Description
KIT WITH MULTIPLE NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS AND A METHOD FOR
ASSEMBLING THEREOF
TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention concerns a kit for multiple nutritional supplements and a method for composing thereof.
More specifically, the present invention concerns a kit comprising at least two types of formulations with a different formulation, each formulation comprising one or more essential nutrients wherein each type of formulation is included in a separate container, wherein all types together are suitable for an entire human population. STATE OF THE ART
The absorption of essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids and omega-3 fatty acids is one of the most important conditions for the optimal functioning of the human body.
In addition, the absorption of abovementioned essential nutrients in the suitable amounts is of paramount importance. A too low amount of nutrients leads to medical discomfort and increases the risk of diseases of the organs and/or nervous system. On the other hand, an excessive amount of essential nutrients can lead to unwanted side effects.
An example of such essential nutrients are amongst others the known vitamins and minerals. In addition, more and more other substances are considered as essential for a balanced diet.
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) are omega-3 fatty acids that are characterised by poly-unsaturated carbon-carbon bonds. DHA plays a vital role in hormonal processes. EPA is of nutritional importance in the context of diseases and disorders related to the nervous system, such as, for example, depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. From recent studies follows an increasing knowledge and understanding of the role and importance of such polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids.
To facilitate a simple and efficient administration of the necessary nutrient, several formulations of nutritional supplements have already been reported in the literature.
US 2004/0001874 describes methods for identifying and developing safe and effective formulations for nutritional supplements; corresponding modes of administration for such nutritional supplements and methods for distributing such. The formulations for such mentioned nutritional supplements and corresponding modes of administration are adapted for preventing and/or treating specific medical conditions or health problems. Likewise, methods for prescribing and administrating of nutritional supplements to patients is done according to suitable regimes. More specifically, the publication concerns a dietary supplement for cardiovascular diseases. Specific aspects concern the safety of the patient, the medical effective- ness, medical support and cost for the consumers.
US 2012/0121726 discloses methods for the simultaneous administration of various vitamin and mineral formulations and in a specific embodiment said methods comprise the simultaneous administration of a formulation comprising vitamin A, beta-carotene, B-complex vitamin, vitamin C, vitamin D3, vitamin E, iron, magnesium and zinc, and a second formulation comprising omega-3 fatty acids such as DHA, in order to comply with the nutritional needs of individuals with in a physiological stress state. In addition, the document describes a kit for the simultaneous administration of different vitamins and mineral formulations, and in a specific embodiment a kit, comprising a formulation such as described in the preceding paragraph.
US 2009/230013 describes a dosage system of active ingredients that allows a user to select the right dosage.
US 2009/068300 discloses a specific formulation for a nutritional supplement, especially suitable for use with physical activities.
WO 01/43571 describes formulations of a nutritional supplement consisting of vit- amins and minerals, provided in sub-packages.
WO 2007/ 090 408 describes nutritional supplements in tablet form comprising vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids.
A major problem of the known nutritional supplements is that the dosage is not adjusted to the needs of a specific user belonging to a particular population, such as for example a population, characterized by an age category, gender or medical condition. An adjusted dosage for each population subgroup is necessary because their respective needs are substantially different. This is important in order to deliver nutritional supplements without overdosing or without dispensing a multitude of the daily recommended amount of nutritional supplements. This is important because more and more studies show the potentially harmful effects of overdosing. This can eventually lead to adverse effects.
As a result of the above-mentioned problem, it is a pertinent impossibility to provide the appropriate amounts of the desired omega-3 fatty acids as well as the vitamins and minerals for each individual user; the needs of each individual are substantially different from that of any other user.
The available literature and the state of the art do not provide for alternative dosage forms that meet the above-described problems. The present invention there- fore aims to find a solution to at least some of the above-mentioned problems.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
In a first aspect, the present invention provides a kit comprising at least two types of formulations with a different composition, each formulation comprising :
(i) one or more poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids; and/or
(ii) one or more vitamins, minerals and/or essential amino acids;
wherein each type of formulation is included in a separate container, and wherein all types together are suitable for an entire human population.
A formulation with the desired type and amount of vitamins, minerals and optionally omega-3 fatty acid according to present invention provides the consumer with a simple and user-friendly alternative to the known intake possibilities. The formulation described above is better tolerated by the body and significantly less prone to reflux or regurgitations. The formulation also provides a rich source of necessary and essential nutrients, such as for example the essential poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA.
The present invention also offers the advantage that it can administer the desired amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, minerals and vitamins in a practical and economically feasible manner, in a form and amount that best fits the needs of the individual user and this in relation to his specific age and gender.
In a second aspect, the present invention provides a method for assembling a kit according to the first aspect of the invention, comprising the steps of:
(i) including a first type of formulation in a separate container,
( ii ) grouping of at least two separate containers comprising a different type of formulations, and
( iii ) including said separate containers in a protective covering.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION The present invention provides a solution for at least one of the aforementioned technical problems by providing a kit with multiple nutritional supplements and a method for composing it.
Unless otherwise defined, all terms used in the description of the invention, includ- ing technical and scientific terms, have the meaning as they are commonly understood by those skilled in the art in the technical field of the invention. For a better assessment of the description of the invention, the following terms are explicitly explained. "A", "an" and "the" in this document refer to both the singular and the plural, unless the context clearly implies otherwise. For example, "a segment " means one or more than one segment.
Where "about" or " approximately" are used in this document with a measurable variable, a parameter, a length of time or a moment in time, and the like, variations are intended of +/-20 % or less, preferably +/-10 % or less, more preferably +/-5 % or less, still more preferably +/-1 % or less, and even more preferably +/- 0.1 % of less than the cited value, to the extent that such variations apply to the described invention. It should however be noted that the value of the amount wherein the term "about" or "approximately " is used, is itself specifically disclosed.
The terms "comprise", "comprising", "consist of ", "consisting of ", "provided with", "contain", "containing", "involve", "involving", "include", "including" are synonyms and are inclusive or open terms that indicate the presence of what follows, and which do not exclude or prevent the presence of other components, characteris- tics, elements, members, steps, as known from and described in the prior art.
Citing of numerical intervals by the endpoints comprises all integers, fractions, and/or real numbers between the endpoints, including these endpoints.
f In a first aspect, the present invention provides a kit comprising at least two types of formulations with a different composition, each formulation comprising :
(i) one or more poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids; and/or
(ii) one or more vitamins, minerals and/or essential amino acids; wherein each type of formulation is included in a separate container and wherein all types to- gether are suitable for an entire human population.
Each formulation comprises one or more nutritional supplements for supplementing the diet of an individual user with one or more essential nutrients. This formulation may take several forms, such as a tablet, a pill, a soft capsule, a hard capsule, a powder, liquid, syrup, a wafer, an injectable solution, a melt tablet or rapidly disintegrating tablet, all known from the prior art. In the most preferred embodiment, the formulation will be a capsule, preferably a soft capsule. Such a soft capsule comprises a covering based on gelatine provided with a liquid content.
Preferably, the human population will be divided into specific age categories, wherein each age category is provided with at least one specific formulation.
The recommended daily amount of vitamins and minerals is well documented in the literature. In the current state of the art, it is often customary to compose formulations wherein the amount of vitamins and minerals present comprise at least 100 % of the recommended daily amount. This is to ensure that consumers have thus taken in at least this amount with the consumption of the formulation. However, the inventors of the present invention came to the conclusion that this starting position is not correct, and may even lead to adverse health effects. From the analysis by the inventors of the present invention, it has been found that a
formulation having lower amounts of vitamins and minerals than the RDA gives better results than those which at least meet the RDA. Moreover, it appears that there are specific age categories in the entire human population that can be identified for which specific formulations are required.
In a more preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a kit comprising a plurality of different types of formulations, as described in previous paragraphs, preferably two or more types of formulations comprising one or more nutritional supplements. More preferably, said kit comprises 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 different types of formulations, more preferably between 4 and 12 different types of formulations. Even more preferably, said kit comprises between 6 and 10 different types of formulations, most preferably 8 different types of formulations.
In a preferred embodiment each type of formulation is related to one specific age category or stage of life within the human population, and the composition for the formulation is adapted to this age category/stage of life.
More specifically, in the present invention, the following age categories and/or life stages were identified wherein at least one specific formulation is provided for each age category:
- unisex, 4 to 10 years;
- teenage boys from 11 to 18 years;
- teenage girls from 11 to 18 years;
- prenatal (pregnant women);
- women between 19 and 54 years;
- men between 19 and 54 years;
- women aged 55 and over;
- men aged 55 and over. In a further embodiment, the present invention provides a kit, wherein at least one type of formulation comprises at least one or more poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids, and wherein at least a second type comprises one or more vitamins, minerals and/or essential amino acids. In another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the present invention provides a kit, wherein at least one type of formulation comprises at least two or more vitamins and at least one or more minerals, and optionally one or more fatty
acids or derivatives thereof, wherein one of the named vitamins is vitamin D. In a further preferred embodiment, vitamin D will be present in an amount that is higher than the recommended daily amount, and all the other vitamins and/or minerals present and optionally other ingredients, with the exception of folic acid, will be lower than the recommended daily amount DA.
Vitamin D is an essential vitamin in our diet and low levels of vitamin D are, amongst others, linked to brittle bones, heart problems, organ failure, cognitive problems, hepatitis, etc. The addition of vitamin D in our diet is therefore crucial. This is in contrast to other vitamins which were believed up to now to also have to be added in an amount as high as possible (most preferably at least the recommended daily amount) to our diet. From the present invention, it is shown that this is not the case, and that most of the other vitamins and minerals (with the exception of folic acid in certain stages of life) do not have to be administered in a formulation that contains the recommended daily amount.
Thus, the present invention also provides a formulation comprising at least two vitamins, one or more minerals and optionally one or more fatty acids or derivatives thereof, wherein one of said vitamins is vitamin D and is provided in an amount that is higher than the recommended daily amount. Preferably, this formulation shall contain between 100 and 300 % of the recommended daily amount of vitamin D for the human being, more preferably between 150 % and 250 %, most preferably 200 %. In a further embodiment, all other vitamins and/or minerals present and any other ingredients, with the exception of folic acid in some of these formulations, will be lower than the recommended daily amount RDA.
According to a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a kit, wherein one or more poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids, is selected from the group, comprising docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), wherein said omega-3 fatty acids comprise a mixture of phospholipid-bound and triglycer- ide-bound omega-3 fatty acids.
Some of the advantages of such a formulation is that this intake is accurately dosed, and that the user does not experience unpleasant taste and/or odour prob- lems upon intake or at reflux. The formulation described above is better tolerated by the body and is much less prone to reflux or regurgitation. The formulation also
provides a rich source of necessary and essential nutrients, such as the essential polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA.
According to a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a kit com- prising one or more formulations wherein said formulations comprises one or more vitamins, wherein the vitamins are selected from the group comprising vitamin A, vitamin Bl, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin B9, vitamin Bll, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin D, vitamin K, or any combination thereof.
The present invention is directed to a balanced formulation of essential nutrients, suitable for a specific stage of life of the user. Formulations of the prior art are typically directed to the provision of at least the generally recommended daily amount (RDA) of each essential nutrient. However, the inventor of the present invention has found that the measure of the RDA is only an average value, which in most cases is not adapted to the specific needs arising in the different life stages of the user. Formulations of the present invention therefore wish to meet the needs of the user. Preferably, said formulation comprises vitamin D in an amount of between 5 pg to 25 pg per formulation, more preferably between 7 pg to 20 pg per formulation, even more preferably between 8 pg and 15 pg per formulation, most preferably 9, 10, 11, or 12 pg per formulation, or any amount therein between. Preferably, the source of vitamin D is cholecalciferol (vitamin D3).
Preferably, said formulation comprises vitamin A in an amount between 100 pg and 6000 pg per formulation, more preferably from 200 pg to 3000 pg per formulation, even more preferably from 400 pg to 1200 pg per formulation, most preferably from 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000 or 1100 pg per formulation or any amount therein between. Preferably, the source of vitamin A is beta-carotene.
Preferably, said formulation comprises vitamin E in an amount between 5 mg to 25 mg per formulation, more preferably between 7 mg and 20 mg per formulation, even more preferably between 8 mg to 15 mg per formulation, most preferably of 9, 10, 11, or 12 mg per formulation, or any amount therein between. Preferably, the source of vitamin E is tocopherol.
Preferably, said formulation comprises vitamin C in an amount between 10 mg to 2000 mg per formulation, more preferably between 20 mg to 500 mg per formulation, even more preferably between 30 mg to 150 mg per formulation, most preferably from 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 or 110 mg per formulation, or any amount therein between. Preferably, the source of vitamin C is ascorbic acid.
This is advantageous as this comprises the recommended daily amount for vitamin D, A, E or C and as vitamin D, A, E or C or any combination of one or more vitamins provides a synergistic effect with regards to the intake of poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids.
Preferably, said formulation comprises vitamin K or phytomenadione in an amount of 5 and 500 pg, more preferably between 10 and 300 pg, more preferably between 15 and 50 pg, even more preferably between 20 and 35 pg, most prefera- bly 20, 22, 24, 28, 30, 32 or 34 pg per formulation, or any amount therein between.
In a further embodiment, the aforementioned formulation may further contain vitamin Bl, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12.
According to a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a kit comprising one or more formulations wherein said formulations comprise one or more minerals, wherein said minerals are selected from the group of calcium, copper, iron, iodine, magnesium, selenium, zinc, manganese, chromium, biotin, or any combination thereof.
Preferably, said formulation comprises vitamin Bl l, selenium, iodine, or any combination thereof. Preferably, said formulation comprises iodine, vitamin D and/or vitamin C, or any combination thereof. This is advantageous as said formulation in this manner provides a source of vitamins and minerals and as in this way an adequate amount is taken in. Preferably, said formulation comprises between 1 % and 200 % of the recommended daily amount of one or more minerals, wherein the minerals are selected from the group consisting of calcium, copper, iron, iodine, magnesium, selenium,
zinc, manganese, chromium, biotin, or any combination thereof. More preferably, said formulation comprises between 5 % and 125 % of the recommended daily amount of one or more minerals, more preferably between 10 % and 100 %, even more preferably between 15 % and 90 %, most preferably 20 %, 25 %, 30 %, 35 %, 40 %, 45 %, 50 %, 55 %, 60 %, 65 %, 70 %, 75 %, 80 % or 85 %, or any value in between.
This is advantageous because one or more formulations for the intake of the recommended daily amount of polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids simultaneously provides at least partly the recommended daily amount of minerals to the user.
In a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a formulation wherein the ratio of phospholipid-bound versus triglyceride-bound omega-3 is between 1 :4 and 4: 1, more preferably between 1 :3 and 3: 1, most preferably between 1 : 2 and 2: 1.
The ratio mentioned above provides an optimum balance that meets the recommended daily amount of phospholipid- and triglyceride-bound omega-3 fatty acids. Such a balance does not only have a positive effect on the overall health of the consumer that requires a balanced daily amount of triglyceride/phospholipid- bound omega-3, but has also shown to be important for the absorption of vitamins and minerals from the formulation. In particular, vitamin C and D appear to be absorbed better in the presence of the specific omega-3 ratio. In another preferred embodiment, the formulation comprises only phospholipid- bound omega-3 fatty acids. In still another preferred form, the formulation comprises only triglyceride-bound omega-3 fatty acids.
Preferably, the present invention provides a formulation wherein the poly- unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids originate from a fish-based source or a non-fish- based source, such as, for example, from algae, seaweeds, plants, seeds, and/or eggs from birds.
The use of a non-fish-based source for poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids in the formulation has the advantage that the formulation does not have a marine taste and/or odour and therefore generates no aversion to the user during intake and/or as a result of reflux.
Preferably, the poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids originate from walnut oil, rape or rape seed oil, linseed oil, chia oil, hemp oil, soybean oil, perilla oil, algae, seaweed, egg yolk, or a combination of at least two of the oils specified above, most preferably, the poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids originate from said algae, egg yolk or a combination of both oils.
In a preferred embodiment, the omega-3 fatty acids according to the present invention may originate from eggs, preferably chicken eggs. In a further preferred embodiment, the omega-3 fatty acids such as DHA and EPA originate from egg yolk. Preferably, these omega-3 fatty acids shall comprise phospholipid-bound fatty acids.
In another preferred embodiment, the omega-3 acids such as DHA and EPA according to the present invention originate from algae or seaweed. Preferably, these omega-3 fatty acids will include triglyceride-bound fatty acids.
This has as advantage that a source is provided comprising a relatively high concentration of poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids. In addition, this has the advantage that said poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids show improved absorption and emulsion properties which ensures that the active ingredient is transported better to the targeted tissues in the human body. The above-mentioned fact also provides the advantage that the nutritional supplement is better tolerated upon intake, and does not give rise to or gives less rise to reflux. In a preferred embodiment, the omega-3 in the formulation according to the present invention will exist in liquid form, such as an oil or an emulsion.
In another embodiment, the present invention provides a kit comprising one or more formulations wherein said formulations comprise one or more omega-3 fatty acids in freeze- or spray-dried form. Preferably, the omega-3 fatty acids are provided spray-dried form.
The use of a freeze- or spray-dried oil or the oil mixture which comprise such omega-3 fatty acids, provides the advantage that the omega-3 fatty acids are substantially protected from hydrolysis or disintegration in any other manner, thereby preventing the loss of the active ingredient of the dietary supplement. This leads to a longer shelf life of the nutritional supplement. Therefore, it can be
avoided that part of the dietary supplements become worthless and should be disposed of as waste.
In addition to the above advantages, the use of the freeze- or spray-dried form of said omega-3 fatty acids has as an additional advantage of a lighter formulation. Such mass advantage is especially interesting in view of the transport of the nutritional supplements, for which a lighter nutritional supplement leads to less energy consumption during transport.
Preferably, the present invention provides a formulation wherein the concentration of poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids is between 10 and 100 mg per 100 g, and per 100 kcal.
More preferably, said formulation comprises omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in an amount of between 15 and 80 mg per 100 g and per 100 kcal, more prefera- bly between 20 and 60 mg per 100 g and per 100 kcal.
Even more preferably, the present invention provides a formulation wherein the concentration of poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids is between 20 and 40 mg per 100 g and per 100 kcal.
Preferably, the polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids are present in said formulation in an amount between 22 and 38 mg per 100 g and per 100 kcal, more preferably between 25 and 35 mg per 100 g and per 100 kcal, most preferably 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 mg per 100 g and per 100 kcal.
Preferably, the present invention provides a formulation comprising at least half of the recommended daily amount of poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids.
This has the advantage that the recommended daily amount can be taken in by means of two formulations, optionally with a period of time between intake of both formulations. Preferably, the period of time between intake of both formulations is between 1 and 16 hours, more preferably between 2 and 14 hours, even more preferably between 4 and 12 hours, most preferably 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11 hours, or any time period in between.
Preferably, the present invention provides a formulation comprising at least the daily recommended amount of poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids. This has the
advantage that the recommended daily amount can be taken up by means of only one formulation.
Preferably, the present invention provides a formulation wherein the poly- unsaturated omega-3 fatty acid is DHA.
According to one embodiment, the present invention provides a kit, wherein said formulation comprises one or more excipients, selected from the group consisting of dilution agents, filling agents, granulation agents, processing agents, lubricants, disintegrating agents, flavouring and sweetening agents, and polymer coating.
According to a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a kit comprising one or more formulations wherein all types of formulations together are suitable for an entire human population of 4 years and older.
According to a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a kit comprising one or more formulations wherein at least one type of formulations is suitable for individuals of the female gender. According to a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a kit comprising one or more formulations wherein at least one type of formulations is suitable for individuals of the male gender.
According to a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a kit comprising one or more formulations wherein at least one type of formulation is suita- ble for growing children between 4 and 10 years old.
More preferably, said type of formulation, suitable for growing children between 4 and 10 years old, is provided with a total amount of DAH and EPA of 5 to 1000 mg per 100 mg per 100 kcal, and is optionally further supplemented with a binding agent and additives. More preferably from 10 to 200 mg per 100 mg per 100 kcal. Even more preferably from 20 to 100 mg per 100 mg per 100 kcal. Most preferably from 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 mg per 100 mg per 100 kcal, or any value in between. More preferably, said type of formulation, suitable for growing children between 4 and 10 years old, is provided with one or more nutrients from Table 1. More preferably, said type of formulation is provided with one or more nutrients of Table 1
in an amount of 1 % to 1000 % of the amount indicated in Table 1. Even more preferably, said nutrients are comprised in an amount of 10 % to 300 %, more preferably in an amount of 50 to 200 % of the amounts shown in Table 1. According to a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a kit comprising one or more formulations wherein at least one type of formulation is suitable for girls between 11 and 18 years old.
More preferably, said type of formulation, suitable for girls between 11 and 18 years old, provided with a total amount of EPA and DAH of 5 to 1000 mg per 100 mg and per 100 kcal, optionally further supplemented with a binding agent and additives. More preferably from 10 to 200 mg per 100 mg and per 100 kcal. Even more preferably from 20 to 100 mg per 100 mg and per 100 kcal. Most preferably from 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 mg per 100 mg and per 100 kcal, or any amount in between.
More preferably, said type of formulation, suitable for girls between 11 and 18 years old, is provided with one or more nutrients from Table 2. More preferably, said type of formulation is provided with one or more nutrients from Table 2, in an amount of 1 % to 1000 % of the amount indicated in Table 2. According to a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a kit comprising one or more formulations wherein at least one type of formulation is suitable for pregnant women (preferably older than 20 years).
More preferably, said type of formulation, suitable for pregnant women (older than 20 years), is provided with a total amount of DAH and EPA of 5 to 1000 mg per 100 mg and per 100 kcal is, optionally further supplemented with a binding agent and additives. Most preferably from 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 mg per 100 mg and per 100 kcal, or any amount in between.

In a second aspect, the present invention provides a method of composing a kit according to the first aspect of the invention, comprising the steps of:
(i) including a first type of formulation in a separate container,
( ii ) grouping of at least two separate containers comprising a different type of formulation, and
( iii ) including said separate containers in a protective covering.
In what follows, the invention is described by means of non-limiting examples which illustrate the invention, and which are not intended to or should not be in- terpreted to limit the scope of the invention.

EXAMPLE 1
A kit comprising 8 different types of formulations, of which a first type of formulation according to a composition in accordance with Table 1, a second type of formulation according to a composition in accordance with Table 2, a third type of formulation according to a composition in accordance with Table 3, a fourth type of formulation according to a composition in accordance with Table 4, a fifth type of formulation according to a composition in accordance with Table 5, a sixth type of formulation in according to a composition in accordance with Table 6, a seventh type of formulation in according to a composition according to in accordance with Table 7, and a formulation according to an eighth type of composition in accord- ance with Table 8.
The formulation is preferably contained in a softgel. EXAMPLE 2
A kit according to example 1, wherein each formulation comprises a total amount of 80 mg of DAH per 100 mg and per 100 kcal.
It is assumed that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described above and that a number of modifications or changes to the described examples, can be added without re-evaluating the appended claims.
Claims
1. Kit comprising at least two types of formulations with a different composi- tion, each formulation comprising :
( i ) one or more poly-unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids; and
( ii ) one or more vitamins, minerals and/or essential amino acids;
wherein each type of formulation is included in a separate container and wherein all types together are suitable for an entire human population.
2. Kit according to claim 1, comprising 8 different types of formulations.
3. Kit according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the formulation comprises at least 2 vitamins, including vitamin D, characterized in that vit- amin D is present in the formulation in an amount higher than the recommended daily amount, and wherein the other vitamin(s), with the exception of vitamin B9 if present, is present in an amount lower than the recommended daily amount.
4. Kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the vitamins are selected from the group comprising vitamin A, vitamin Bl, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin B9, vitamin Bl l, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin D, vitamin K, or any combination thereof.
5. Kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the minerals are selected from the group of calcium, copper, iron, iodine, magnesium, selenium, zinc, manganese, chromium, biotin, or any combination thereof.
6. Kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein all types together are suitable for an entire human population of 4 years and older.
7. Kit according to claim 6, wherein at least one type of said formulation is suitable for growing children between 4 and 10 years old.
8. Kit according to claim 7, characterised in that the type of formulation, suitable for growing children between 4 and 10 years old, comprises a source of omega-3, between 150 and 300 % RDA of vitamin D, between 10 and 50 %
RDA of vitamin A, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin E, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin K, between 15 and 45 % RDA of vitamin Bl, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin B3, between 20 and 75 % RDA of folic acid, between 5 and 40 % RDA of vitamin C, between 10 and 50 % RDA of calcium, between 30 and 75 % RDA of copper, between 20 and 50 % RDA of iron, between 15 and 50 % RDA of iodine, between 10 and 40 % RDA of magnesium, between 10 and 40 % RDA of selenium, and between 25 and 60 % RDA of zinc.
9. Kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one type of formulation is suitable for girls between 11 and 18 years old.
10. Kit according to claim 9, characterised in that the type of formulation, suitable for girls between 11 and 18 years old, comprises a source of omega-3, between 150 and 300 % RDA of vitamin D, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin A, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin E, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin K, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin B3, between 20 and 75 % RDA of folic acid, between 5 and 40 % RDA of vitamin C, between 30 and 75 % RDA of biotin, between 10 and 50 % RDA of calcium, between 30 and 75 % RDA of copper, between 30 and 75 % RDA of iron, between 15 and 50 % RDA of iodine, between 10 and 40 % RDA of magnesium, between 10 and 40 % RDA of selenium, between 15 and 50 % RDA of manganese, and between 25 and 60 % RDA of zinc.
11. Kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one type of formulation is suitable for boys between 11 and 18 years old.
12. Kit according to claim 11, characterized in that the type of formulation, suitable for boys between 11 and 18 years old, comprises a source of omega-3, between 150 and 300 % RDA of vitamin D, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin A, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin E, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin K, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin B3, between 20 and 50 % RDA of vitamin B6, between 20 and 75 % RDA of folic acid, between 5 and 40 % RDA of vitamin C, between 10 and 50 % RDA of calcium, between 30 and 75 % RDA of copper, between 30 and 75 % RDA of iron, between 15 and 50 % RDA of iodine, between 10 and 40 % RDA of magnesium, between 10 and 40 % RDA of selenium, and between 25 and 60 % RDA of zinc.
13. Kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one type of formulation is suitable for pregnant women.

Kit according to claim 13, characterized in that the type of formulation, suitable for pregnant women, comprises a source of omega-3, between 150 and 300 % RDA of vitamin D, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin A, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin E, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin K, between 15 and 50 % RDA of vitamin B6, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin Bl, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin B2, between 150 and 300 % RDA of folic acid, between 20 and 75 % RDA of vitamin B12, between 5 and 40 % RDA of vitamin C, between 30 and 75 % RDA of biotin, between 10 and 50 % RDA of calcium, between 30 and 75 % RDA of iron, between 15 and 50 % RDA of iodine, between 10 and 40 % RDA of magnesium, between 10 and 40 % RDA of selenium, and between 25 and 60 % RDA of zinc.
15. Kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one type of formulation is suitable for women between 19 and 54 years old.

Kit according to claim 15, characterized in that the type of formulation, suitable for women between 19 and 54 years old, comprises a source of omega- 3, between 150 and 300 % RDA of vitamin D, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin A, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin E, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin K, between 15 and 50 % RDA of vitamin B3, between 10 and 50 % RDA of vitamin B5, between 50 and 150 % RDA of folic acid, between 20 and 75 % RDA of vitamin B12, between 5 and 40 % RDA of vitamin C, between 30 and 75 % RDA of biotin, between 10 and 50 % RDA of calcium, between 20 and 75 % RDA of copper, between 5 and 30 % RDA of chromium, between 30 and 75 % RDA of iron, between 15 and 50 % RDA of iodine, between 10 and 40 % RDA of magnesium, and between 10 and 40 % RDA of selenium.
17. Kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one type of formulation is suitable for men between 19 and 54 years old.

Kit according to the preceding claims, characterized in that the kit contains the following formulations: a formulation suitable for growing children between 4 and 10 years; a formulation suitable for girls between 11 and 18 years old; a formulation suitable for boys between 11 and 18 years old; a formulation suitable for pregnant women; a formulation suitable for women between 19 and 54 years old; a formulation suitable for men between 19 and 54 years old; a formulation suitable for women over the age of 55 years; and a formulation suitable for men over the age of 55 years.
24. Kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the formulation is contained within a softgel.
25. Method for assembling a kit according to any one of claims 1 to 24, comprising the steps of:
(i) including a first type of formulation in a separate container,
(ii) grouping of at least two separate containers comprising a different type of formulation, and
(iii) including said separate containers in a protective covering.
