Description

DESCRIPTION
A TYPE OF STRAINER WITH FILTER FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a strainer with filter preventing ingression of dirt and foreign materials that can be present in the fluids provided in the mechanical installations into to the line.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
As is known, the fluids provided in the mechanical installations are required to be circulated free of dirt and/or foreign materials and clean for proper functioning of the equipment and devices provided on said installations without being damaged. Because, installation elements face problems such as blockage, failure, etc. over time resulting from the fluid circulating in the installation not being clean. In order to achieve this, strainers provided with a filter mechanism are generally mounted inside the mechanical installations.
Strainers used in the existing applications are connected with flange type connections generally comprising casing flanges being same as the standard flanges welded on the installation pipes. However, application area of said currently used strainers is limited as they comprise the same casing flanges being same as the standard flanges welded on the installation pipes. Because, at times, depending upon the utilization area of the mechanical installations, installation pipes having different casing forms so called lug type, wafer type or flange type connections can be used. Current strainers, on the other hand, in terms of casing structures thereof, can only be adapted to installation pipes having standard flange connections.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION In this detailed description, the strainer (10) according to the present invention is described only for a better understanding of the subject with examples without restrictive effect. Accordingly, in the following description and figures, said strainer (10) is described as being adapted to an installation having passage of fluids such as water, hot water, superheated water, pressurized air, gases, industrial treatments, etc. However, it can also be adapted to different systems by small revisions to be made on the present invention.
Referring to the Figures 1a and 1b, general views of a strainer (10) from different angles are given. Said strainer (10) principally comprises a circular shaped main casing (11) having a plurality of connection holes (111) provided with a specific arrangement around thereof. Number of said connection openings (111) is principally eight and if an imaginary line is considered between them, said line would exhibit an octagonal form. An opening is provided in the middle of «aid main casing (11) and a filter (12) is connected to the main casing (1 ) so as to fill said opening. A flange (13) is provided so as to be situated between the filter (12) and the main casing (11) for bearing said filter (12) inside the main casing (11). Two threads situated at two points being symmetrical to each other are cut on the main casing (11). At least one discharge plug (14) is adapted on the thread provided, with respect to the other one, on the lower surface of the main casing (11). At least one sealing element (18) is provided between said discharge plug (14) and the main casing (11). An o-ring and/or a copper gasket are principally used as said sealing element (18). At least one backwash plug (15) is screwed to the other thread provided on the main casing (11). A sealing element (18) is also adapted to the region provided between said backwash plug (15) and the main casing (11). Again, an o-ring and/or a copper gasket are principally used as the sealing element (18). At least one eyebolt (16) comprising a ring for holding is also provided on the main casing (11). In addition, a direction embossing (17) in the form of an arrow is embossed on the main casing (1 ) during casting for being a guide during mounting of the strainer (10) to the respective installation on the main casing (11).
To describe in detail, inlet and outlet faces of the strainer (10) are positioned so as to coincide with the flanges of the installation. The end of the arrow provided as direction embossing (17) is positioned so as to show the flowing direction of water and the strainer (10) is fixed by means of tightening the nuts of the bolts and or stud bolts passing through the connection holes (111) provided thereon. Thus, the strainer (10) is fixed to the mechanical installation.
The strainer (10) according to the present invention, due to the form thereof, can be adapted to all horizontal and vertical lines without any limitation. There is no restriction on the strainer's (10) position and orientation on the line where it is mounted.
Fluid already passes through said strainer during its utilization inside the installation. Over time dirt and/or foreign material accumulates in the fluid and moves with said fluid. The filter (12) retains dirt and/or foreign materials that can be present in the fluid and prevents passage thereof during the flow of the fluid through the region provided with the strainer (10). Thus, dirt and/or f reigp materials and other particles are retained by the filter (12) as the fluid continues to flow through the installation after the region provided with the strainer (10). Said materials are collected below the filter (12). Thus, the fluid free of dirt and foreign materials continues to flow through the installation in a cleaned manner. In this case, clean fluid is always circulated in the installation and the risk of encountering a situation such as any blockage, failure, etc. of the installation is greatly reduced.
Accumulation of dirt in the filter (12) resulting from retention of the dirt and foreign materials by the filter (12) of the strainer (10) is therefore observed over time. As a result, efficient flow of the fluid cannot be provided. Thus, in order to solve this filter should be cleaned from time to time by being removed. The cleaning process can be performed easily in certain periods and/or when required thanks to the new structure of the strainer (10) according to the present invention. Namely, the discharge plug (14) is unscrewed by being turned counterclockwise around its center when the filter (12) would be cleaned. The filter (12) is cleaned as a result of removing the accumulated dirt from the hole adapted with the discharge plug (14). Thanks to the mountability and demountability function of the discharge plug (14), cleaning of the filter (12) is provided as well as operations such as discharge of the line, water sampling from the line, discharge of possible air accumulation in the line can be performed when required. In addition, no fluid leaks from the line when the discharge plug (14) is screwed on the main casing (11) thanks to the presence of the sealing element provided in the region provided with connection between the discharge plug (14) and the main casing (11).
Besides, both the discharge plug (14) and the backwash plug (15) are brought to the open position for enabling again the cleaning of the filter (12) when required. Then, the dirt accumulated by sticking onto the filter (12) is taken out of the line from the hole of the removed discharge plug (14) when the pressurized water is supplied through the hole appearing by removing the backwash plug (15). Again, the strainer (10) is easily removed from the line in order to enable general cleaning of the filter (12) or replacement of the filter (12) in certain periods or when required. In order to achieve this, primarily the fluid flow is stopped by closing the line. Then, nuts of the stud bolts or bolts connecting the strainer (10) to the flanges welded on the installation are removed in a controlled manner by being loosened. One or two stud bolts are kept in the loosened state, without being removed from the hole in order to maintain the positions of the installation pipes. The strainer (10) is removed from the place by moving the installation flanges away from each other up to the degree allowing for removal of the strainer (10) from the gap. Then, the filter (12) is detached from the main casing (1 ) by removing the flange (13) connecting said filter to the main casing (11). Thus, complete maintenance and cleaning or replacement, if required, of the filter (12) detached from the main casing (11) is provided. Subsequently, first, the filter (12) is again adapted to the main casing (11) and then, said main casing (11) is again adapted to the installation pipes.
As an alternative embodiment of the present invention, connection type of the main casing (11) can be manufactured as wafer type, lug type or flange type.
Again, as an alternative embodiment of the present invention, the flange (13) can be connected to the main casing (11) by means of bolts. The discharge plug (14) and the backwash plug (15) can also be connected to the main casing (11) by means of hex bolts manufactured from transmission material or stainless steel material.
Scope of the protection of the present invention is specified in the appended claims, wherein it cannot be limited to those described for the purpose of illustration in this detailed description. Because, it is obvious that a person skilled in the art may suggest similar structures in consideration of those described above without departing from the main subject of the present invention.
