Description

The field of the invention is that of government systems and concerns more precisely an electronic system for automatically recognizing a person, by its physical appearance and more specifically by the recognition of his face, his iris.
Physical recognition systems are typically used in airports, embassies, schools, research centers, and generally in all places where access control is required.
Traditionally, an immigration check of an individual at an airport consists of presenting himself at an ATM held by an immigration officer to whom the traveler presents his passport, identity card or other travel document. The customs officer, after checking that the face of the traveler who comes to him matches the one on the photograph of the passport (in addition to having verified that this person is not wanted), authorizes this traveler to present himself in the departure lounge.
Since the advent of electronic passports, a photograph of the traveler can be recorded in an electronic chip included in his passport. The customs officer has a reader able to read this photograph which is then displayed on a screen. The comparison of the photograph displayed and the face of the traveler who comes to the customs officer allows the latter to verify the authenticity of the traveler.
In order to limit the duration of customs controls and to reduce the failure rate of person identifications, automatic electronic physical recognition systems have been deployed at airports. These systems include an airlock (an entrance door and an exit door limiting an enclosed space) into which the traveler enters. The airlock is a few meters long. When entering the airlock and carrying his electronic travel document, the traveler presents his passport to an electronic reader who reads the photograph of the traveler who is stored there. Near the exit obstacle of the airlock, a camera or a camera takes several photographs of the face of the person who walks in the airlock and compares these images with the one read in the electronic passport. If one of the photographs taken by the camera or the camera is exploitable and corresponds to the photograph read in the electronic passport, the person has been recognized and the exit door of the airlock opens. The person can then leave the airlock. Otherwise, the person has not been recognized and they are invited to pass a traditional control, as mentioned above.
Patent application WO 2010/045941 discloses such a system for physically recognizing a person.
This system includes, in the airlock, a mobile camera mounted on a vertical ramp. When the traveler enters the airlock and heads for the exit door, several photographs of the moving person are taken and the vertical position of the camera is adjusted so that it can take a front view of the traveler. This is necessary because of the different sizes of the travelers: a photograph of a person of 1, 20 meter (for example a child) can not be taken at the same height as a person who measures 2 meters.
The two main disadvantages of this solution are the following:
- Des éléments mécaniques et électriques sont utilisés pour mouvoir verticalement la caméra (de haut en bas et de bas en haut). Ces éléments (rampe sur laquelle peut se mouvoir la caméra, mécanisme d'entraînement, moteur,...) doivent subir un entretien régulier pour que la caméra soit toujours opérationnelle et puisse toujours prendre, en définitive, une photographie en face du visage du voyageur ; - Mechanical and electrical elements are used to move the camera vertically (from top to bottom and from bottom to top). These elements (ramp on which the camera can move, mechanism of drive, motor, ...) must undergo a regular maintenance so that the camera is always operational and can always take, finally, a photograph in front of the face of the traveler;
- The vertical movement of the camera takes a while, before a good photograph of the traveler's face is taken. If the traveler moves too fast in the airlock, the camera does not have time to move fast enough for a front photograph to recognize it is taken. The traveler will have to step back in the airlock and move slowly again so that the camera can position itself in front of his face before taking a photograph that can be compared with that contained in his electronic passport. The automatic recognition of persons device then loses its interest since it is initially supposed to save time to migratory control.
The present invention is intended to overcome these disadvantages.
More specifically, one of the objectives of the invention is to provide a physical recognition system of a person combining reliability, lack of maintenance and to physically recognize a person much faster (eg a traveler in an airport) than in the state of the art aforementioned.
This objective, as well as others that will appear later, is achieved through a system of recognition of a person, the system comprising reference biometric data relating to the face of the person, the system comprising means of capturing facial images of the person as well as means for comparing the reference biometric data with the images from the image capture means for authenticating or not the person.
According to the invention, the image capture means consist of several fixed cameras arranged vertically relative to each other, in order to take photographs at different heights of the person. The cameras are each able to take successive photographs of the person. At least the exploitable photographs are compared as they are taken with the reference biometric data by the means of comparison.
Advantageously, the exploitable photographs consist of photographs of the person's face.
In another mode of implementation, the exploitable photographs are constituted by photographs of the iris of the person.
Preferably, the flow of photographs is displayed on a screen in front of which the person is invited to position his face.
Advantageously, the screen comprises a system for assisting the positioning of the person's face.
The comparison means are preferably connected to a mechanism for opening an exit door.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the following description of an embodiment of the invention, given by way of illustration and without limitation, and of the single appended figure representing a system according to the present invention. .
Le système de la figure est destiné à reconnaître (authentifier) une personne The system of the figure is intended to recognize (authenticate) a person
10, because of his physical appearance. This recognition may consist of recognizing his face, a part of his face or his iris, for example.
The system includes biometric reference data. These biometric reference data can be stored in a database (a database photograph of the person's face has been previously stored) or have been read by a reader (eg an electronic travel document reader) on which the person has previously filed his document, for authentication purposes.
In the case of the use of a reader, the person carries on it a document in which these biometric reference data are recorded and these data are read by the reader.
The system aims to authenticate the person to let him (or not, in case of non-authentication) access to a building, an airport registration room, a concert hall, a stadium ...
As in the state of the art, means for capturing images of the person's face as well as means for comparing the reference biometric data with the images from the image capture means to authenticate or not to authenticate the image. no one is expected.
According to the invention, these image capturing means are constituted by several fixed cameras 1 1 to 15 arranged vertically relative to each other (for example on a rail) in order to take photographs at different heights of the person 10.
Une première caméra 1 1 est ici située à 210 cm du sol, une seconde 12 à 185 cm, une troisième 13 à 160 cm, une quatrième 14 à 135 cm et une cinquième 5 à 1 10 cm. Les caméras sont donc superposées verticalement.  A first camera 1 1 is here located 210 cm from the ground, a second camera 12 to 185 cm, a third 13 to 160 cm, a fourth 14 to 135 cm and a fifth 5 to 1 10 cm. The cameras are thus superimposed vertically.
Each camera 1 1 to 15 is able to take successive photographs of the person 10. In practice, each camera films the person 10 who has positioned himself in front of them, or who moves in their direction. A photograph of each film is selected at regular periods, for example every 50 ms, which makes it possible to obtain a plurality of photographs of the person, taken at different heights and possibly distances. Some of these photographs are of course unusable (subject too distant, photography blurred, face off, subject who turned or lowered his head, ...). The invention proposes to compare at least the exploitable photographs (or all the photographs taken by the cameras 1 1 to 15), and as they are taken, with the reference biometric data. These comparisons are made, as in the state of the art, by comparison means connected to the database and / or to the reader provided at the entrance of the control zone (for example an airlock). The fields of vision of the cameras 1 1 to 15 are respectively referenced 16 to 20. These fields of view are superimposed and thus allow to obtain almost certainly at least one exploitable photograph of the person 10.
If one of the photographs corresponds to the biometric data, the person 10 is authorized to pass: it has been authenticated. An exit door can then open for example (the comparison means are connected to an opening mechanism of an exit door).
If the person 10 has not been authenticated in a configurable time (person having turned their head for example during the taking of photographs), the person 10 is considered to be unauthenticated and invited to leave the airlock for manual control.
A digital screen is associated with each of the cameras. Only one screen is active at a time, the selected screen being the one closest to the horizontal axis of the eyes. These screens serve as an invitation to the traveler (in normal behavior, a traveler will instinctively look at a moving image in front of him), and help the positioning of the face with a red or green color indicating the operability captured images. In the figure, this screen is the screen 23 which is located under the camera 13. The camera 13 is actually the one at the height of the person's face 10.
The screen 23 can display the flow of the photos taken by the camera 13 or the sequence filmed by the camera 13. The face of the person 10 can be photographed by the camera 13 accurately once the latter has positioned his face in face of the screen 23.
In the context of the invention, the exploitable photographs consist of photographs of the face of the person 10. Facial recognition software is used. By "face of the person" is also meant any physical recognition, for example that of the iris of a person.
The invention makes it possible to verify the authenticity of a person much more quickly than in the state of the art, thanks to this plurality of cameras capable of taking several photographs of a person at different heights, these photographs being compared with the data reference biometrics as they are taken. In addition, the invention does not include any parts mobile for the capture of images, the robustness of the system is improved (weight, brakes, engine, ...).
