Description

ROOT VEGETABLE WASHING DEVICE
This invention relates to a root vegetable washing device. The root vegetable washing device be- longs to the technical field of kitchen utensils and is made to facilitate the washing of root vegetables, such as, for example, potatoes, carrots and radishes, as well as fruits, such as apples, pears and similar foodstuffs, and also to remove a thin peel from new pota- toes, at the least.
The known solution in this technical field is for peeling and/or cleaning root vegetables by brushing them when dry or in water. For cleaning new potatoes, suitably powerful brushing in water is adequate, where- in is also provided shedding of the thin peel of the potatoes. For cleaning fruits, dry brushing and rinsing is usually adequate. Also known is to use a cylindri- cally-shaped, lidded basket made of metal mesh, in which root vegetables are cleaned by moving the basket in water. One known solution is to use gloves made from a coarse material, with which the surface of the root vegetable is rubbed. The disadvantage of the known solutions is slowness. The slowness of cleaning performed by brushing, rubbing with gloves and peeling is due to the fact that, using these solutions, only one root vegetable can be cleaned at a time. Using the lidded basket, several root vegetables can be cleaned at once, but this solution requires a large water vessel and is best applicable where the cleaning is performed in a lake or similar.
The object of the invention is to provide efficient and fast cleaning of root vegetables and also fruits from soil and other impurities. A root vegetable washing device according to the invention is light and easy to use. The invention is intended especially for household use, but is also suitable for other and wider requirements .
This object can be achieved according to the invention by providing a root vegetable washing device, which is also suitable for cleaning fruits and, using which, cleaning can be performed preferably also in- doors. The root vegetable washing device has two preferably circular washing platforms provided with bristles: a lower washing platform and an upper washing platform. The lower washing platform has bristles and a border, which is higher than the bristles, and adhesive elements to keep the lower washing platform in its place as well as a grid provided with openings or similar, for example, a plate with an opening for removing from the lower washing platform soil, bits of peel and other residue draining away during washing. The upper washing platform has bristles and a handle for moving the upper washing platform in relation to the lower washing platform. The upper washing platform can also have a stiffening edge, which is lower than the bristles attached to the upper washing platform. The root vegetables or fruits to be cleaned are placed onto the lower washing platform and the upper washing platform is placed on top of the lower washing platform, after which cleaning is performed by moving preferably, by means of the handle, the upper washing platform in re- lation to the lower washing platform. A parallel or back-and-forth rotational movement achieves the result that the root vegetables or fruits placed between the platforms roll and move against each other. When placing the root vegetable washing machine into the water vessel, such as, for example, into a sink, wash bowl or similar, the cleaning effect becomes more efficient as soil and other impurities and bits of peel are rinsed into the water from the surface of the root vegetable or fruit and from the bristles.
More specifically, the invention is characterized by what is presented in the characteristic fea- tures part of claim 1.
In the following, the invention is described in more detail by means of reference to the accompanying figure, in which Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a root vegetable washing device according to the inven- tion.
The root vegetable washing device comprises a lower washing platform 1 and an upper washing platform 7, which lower washing platform 1 has a border 2, a grid 4 provided with openings 5, adhesive elements 3, and bristles 6, and which upper washing platform 7 has bristles 9, an edge 8, and a handle 10. The bristles 6 are attached to the bottom grid. The grid 4 has openings 5 for draining away bits of peel, soil and the like. To improve the remaining in place of the lower washing platform 1 while in use, to the bottom of the lower washing platform 1 are attached adhesive elements 3, preferably an adhesive ring. The material of the adhesive element 3 is a flexible material, preferably rubber, plastic or similar, the adhesive friction of which onto the bottom of the wash vessel is great. The adhesive element 3 can also include suction cups . The structure of the lower washing platform 1 is such that the border 2 is higher than the bristles 6. The root vegetables remain during the period of the washing motion on the lower washing platform 1 without falling, because the upper surface of the bristles 6 is lower than the upper edge of the border 2. To the lower surface of the upper washing platform 7 are attached bristles 9. The upper washing platform 7 also has a stiffening edge 8, which is lower than the bristles 9 of the upper washing platform 7. The upper surface of the up- per washing platform 7 has a handle 10 for moving the upper washing platform 7. The root vegetable washing device is used such that the root vegetables to be washed are placed on the lower washing platform 1 on top of the bristles 6, when the lower washing platform 1 is on the bottom of the washing vessel and there is also water in the washing vessel . The upper washing platform 7 is moved by means of the handle 10 on top of the root vegetables. The root vegetables thus chafe against the bristles and each other. The chafing move- ment removes impurities and thin peels from the root vegetables, especially when a back-and- forth rotational movement is used.
The washing platforms of the root vegetable washing device, the bottom grid, the border, the stiff- ening edge and the handle are of their material preferably plastic and/or aluminium; the bristles nylon and/or natural fibre; and the adhesive elements rubber and/or plastic materials, the adhesive characteristics i.e. friction of which is great, however, without lim- iting the materials to those presented herein. The adhesive elements may also include suction cups improving adhesion. In addition to a bottom grid provided with openings, the lower bottom platform may further have openings of a different size for removal of water and other loose material .
The adhesive elements of the lower bottom platform can be implemented using an adhesive ring, adhesion points or similar.
The figures and the therein related embodiment describing the structure and function of the invention are intended only to illustrate the invention. In its details, the root vegetable washing device may vary within the scope of the claims. It is obvious that the form of the root vegetable washing device is not limited only to the example described. The material, structure and strength of the bristles may vary.
