- reception means are also provided for the optical fiber 2.
- these reception means notably take the form of a V-shaped groove 31.

- the barrier layer is the ⁇ 111> plane.
- the depth of the groove is determined by the width of the etching strip that defines the stop plans.
- connection means are also provided on the face 30 of the substrate.
- These connection means are typically constituted by metal pellets which can be obtained by deposition of a conductive metal, photolithography and etching steps being then performed.
- an interconnect ball 13 is deposited on the stud 12.

- This adhesive increases the mechanical strength of the device. It also has a thermal function by promoting conduction.

- the glue is deposited after the introduction of the optical module into the housing; it may intervene during or after the positioning of the optical fiber in the groove, according to the techniques used.
- the optical module 3 is then introduced into the housing 1, the face 30 comprising the integrated circuit, the groove 31 and the connection means electrical being facing the optical fiber and the pad 12. This is a flip-chip type assembly.
- the assembly of the returned module in the housing requires a precision in the alignment of between 5 and 10 ⁇ m.
- This accuracy is obtained by using reporting or hybridization machines used in microelectronic production. These machines manipulate the chip with a robotic arm above the housing. They simultaneously display all the faces to be aligned, align them and proceed to assembly. These machines are in particular marketed by the DATACON or SUSS companies.
- Alignment of the optical module on the housing aligns the optical fiber 2 on the groove 31, to ensure its housing in the groove.
- the optical fiber 2 is passively centered thanks to the groove 31.
- FIG. 4 illustrates the fiber 2 with its end 20 inserted in the groove 31.
- the position z of the optical axis 21 of the optical fiber with respect to the face 30 depends on the width l of the groove as well as the angle ⁇ and the diameter d of the optical fiber.
- the fiber is initially slightly inclined upwards relative to the plane of the groove. This inclination is typically of the order of a few degrees and is given by the shape of the opening 10 in the housing.
- the length L of the V-groove is typically between 3 and 7 mm.
- the housing comprises several optical fibers
- relatively long grooves may make it possible to make up for any initial misalignment between the optical fibers.
- the alignment of the substrate on the housing also makes it possible to align the electrical connection means provided on the face 30 of the substrate with the electrical connection means of the housing, here the stud 12.
- the electrical connection means provided on the substrate and on the housing are designed to be vis-à-vis, when the substrate and the housing are aligned.
- the positioning tolerance of the optical module 3 relative to the pad 12 is typically greater than 10 ⁇ m.
- the interconnect ball 13 is located between the electrical connection means of the face 30 and the stud 12.
- the electrical connection can for example be achieved through the following two techniques.
- gold balls are made on the electrical connection pads of the housing. These are typically balls whose diameter is between 30 and 50 pm which are made by a machine called "bail bonding".
- the substrate is applied to the connection pads thanks to the arm of the hybridization machine, with a pressure of up to several kilograms per cm 2 .
- the substrate is heated to a temperature between 100 and 200 ° C, to promote the formation of intermediate alloy between the gold beads and the electrical connection pads of the substrate. This ensures good electrical conduction.
- the adhesive layer 4 is also crosslinked, in order to guarantee the mechanical strength.
- the adhesive may be crosslinked thermally or optically, if it is for example a UV light crosslinking adhesive.
- the glue can be introduced into the housing when positioning the optical fiber in the groove.
- the electrical connection can also be achieved by the soft soldering technique on fusible beads, also known as the C4 method (Controlled Collapse Chip Connection in English terminology).
- the balls 13 are made of a fusible alloy such as AgCuSn, In or SnPb. These fusible alloy balls are also made on the electrical connection pads of the substrate.
- They can be obtained by screen printing methods or methods comprising a deposition step, photolithography and etching.
- the substrate 3 is placed on the electrical connection pads of the housing through the motorized arm of the hybridization machine.
- the substrate is then heated to a temperature between 200 and 300 ° C to remelt the alloy balls and form intermetallic alloys between the alloy balls formed on both the housing and the substrate.
- the adhesive layer 4 is thermally or optically crosslinked after heating the substrate. It can be introduced into the housing after positioning the optical fiber in the groove.
- the electrical connections obtained do not require wires and they are favorable to the good transmission of high frequency signals.
- optical fiber 2 When the optical fiber 2 is centered in the groove 31, it is aligned with the optical coupling means 33 provided on the face 30 of the substrate.
- This planar coupling means makes it possible to adapt the mode diameter of the optical fiber 2 to that of the waveguide 32.
- the optical fiber 2 has a mode diameter which is typically of the order of 10 ⁇ m. while the mode diameter of the waveguide is typically less than 3 ⁇ m.
- This coupling means may in particular be in the form of a structure commonly called "tap" which is placed between the end of the waveguide and the groove.
- a 3D adiabatic typing is obtained from a horizontal and vertical expansion of a silicon waveguide. This expansion makes it possible to reach mode diameters of up to 10pm. Thus, insertion losses of less than 1 dB have been demonstrated.
- this type of coupling structure has the disadvantage of requiring rather thick layers of silicon, as well as gray-scale photolithography processes.
- the optical coupling face located at the edge of the groove requires finishing polishing and antireflection treatment because the silicon has a high refractive index. This can limit the use of this type in mass production.
- An inverted adiabatic tap is obtained by narrowing a silicon waveguide within a second guide of larger size and lower refractive index. This narrowing causes the adiabatic expulsion of the field and its conversion to the dimensions of the second guide to the edge of the groove. Because of a technological limitation on the thicknesses of layers stacked to a few microns, the magnification of the optical mode is generally limited to less than 5pm. Therefore, this limitation requires the use of lenticular fibers or fibers with high numerical aperture. A significant advantage of this type of structure is the low level of insertion losses that can be obtained over a wide spectral band: less than 0.5dB has been demonstrated over more than 500nm.
- the alignment accuracy between the optical axis 21 of the fiber 2 and the coupling means 33 must typically be less than 2 ⁇ m in order to obtain a good coupling ratio, that is to say greater than 50%.
- the presence of the groove 31 provides this level of precision.
- the tolerance along the optical axis of the fiber is, for its part, a few tens of microns.
- the optical fiber can be precisely aligned with the optical coupling means provided on the substrate. Furthermore, no optical interface is necessary to ensure the optical connection between the optical fiber and the optical means provided on the substrate, in addition to the coupling means for adapting the mode diameters.
- the alignment tolerance of the optical module on the housing is between 5 and 10 ⁇ m, whereas with the devices according to the state of the art, the alignment tolerance is higher. weak, of the order of 1 pm. Indeed, the greatest accuracy must be obtained during the alignment of the optical fiber and the coupling means.
- this alignment is mainly achieved through the groove 31 which is provided on the substrate and not on the housing. Under these conditions, the alignment of the substrate on the housing can be achieved with a less important precision. This makes it possible to implement faster and less expensive transfer techniques than those used in the state of the art.
- the cover that closes the housing is assembled on the latter when the optical and electrical connections are made.
- FIG. 5 illustrates an alternative embodiment of the optoelectronic device according to the invention.
- the optical fiber or fibers are placed in an optical connector 22.
- This connector 22 is inserted, by appropriate means, into the housing 1, the optical fiber 2 always passing through an opening 10 provided in the housing.
- FIG. 6 illustrates another variant embodiment of the device according to the invention.
- a stop 14 is provided in the bottom 11 of the housing 1. It is positioned so as to face the groove 31 provided in the substrate 3.
- this wedge When assembling the substrate in the housing, this wedge can contribute to improving the plating of the optical fiber at the bottom of the groove 31.
- an optical fiber typically has a diameter of 125 ⁇ m
- an electrical connection pad has a diameter of between 30 and 100 ⁇ m
- an interconnect ball has a thickness of between 10 and 30 ⁇ m
- a substrate measures between 5 and 15 mm side and has a thickness of between 0.2 and 1 mm.

Description
Procédé et dispositif optoélectronique assurant la connexion électrique et optique d'un module optique Optoelectronic method and device providing the electrical and optical connection of an optical module
The invention relates to the field of optoelectronics and, more particularly, that of the packaging of optoelectronic modules.
In general, it seeks to integrate on the same chip more optical beam management functions, such as multiplexing, demultiplexing, modulation or spectral routing. All these functions are necessary, as well for optical links very short distance, of the order of a millimeter, or very long distance, of the order of several kilometers. This is a solution to increasing the throughput of interconnect chips.
This need for integration requires a strong miniaturization of the optical circuit which leads to a miniaturization of the section of the planar optical guides to submicron dimensions, typically of the order of 10 -1 μιη 2. However, for medium and long applications distances, that is to say between a few meters and several kilometers, the preferred optical transport means is the optical fiber whose diameter is between one and several tens of microns.
This is why light coupling systems must be provided between the planar optical guides and the optical fibers, so as to compensate for this non-adaptation of the dimensions.
Several modes of coupling between a waveguide and an optical fiber are conventionally used. Thus, the optical fiber can be mounted in abutment or have a lentillated end. It can also be coupled to the light guide via one or two lenses.
Coupling can also be provided by means of a diffraction grating.
Furthermore, an optoelectronic module is conventionally mounted in a housing which not only ensures its protection as well as heat dissipation and / or temperature regulation, but also its interconnection with the external environment, both electrically and optically. The electrical connection and the optical connection are often made sequentially.
Group IV Photonics, 2008, Italy, pp. 371-373. In this case, the electrical connection is made by means of wires. In this regard, reference can be made to the article "g-Pack - A generic testbed package for Silicon photonics devices" by L. Zimmermann et al., Proc. Group IV Photonics, 2008, Italy, pp. 371-373.
This makes it possible to leave the active face of the optoelectronic module accessible to allow, in a second step, to perform the optical connection with an optical fiber,
Other solutions have been proposed to avoid the use of connection wires.
US Pat. No. 6,285,043 relates in particular to an optoelectronic circuit consisting of a chip comprising the active components and a module for the passive components.
The electrical connection between the chip and the module is achieved by means of solder balls. Indeed, the chip and the module are arranged so that their faces carrying the components are vis-à-vis. It is a so-called "flipped chip" or "flip-chip" type, in English terminology.
The solder balls can thus be arranged between the solder pads provided on these two faces and directly make the electrical connection.
No wire is then necessary and this mode of connection is more favorable to a good transmission of signals at high frequency.
The optical connection between the chip and the module is achieved simultaneously through grooves provided in the module and in which are maintained and aligned optical fibers.
However, mirrors are provided to provide the optical link between the optical fibers and optical components of the chip.
It can also be noted that the optical fibers are positioned relative to the module. It is therefore appropriate that the module and the chip are precisely aligned so that the mirrors effectively provide the optical link.
Moreover, in a "flip-chip" type assembly, the active components are difficult to access since the face that contains them is turned over and they are, in addition, coated with glue.
There may also be mentioned EP-1 909 124 which describes an optical device comprising an assembly cover and optical connection between a waveguide and an optical fiber.
The waveguide is embedded on a substrate and the optical fiber is inserted into a connector.
The electrical connection between the cover and the substrate supporting the waveguide is provided by means of solder balls.
Moreover, the optical connection between the waveguide and the optical fiber is achieved by means of a groove formed in the cover and located in the extension of the optical axis, and an optical system provided in the groove for divert to the fiber a light beam from the guide or vice versa.
This optical system comprises a lens and a mirror.
In addition, a diffraction grating is provided on the substrate to adapt the size of the beams.
Thus, the state of the art systematically provides, in addition to an optical coupling means for adapting the size of the waveguide and optical fiber mode diameters, a light return structure between the waveguide guide and the optical guide. wave and optical fiber, which reduces the performance of the optical connection. Indeed, these interfaces necessarily create losses.
The object of the invention is to overcome these drawbacks by proposing a method and an optoelectronic device providing both an optical connection, without an interface between an optical medium of the waveguide type and an optical fiber, and an electrical connection, the device optoelectronics also ensuring the function of a packaging.
- au moins une fibre optique, Thus, the invention relates to an optoelectronic device comprising: at least one optical fiber,
Preferably, the receiving means comprise at least one groove for an optical fiber.
Moreover, the coupling means between an optical fiber and a waveguide may be constituted by an adaptation portion of the optical fiber mode diameter.
In an alternative embodiment, said at least one optical fiber is placed in an optical connector.
The first and second electrical connection means are advantageously arranged vis-à-vis.
In a preferred embodiment, the first and second electrical connection means are metal pellets and the electrical connection is made by means of interconnect balls, no wire being thus necessary to ensure the electrical connection.
In an alternative embodiment, the housing comprises at least one stop in its bottom, said at least one optical fiber being disposed between the receiving means and said at least one stop. Thus, the optoelectronic device according to the invention makes it possible simultaneously to carry out the optical connection and the electrical connection of the module, the electrical connection being able to take place wirelessly and the optical connection being made without a structure for returning the light between the guide of the module. wave and the optical fiber.
On the other hand, since the optical fiber is aligned directly with the optical module substrate and not with the package, the alignment tolerances between the substrate and the package may be greater than when the fiber is aligned with the package. The cost of producing the device is therefore reduced compared to devices known in the state of the art.
The invention also relates to a method of optical and electrical connection between an optical module and at least one optical fiber placed in a housing comprising the following steps:
(a) réalisation d'un boîtier comportant au moins une ouverture pour le passage d'au moins une fibre optique et des moyens de connexion électrique, (a) producing a housing comprising at least one opening for the passage of at least one optical fiber and electrical connection means,
(b) introduction de ladite au moins une fibre optique dans ladite au moins ouverture, (b) introducing said at least one optical fiber into said at least one opening,
(e) positioning said at least one optical fiber in the receiving means, the optical fiber being aligned with the coupling means to provide a direct optical connection with said at least one waveguide, and simultaneously making a connection electrical connection between the electrical connection means of the substrate and the electrical connection means of the housing. Advantageously, between steps (c) and (d), interconnect balls are deposited on the electrical connection means of the housing and, during step (d), the electrical connection means of the housing are positioned. in relation to the electrical connection means of the substrate and, during step (e), the substrate is heated to provide the electrical connection between the electrical connection means of the substrate and the electrical connection means of the housing, by means of the interconnect balls.
Preferably, after step (d), glue is introduced between the bottom of the housing and the first face of the substrate to maintain the optical fiber.
The invention will be better understood and other objects, features and advantages thereof will appear more clearly on reading the description which follows and which is made with reference to the appended drawings in which:

The elements common to the different figures will be identified by the same references.
FIG. 1 schematically illustrates a housing 1 which is intended to ensure the function of a packaging, that is to say the protection mechanical chip, heat dissipation and / or temperature regulation and optical and electrical interconnection with the external medium.
This housing comprises a cover which is not illustrated in the figures and which is assembled on the housing in a final embodiment step.
This housing has an opening 10 to allow the passage of an optical fiber 2. This fiber may be single-mode or multimode. The optical fiber 2 can then be fixed in the opening 10 by gluing or soldering.
Of course, several optical fibers can be inserted into the housing and the latter can have several openings.
For the sake of simplification, it will generally be referred to only one optical fiber in the following description.
Moreover, the end 20 of the optical fiber can be cleaved mechanically before being assembled in the housing. It can also be cleaved after assembly in the housing, using a remote technique, for example implementing a laser. In all cases, the cleavage makes it possible to obtain a good optical quality at the end of the fiber and thus a good transmission of the beam. This makes it possible to avoid the risks of diffusion and deflection of the beam.
The housing 1 may typically be made of ceramic, such as alumina or aluminum nitride, plastic, such as a liquid crystal polymer, or metal, such as Kovar.
The housing can be made by machining, molding or by photolithography and etching steps.
On the bottom 11 of the housing are provided electrical connection means. These means are constituted by an interconnection pad 12. Of course, the invention is not limited to this example and several pads could be provided. This pad 12 is typically made of a metal pad for soldering, brazing or thermocompression. It can be obtained by depositing a conductive metal, as copper or aluminum, photolithography then etching steps being then performed.
Finally, other components may be provided inside the housing. These may be active components, such as an amplifier or passive components.
The pad 12 typically has a diameter between 80 and 30 μιη for frequencies between 10 and 40 GHz.
The openings of the housing are designed to precisely position the fibers relative to the electrical connection pads. The positioning tolerance is between 10 and 20 μm, depending on the diameter of the studs.
FIG. 2 illustrates another step of the method according to the invention, in which an optical module 3 has been introduced into the housing 1.
This optical module has been previously made, from a substrate, an integrated circuit with at least one waveguide having been made on the first face 30 of the substrate. This waveguide is referenced 32 in FIG. 4. A coupling means between the waveguide 32 and the optical fiber 2 is also produced on the face 30. It is referenced 33 in FIG. 4.
The substrate is typically silicon and the techniques conventionally used in microelectronics can be implemented for mass production.
Other components may also be provided on the substrate, such as a laser, a photodiode, a modulator or a thermistor. These components also require electrical connections.
On the first face 30, reception means are also provided for the optical fiber 2.
As illustrated in FIG. 3, these reception means notably take the form of a V-shaped groove 31.
Processes for obtaining V-grooves on a substrate, in particular silicon, are conventional. Reference can be made the book "Microsystems and optoelectromechanics", under the direction of P. Viktorovitch, Hermès-Lavoisier editions - 2003.
Thus, the technique of anisotropic chemical etching of monocrystalline silicon (by KOH or NaOH or NH 4 OH) makes it possible to obtain a V-shaped groove 31, each of whose sides 310, 31 1 has an angle Θ of 50.74 ° with respect to the horizontal. The barrier layer is the <111> plane. The depth of the groove is determined by the width of the etching strip that defines the stop plans.
In the example illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, electrical connection means are also provided on the face 30 of the substrate. These connection means are typically constituted by metal pellets which can be obtained by deposition of a conductive metal, photolithography and etching steps being then performed.
Before the introduction of the optical module 3, an interconnect ball 13 is deposited on the stud 12.
In addition, a layer of coating adhesive 4 is also deposited on the bottom 1 1 of the housing. This adhesive increases the mechanical strength of the device. It also has a thermal function by promoting conduction. Finally, it is chosen to be transparent at the wavelengths used with the device according to the invention, since it is present between the optical fiber and the optical coupling means of the integrated circuit, making it possible to adapt the mode diameters of the optical fiber and waveguide.
In particular, it is possible to choose epoxy glues, acrylate glues or cyanolite glues, which can be thermally crosslinked or by UV illumination.
The glue is deposited after the introduction of the optical module into the housing; it may intervene during or after the positioning of the optical fiber in the groove, according to the techniques used.
The optical module 3 is then introduced into the housing 1, the face 30 comprising the integrated circuit, the groove 31 and the connection means electrical being facing the optical fiber and the pad 12. This is a flip-chip type assembly.
The assembly of the returned module in the housing requires a precision in the alignment of between 5 and 10 μm.
This accuracy is obtained by using reporting or hybridization machines used in microelectronic production. These machines manipulate the chip with a robotic arm above the housing. They simultaneously display all the faces to be aligned, align them and proceed to assembly. These machines are in particular marketed by the DATACON or SUSS companies.
Alignment of the optical module on the housing aligns the optical fiber 2 on the groove 31, to ensure its housing in the groove. Thus, the optical fiber 2 is passively centered thanks to the groove 31.
FIG. 4 illustrates the fiber 2 with its end 20 inserted in the groove 31.
The position z of the optical axis 21 of the optical fiber with respect to the face 30 depends on the width l of the groove as well as the angle Θ and the diameter d of the optical fiber.
Ainsi, la position relative z de l'axe optique 21 de la fibre optique par rapport à la face 30 est obtenue par la relation : Thus, the relative position z of the optical axis 21 of the optical fiber with respect to the face 30 is obtained by the relation:
z = d/(2cos0) -(i/2).tang0. z = d / (2cos0) - (i / 2) .tang0.
In addition, to promote the plating of the optical fiber at the bottom of the groove and therefore a good centering, it is preferable that the fiber is initially slightly inclined upwards relative to the plane of the groove. This inclination is typically of the order of a few degrees and is given by the shape of the opening 10 in the housing.
Moreover, the length L of the V-groove is typically between 3 and 7 mm.
It may be noted that, when the housing comprises several optical fibers, relatively long grooves may make it possible to make up for any initial misalignment between the optical fibers. In addition, the alignment of the substrate on the housing also makes it possible to align the electrical connection means provided on the face 30 of the substrate with the electrical connection means of the housing, here the stud 12.
Of course, in this embodiment, the electrical connection means provided on the substrate and on the housing are designed to be vis-à-vis, when the substrate and the housing are aligned.
In general, when the stud 12 has a diameter greater than 50 μm, the positioning tolerance of the optical module 3 relative to the pad 12 is typically greater than 10 μm.
Thanks to this alignment, the interconnect ball 13 is located between the electrical connection means of the face 30 and the stud 12.
The electrical connection can for example be achieved through the following two techniques.
In a thermocompression technique, gold balls are made on the electrical connection pads of the housing. These are typically balls whose diameter is between 30 and 50 pm which are made by a machine called "bail bonding".
During assembly, the substrate is applied to the connection pads thanks to the arm of the hybridization machine, with a pressure of up to several kilograms per cm 2 .
Simultaneously, the substrate is heated to a temperature between 100 and 200 ° C, to promote the formation of intermediate alloy between the gold beads and the electrical connection pads of the substrate. This ensures good electrical conduction.
Moreover, during the heating of the substrate, the adhesive layer 4 is also crosslinked, in order to guarantee the mechanical strength. The adhesive may be crosslinked thermally or optically, if it is for example a UV light crosslinking adhesive.
The glue can be introduced into the housing when positioning the optical fiber in the groove. The electrical connection can also be achieved by the soft soldering technique on fusible beads, also known as the C4 method (Controlled Collapse Chip Connection in English terminology).
In this case, the balls 13 are made of a fusible alloy such as AgCuSn, In or SnPb. These fusible alloy balls are also made on the electrical connection pads of the substrate.
They can be obtained by screen printing methods or methods comprising a deposition step, photolithography and etching.
During assembly, the substrate 3 is placed on the electrical connection pads of the housing through the motorized arm of the hybridization machine.
The substrate is then heated to a temperature between 200 and 300 ° C to remelt the alloy balls and form intermetallic alloys between the alloy balls formed on both the housing and the substrate.
The adhesive layer 4 is thermally or optically crosslinked after heating the substrate. It can be introduced into the housing after positioning the optical fiber in the groove.
In any case, the electrical connections obtained do not require wires and they are favorable to the good transmission of high frequency signals.
When the optical fiber 2 is centered in the groove 31, it is aligned with the optical coupling means 33 provided on the face 30 of the substrate.
This planar coupling means makes it possible to adapt the mode diameter of the optical fiber 2 to that of the waveguide 32. In fact, the optical fiber 2 has a mode diameter which is typically of the order of 10 μm. while the mode diameter of the waveguide is typically less than 3 μm. This coupling means may in particular be in the form of a structure commonly called "tap" which is placed between the end of the waveguide and the groove.
There are two types of typing: the adiabatic 3D typing and the inverted adiabatic typing.
A 3D adiabatic typing is obtained from a horizontal and vertical expansion of a silicon waveguide. This expansion makes it possible to reach mode diameters of up to 10pm. Thus, insertion losses of less than 1 dB have been demonstrated. However, this type of coupling structure has the disadvantage of requiring rather thick layers of silicon, as well as gray-scale photolithography processes. In addition, the optical coupling face located at the edge of the groove requires finishing polishing and antireflection treatment because the silicon has a high refractive index. This can limit the use of this type in mass production.
An inverted adiabatic tap is obtained by narrowing a silicon waveguide within a second guide of larger size and lower refractive index. In addition, its realization is simpler than that of a 3D tap because it does not require complex photolithography steps, or antireflection treatment on the coupling means because the material may have a low refractive index. This is particularly the case of silica. This typing is therefore perfectly compatible with mass production. In particular, reference may be made to the article "Low-Loss (<1 dB) and Polarization-Insensitive Edge Fiber Couplers Fabricated on 200-mm Silicon-on-Insulator Wafers" by B. Ben Bakir et al. (IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, Vol 22, No. 1 1, June 1, 2010 -. 739, year of publication 2010, pages 739-741).
This article describes a so-called "reverse typing" structure.
The alignment accuracy between the optical axis 21 of the fiber 2 and the coupling means 33 must typically be less than 2 μm in order to obtain a good coupling ratio, that is to say greater than 50%. The presence of the groove 31 provides this level of precision.
It may be noted that the tolerance along the optical axis of the fiber is, for its part, a few tens of microns.
It is therefore understood that, thanks to the receiving means provided on the substrate 3, such as the groove 31, the optical fiber can be precisely aligned with the optical coupling means provided on the substrate. Furthermore, no optical interface is necessary to ensure the optical connection between the optical fiber and the optical means provided on the substrate, in addition to the coupling means for adapting the mode diameters.
This therefore simplifies the implementation of the device and also increases the performance of the optical connection. Indeed, the optical interfaces provided in the state of the art create losses.
Furthermore, when an electrical connection is necessary, it can be performed simultaneously with the optical connection and therefore using the same machine.
Finally, given the dimensions of the various elements, the alignment tolerance of the optical module on the housing is between 5 and 10 μm, whereas with the devices according to the state of the art, the alignment tolerance is higher. weak, of the order of 1 pm. Indeed, the greatest accuracy must be obtained during the alignment of the optical fiber and the coupling means. However, this alignment is mainly achieved through the groove 31 which is provided on the substrate and not on the housing. Under these conditions, the alignment of the substrate on the housing can be achieved with a less important precision. This makes it possible to implement faster and less expensive transfer techniques than those used in the state of the art.
The cover that closes the housing is assembled on the latter when the optical and electrical connections are made.
Reference is now made to FIG. 5 which illustrates an alternative embodiment of the optoelectronic device according to the invention.
According to this variant, the optical fiber or fibers are placed in an optical connector 22.
This connector 22 is inserted, by appropriate means, into the housing 1, the optical fiber 2 always passing through an opening 10 provided in the housing.
It simplifies the manipulation of the optical fiber.
FIG. 6 illustrates another variant embodiment of the device according to the invention.
In this variant, a stop 14 is provided in the bottom 11 of the housing 1. It is positioned so as to face the groove 31 provided in the substrate 3.
When assembling the substrate in the housing, this wedge can contribute to improving the plating of the optical fiber at the bottom of the groove 31.
It should also be noted that the drawings are not to scale. In fact, an optical fiber typically has a diameter of 125 μm, an electrical connection pad has a diameter of between 30 and 100 μm, an interconnect ball has a thickness of between 10 and 30 μm and a substrate measures between 5 and 15 mm side and has a thickness of between 0.2 and 1 mm.
