Abstract

The present invention relates to a system and method for calming traffic at an intersection. The system for calming traffic at an intersection includes: a vehicle detecting unit for calculating the driven conditions of a vehicle being driven toward an intersection; and a control unit for controlling traffic lights if it is determined that pedestrians are in danger on the basis of the driven conditions of the vehicle calculated by the vehicle detecting unit. Thus, since various safety devices appropriate to the situation are actuated by monitoring and analyzing pedestrians and driven vehicles that cross/pass an intersection, pedestrians can actively deal with safety-related incidents at an intersection where traffic accidents involving pedestrians occur frequently, when compared to a typical regulatory suppression technique and physical traffic suppression technique for traffic safety.
