1 the continuous metallic band B is inserted into a guide 31 and the storage unit 41 is supplied with a certain quantity of small metallic items M, and when the bearing members 1, 2 are located apart from each other, the electric circuit with integrated welding electrodes 510, 520 is interrupted. Each disposable small metallic items M are within the directing unit 42 arranged, and prior to approaching of said bearing members 1, 2 one of said metallic items M enters the guide 42 of the supplying assembly 4, along which it is then transferred towards the surface of the band B, where it is deposited in a predetermined position between the welding electrodes 510, 520. When later-on the bearing members 1, 2 approach to each other, the upper welding electrode 520 rests on the metallic item M, which is rest on the surface of the band B and supported with the stationary electrode 510. In this moment the electric circuit with integrated electrodes 510, 520 is established, and as a consequence of transferring each electric current of appropriate intensity throughout said metallic band B having a pre-determined electric resistance and throughout each metallic item M with a pre-determined electric resistance, which is arranged on the surface thereof and in electric contact therewith, each required heat is generated within said band B and said metallic item M. Due to said generated heat, said band B and said metallic item M are heated at least on their mutual contact surfaces at least on the temperature of melting or plasticizing, and are then welded to each other due to the pressure between each other, which results from the pressure between the welding electrodes 510, 520.
Upon that, the bearing members 1, 2 together with welding electrodes 10, 520 are removed from each other, and the band B and the metallic item welded to each other are left to cool, but at the same time, the band B is forwarded within the guide 31 of the forwarding unit 3 at each appropriate distance in the sense of advancing the belt in the longitudinal direction X throughout the apparatus, upon
which another small metallic item M is delivered from the guide 42 of the supplying unit 4 onto the surface of the band B. During the subsequent stage, the bearing members 1, 2 together with welding electrodes 510, 520 start to approach to each other, upon which the electric circuit there-through is established, wherein optionally, when the apparatus this allows, cutting and removal of the one of sections of said band B with previously welded small metallic item M on the surface thereof is performed between approaching of said bearing members 1 , 2.
Claims
1. Apparatus for electric resistance welding of small metallic items (M) onto a surface of a continuous metallic band (B), said apparatus comprising a welding unit (5), which is adapted for performing of non-detachable interconnection of two metallic parts (B, M) by means of electric resistance welding, wherein said welding unit (5) is attached to at least one disposable bearing member (1 , 2), characterized in that said apparatus comprises
two substantially flat bearing members (1 , 2), which extend parallel with respect to each other and are arranged one above the another at a pre-determined distance, which is adjustable within a pre-determined range, namely a lower bearing member (1) and a upper bearing member (2), wherein one of said bearing members (1 , 2) is furnished with appropriate number of appropriatel arranged guiding bushes (1 1), and each residual bearing member (1 , 2) is furnished with appropriate number of appropriately arranged guiding pins (21), which are adapted to cooperate with said guiding bushes (1 1), and wherein the lower bearing member (1) is stationary, while the upper bearing member (2) is displaceable in a direction towards the bottom bearing member (1) and in opposite direction;
a forwarding unit (3), comprising at least one metallic band (B) guide (31), which is suitable for guiding of said continuous metallic band (B) and forwarding it step-by-step in the longitudinal direction (X) of the apparatus within an intermediate area between said bearing members ( 1 , 2);
a supplying unit (4) for supplying said small metallic items (M) onto a surface of said continuous metallic band (B), wherein said supplying unit (4) comprises at least
- a storage unit (41), which is adapted for storage of a pre-determined number of said small metallic items (M);
- a directing unit (42), which is adapted for receiving said small metallic items (M) from said storage unit (41) as well as for arranging and positioning of said small metallic items (M) prior to delivering thereof onto the surface of said continuous metallic band (B);
- a guide (43) for guiding of small metallic items (M) one after another onto the surface of said continuous metallic band (B);
- a welding unit (5), which is suitable for electric resistance welding of electric conductive parts (B, M) and comprises
- a stationary unit (51), which is attached to the lower bearing member (1) and includes a stationary welding electrode (510), which consists of electric conductive material and is electrically insulated apart from the other components of the apparatus and is moreover adapted for supporting said continuous metallic band (B) during the welding;
- a displaceable unit (52), which includes a displaceable welding electrode (520) and is attached to the upper bearing member (2) just above said stationary welding electrode (510) and consists of electric conductive material and is electrically insulated apart from the other components of the apparatus and is moreover adapted to rest on each small metallic item (M) during the welding as well as for pressing it towards the surface of said continuous metallic band (B);
- an energizing unit (53), which includes an electric transformer and other components required for establishing an electric circuit, in which said electrodes (510, 520) are integrated,
wherein said welding electrodes (510, 520) are integrated in said electric circuit, which is optionally established or interrupted, and wherein said electric circuit with integrated electrodes (510, 520) is established when said bearing members (1, 2) are located at the minimal distance from each
other, while at larger distance between said bearing members (1, 2) said electric circuit is interrupted.
2. Apparatus according to Claim 1 , characterized in that said guide (43) of the guiding unit (4) for delivering of said onto the surface of said continuous metallic band (B) small metallic items (M) is adjusted for successively forwarding of each particular small metallic items (M) onto the surface of said continuous metallic band (B) in the transversal direction (Y) of the apparatus.

Apparatus according to one of Claims 1 - 2, characterized in that said apparatus further comprises a cutting assembly (6), which is adapted for cutting said continuous metallic band (B) furnished with at least one small metallic item (M) welded thereon, wherein said cutting assembly (6) comprises a cutting unit (61) with a blade, which is attached to one of said bearing members (1), a well as a supporting unit (62), which is adapted for supporting said continuous metallic band (B) furnished with at least one small metallic item (M) welded thereon during the cutting and is attached to each residual bearing member (2), and wherein said cutting assembly (6) is arranged between said bearing members (1, 2) and behind said welding unit (5), when observed in a direction of forwarding the continuous metallic band (B) along the apparatus.
4. Apparatus according to one of Claims 1 - 3, characterized in that said apparatus is adjusted for electric resistance welding of small items (M) consisting of steel onto the surface of a continuous band (B) consisting of steel plate.
5. Apparatus according to one of Claims 1 - 3, characterized in that said apparatus is adjusted for electric resistance welding of each small item (M) in the form of a nut onto the surface of a continuous band (B) consisting of steel plate.
