Abstract

The invention relates to a method for controlling an electronically commutated electric motor having several phases in a drive system of a motor vehicle, in particular in a hydraulic actuation system of a friction clutch, and having a rotor comprising an absolute rotor position sensor that monitors the angle of rotation of the rotor and electronics for commutating the electric motor on the basis of recorded data of the angle of rotation of the rotor position sensor. In order to maintain a constant efficiency over the service life of a drive system and to prevent safety-critical operating states, a plausibility check is regularly performed over the service life of the electric motor by setting a specified actual position of the rotor position while the rotor is not driving and comparing said actual position with a testing position currently determined by the rotor position sensor with respect to a specified limit, in that the phases of the electric motor are simultaneously supplied with current over a specified time interval and the arising actual position of the rotor is determined by means of the rotor position sensor and compared with the testing position determined by the rotor position sensor.
