Abstract
The present invention relates to an household appliance (1) comprising a panel (2), at least one opening (3) arranged on the panel (2), at least one knob (4) disposed on the opening (3) and providing the selection of various program parameters by being moved and at least one circuit board (5) disposed behind the panel (2).
Description
The present invention relates to a household appliance comprising a knob disposed on the panel and which provides ease of utilization.
In the state of the art, in household appliances, rotary knobs are widely used which provide the operation of the household appliances or the setting of the programs. The information like the program parameters or operation settings selected by moving the knob is shown on a screen. The screen and the knob disposed at different sections of the panel occupy separate spaces on the panel. This situation prevents effective utilization of the area on the panel. Furthermore, utilization becomes difficult since the user has to move the knob while monitoring the screen.
In the state of the art Patent Application No. WO2006019220, LED (light emitting diodes) displays are disclosed, disposed around the program knob which facilitate the selection and display of the desired program in the washing machine.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of a household appliance comprising a knob which enables the user to easily monitor the information like operation settings or program parameters by using the area on the panel effectively.
The household appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a knob disposed on the panel, enabling the user to select various programs and operation settings and a circuit board that detects the selected information. The knob comprises a screen thereon which shows the program or the operation information. The LED or LCD screen displays photographic images and/or information like the television, cellular phone or computer monitor. With the movement of the knob, any kind of information relating to the desired program option or the state of the operation can be viewed and selected from the screen on the knob. Thus, the user can view and select the program or operation settings that change with the movement of the knob without looking at a different place on the panel while rotating the knob. By means of the screen being disposed on the knob, the panel area is used effectively and an esthetic appearance is maintained.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob comprises a cylindrical body whereon the screen is disposed and a ring-shaped outer sheath that surrounds the body. The outer sheath is moved by the user, thus the program parameters or operation settings can be changed and selected. Since the body is situated almost at the center of the outer sheath, reading the screen is easy.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the parameters shown on the screen change as the outer sheath is moved. When the desired parameter is displayed on the screen, this parameter is selected by stopping the movement of the outer sheath.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob comprises a body that remains stationary during the movement of the outer sheath. The information on the screen disposed on the body can be easily read by means of the body remaining stationary while the outer sheath moves.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob comprises an inner sheath that is mounted on the body, whereon the outer sheath is disposed, which transmits the changed and selected program parameters by the movement of the outer sheath to the circuit board. During this process, the inner sheath provides data transfer between the outer sheath and the circuit board.
In a derivative of this embodiment, the knob comprises more than one step arranged on the inner sheath, each one corresponding to a program parameter and a spring disposed on the outer sheath and providing the selection of the program parameters by passing over the steps with the movement of the outer sheath. The steps are arranged circularly on the inner sheath at certain intervals. Each step corresponds to a program parameter predetermined by the producer. When the outer sheath is rotated by the user, the program or operation information corresponding to the respective step is displayed on the screen.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob comprises the screen that is embedded into the body. Thus, dust, dirt, foreign substances etc. are not accumulated around the screen and the esthetic perception of the user is improved.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob rotates. As the knob is rotated, the program information changes thus the user can select the desired program.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the screen comprises at least two grids wherein the program parameter of at least one grid changes with the movement of the knob while the parameters shown by the other grids do not change. Thus, various information can be shown on the screen simultaneously.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob comprises a transmitter disposed on the screen and providing the contact between the screen and the circuit board. The transmitter transfers the program or operation information and the detected user selection transmitted by the circuit board to the screen.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob comprises a protector disposed in front of the screen and protecting the screen. The protector isolates the screen from external factors.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the body comprises at least one pin on the portion thereof facing the panel and the panel comprises at least one fixing hole whereby the body is fastened to the panel by inserting the pin therein. By means of inserting the pin into the fixing hole, the body is fixed to the panel. Consequently, the information on the screen situated on the body can be displayed properly.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the outer sheath comprises at least one claw on the portion thereof facing the body and the body comprises at least one housing thereon wherein the claw is movably inserted. Thus, the outer sheath enables the program, operation settings, etc. to be changed and selected by moving on the body.
In different embodiments of the present invention, the household appliance is a dishwasher, a washing machine or an oven.
By means of the present invention, a household appliance is realized which comprises an esthetic knob, providing ease of utilization, occupying less space and whereby the information relating to the selected program or the operation state can be viewed from the screen thereon.
The household appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:

The household appliance (1) of the present invention comprises a panel (2), at least one opening (3) arranged on the panel (2), at least one knob (4) disposed on the opening (3) and providing the selection of various program parameters by being moved and at least one circuit board (5) disposed behind the panel (2). The movement of the knob (4) is transmitted to the circuit board (5) that is connected to the knob (4), and thus the circuit board (5) provides the execution of the selected program. The knob (4) comprises a screen (6) disposed thereon and displaying the program parameters. The LED or LCD screen (6) displays photographic images and/or information like the television, cellular phone or computer monitor. An esthetic appearance is maintained since the information relating to the household appliance (1) can be displayed on the screen (6) disposed on the knob (4). The program parameters changed by the movement of the knob (4) are easily monitored from the screen (6). Furthermore, the area on the panel (2) is provided to be used effectively since the knob (4) and the screen (6) do not occupy separate spaces on the panel (2).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob (4) comprises a cylindrical body (8) whereon the screen (6) is disposed and a circular outer sheath (7) that surrounds the body (8). The screen (6) is disposed rigidly to the body (8) by means of the cylindrical body (8). The outer sheath (7) surrounds the screen (6) all around and thus focusing on the image on the screen (6) becomes easier.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the screen (6) displays the parameters that change with the movement of the outer sheath (7). Selection of parameter is realized by stopping the movement of the outer sheath (7). Thus, all the parameters can be viewed from the screen (6) easily.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob (4) comprises a body (8) that remains stationary during the movement of the outer sheath (7). By means of the body (8) not moving, the information displayed on the screen (6) remains at the position determined during production and reading the information is facilitated.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob (4) comprises an inner sheath (9) that is mounted on the body (8), whereon the outer sheath (7) is disposed and which transmits the change and selection of the program parameters by the movement of the outer sheath (7) to the circuit board (5).

In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob (4) rotates. The desired program parameter is selected as the knob (4) is rotated around itself. Viewing the program parameters from the screen (6) on the knob (4), while the knob (4) is being rotated, provides ease of utilization.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the screen (6) comprises at least two grids wherein the program parameter of at least one grid changes with the movement of the knob (4) while the parameters displayed by the other grids do not change. Thus, various information is provided to be viewed from the screen (6) that is split into grids. For example, the user, while viewing the program options for synthetic, cotton, wool etc., can also monitor parameters like program duration, temperature, detergent requirement on the same screen (6).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob (4) comprises a transmitter (12) disposed on the screen (6), which provides the contact between the screen (6) and the circuit board (5). The transmitter (12) provides data transfer between the circuit board (5) and the screen (6).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the knob (4) comprises a protector (13) disposed thereon and protecting the screen (6). The protector (13) protects the screen (6) from external factors like, moisture, dust, dirt, impacts etc.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the body (8) comprises at least one pin on the portion thereof facing the panel (2) and the panel (2) comprises at least one fixing hole arranged thereon, whereby the body (8) is fixed to the panel (2) by inserting the pin therein. By means of fixing the body (8) immovably to the panel (2), the image of the screen (6) disposed on the body (8) can be viewed properly.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the outer sheath (7) comprises at least one claw on the portion thereof facing the body (8) and the body (8) comprises at least one housing (17) thereon wherein the claw is movably inserted. Thus, the outer sheath (7) enables the program, operation settings, etc. to be changed and selected by moving on the body (8).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance (1) is a dishwasher.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance (1) is a washing machine.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance (1) is an oven.
By means of the present invention, the program parameters that change with the movement of the knob (4) can be monitored from the screen (6) disposed on the knob (4). By means of the screen (6) being situated on the knob (4), the area on the panel (2) is used effectively. The user, while moving the knob (4) can also view the program information at the same time by looking at only one section on the panel (2). By means of the present invention, furthermore the esthetic perception of the user is improved.
It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments disclosed above and a person skilled in the art can easily introduce different embodiments. These different embodiments should also be considered within the scope of the claims of the present invention.
Claims (14)
- A household appliance (1) comprising a panel (2), at least one opening (3) arranged on the panel (2), at least one knob (4) disposed on the opening (3) that provides the selection of various program parameters or operation settings by being moved and at least one circuit board (5) disposed behind the panel (2), characterized by the knob (4) having a screen (6) disposed thereon and displaying the program parameters or the operation settings.
- A household appliance (1) as in Claim 1, characterized by the knob (4) comprising a cylindrical body (8) whereon the screen (6) is disposed and a circular outer sheath (7) that surrounds the body (8).
- A household appliance (1) as in Claim 2, characterized by the screen (6) whereon the parameters that change with the movement of the outer sheath (7) are displayed.
- A household appliance (1) as in Claim 2 or 3, characterized by the knob (4) comprising a body (8) that remains stationary during the movement of the outer sheath (7).
- A household appliance (1) as in Claims 2 to 4, characterized by the knob (4) comprising an inner sheath (9) that is mounted on the body (8), whereon the outer sheath (7) is disposed and which transmits the change and selection of the program parameters with the movement of the outer sheath (7) to the circuit board (5).
- A household appliance (1) as in Claim 5, characterized by the knob (4) comprising more than one step (10) arranged on the inner sheath (9), each one corresponding to a program parameter and a spring (11) disposed on the outer sheath (7) and providing the selection of the program parameters by passing over the steps (10) with the movement of the outer sheath (7).
- A household appliance (1) as in any one of the Claims 2 to 6, characterized by the knob (4) comprising the screen (6) that is embedded into the body (8).
- A household appliance (1) as in any one of the above claims, characterized by the rotary knob (4).
- A household appliance (1) as in any one of the above Claims, characterized by the screen (6) having at least two grids wherein the program parameter of at least one grid changes with the movement of the knob (4) while the parameters shown by the other grids do not change.
- A household appliance (1) as in any one of the above claims, characterized by the knob (4) comprising a transmitter (12) disposed on the screen (6) and providing the contact between the screen (6) and the circuit board (5).
- A household appliance (1) as in any one of the above claims, characterized by the knob (4) comprising a protector (13) disposed thereon and protecting the screen (6).
